Welcome to Aiken

City of Aiken   Jane Page

Aiken, South Carolina is rich in history, brimming with hospitality and has all of the joys of a large city with the simple pleasures of a small town.  A walk downtown takes you past quaint shops, delightful restaurants, local art galleries and through any one of our 172 parkways.

Famous for our equine training, Aiken has been home to champions for decades.  Racehorse trainers, carriage drivers, foxhunters, eventers, hunter & jumper riders and polo players at the top of their game choose to live and train in Aiken.  The 2100 acre Hitchcock Woods with over 70 miles of trails is at the center of town and has something for all avid equestrian enthusiasts.

Palmetto Golf Course has a long tradition of offering golf at its purest level.  With superstars like Tiger Woods and Arnold Palmer playing across the river at Augusta; Palmetto is the local course that is very famous among very few.  Aiken plays host to many other golf clubs both public and private.

The Savannah River offers boating and fishing venues and the cities throughout Aiken County attract Shooting Sports, Game Hunting & Archery, Auto & BMX Racing, Soccer& Tennis Tournaments, Gymnastics & Baseball competitions, Pro Bull Riding & Turkey Shoots, Farmer's & Flea Markets, Antique Car Shows and Bike Rallies.  Aiken even has Jousting Tournaments and Civil War reenactments and other thriving Cultural activities.

Businesses are drawn to the area because of The Savannah River Plant and both the University of South Carolina-Aiken and Aiken Technical Collage.  The City has several Business parks and Industrial areas.  The local workforce is diverse and the cost of living lower than the national average.  Our Regional Airport and location along Interstate 20 offer ease of transport and travel.

I welcome you to Aiken and would love to show you my town!
