I don't know that there is a set answer or dollar amount for any thank you gift.

If you know what the person likes and you put some thoughtfulness into the gift, then the dollar amount should not be the focus.  The gift has to come from the genuine desire to show your appreciation.  If you personalize the gift, I think it is appreciated more.

Submitted 08/14/12 09:54 PM Thanks Ruth. If something jumps out at me, I use it. Generally I give a Home Depot or Lowe's gift card.

I generally give a Lowe's gift card.  If you sign up as a realtor on their site then you get a 5% discount on their cards and you can also get your clients a 10% off discount coupon.  This is for both buyers and sellers.

Submitted 08/27/12 11:42 AM Thanks. I generally give a $50 Lowes or Home Depot card and my transactions are usually 80 - 150K. I bring over small holiday gifts in December for years to keep in touch, usually between $5-7.50 in value. I just didn't know if I was being cheap. In the early years I only got to keep 32.5% of the commission, of course my buyers see the whole commission on the HUD.

I generally give some token amount (as a percentage of my commission) to show my appreciation for their business.  Usually, it's between $200-500 for a gift card or something special that reflects the personal tastes of my clients.  For larger deals, I usually plan a thank-you event for them and budget $1-3K.  For my investors, I give them deep discounts for property management services in lieu of a gift, which they seem to like much more.
