About Us:

I believe success is judged by far more than your W-2.  It's the reason that I own my own business.  The people you help along the way is what truly differentiates my philosophy.  In addition to helping people in a professional capacity, I am very active in philanthropic work in the community.  Several years ago I was involved in a serious motorcycle accident which broke 10 ribs, my collar bone and put 60 staples in my head.  Did I mention that I am a lifelong biker?  Well I guess that day I got a lemon.  Since that day, I founded a non profit group that trains motorcyclists as emergency medics capable of providing emergency assistance until professional emergency responders arrive.  The program is called the Rescue Riders which you can see at www.rescueriders.org.  To date we have trained hundreds of bikers and recently received grant support to provide training for 350 new Rescue Riders in Illinois & Wisconsin courtesy of the Allstate Foundation and the law firm of Hupy & Abraham.  We have grown nationally and now have volunteers from Alaska to Florida.  Quite a few of our volunteers have provided emergency assistance and in some cases saved lives.  Its a great feeling to help others.

In addition to my volunteer work with the Rescue Riders, I organize and hold fundraisers to help those in need.  In the past three years we have raised over $75,000 for folks who had exhausted assistance from traditional resources.  I may not have the biggest W-2 but feel richer than most.

Allstate Agency Owner Dean Akey Earns Prestigious Community Service Honor from Allstate

2008-05-29 02:10:18 -

- The Allstate Corporation David Steck, (847) 402-5600 At the sixth annual Allstate Leaders Forum in Orlando, Fla., Allstate Insurance Company honored exclusive agency owner Dean Akey of Saint Charles, Ill., with its 2008 Ray Lynch Award for exceptional community service. Akey's unyielding dedication to making significant community contributions singled him out amid a pool of more than 13,000 Allstate agency owners, making him the sole recipient of the Allstate service award in 2008.

The Allstate Foundation provided additional support for Akey's work with a $5,000 grant, which will be entrusted to nonprofit organization Accident Scene Management, where Akey volunteers as the founder and national director of the Rescue Riders program.

Akey founded Rescue Riders, which provides motorcyclists with first aid training and tools so they can help victims on the scene of an accident. He first thought of the idea after being a victim of a serious accident a few years ago while riding. He was haunted by the memory of lying on the side of the road waiting for the ambulance to arrive, surrounded by people willing but unable to help.

Rescue Riders, which is coordinated through nonprofit organization Accident Scene Management, Inc. of Waukesha, Wis., is a volunteer group of bikers who are trained in emergency response and then aligned with local professional emergency response agencies.

"There is a great need for trained volunteer responders not only on the scenes of accidents but also in the event of larger emergencies," said Akey. "Through our partnership with Accident Scene Management, Rescue Riders is educating motorcyclists across the country. Thanks to a grant from The Allstate Foundation, $5,000 will help Rescue Riders prepare more motorcyclists with lifesaving skills."

The Ray Lynch Award is dedicated to the memory of Allstate agency owner Ray Lynch of Fayetteville, N.C. Lynch built a successful agency around a remarkable record of service to his family, church and community. During his 32 years as an Allstate agency owner, Lynch earned many company honors. In 1999, Lynch passed away. Inspired by his example, Allstate created this community service award in his honor.

"Dean Akey demonstrates his strong commitment to his community and to customers," said Chuck Bollinger, vice president, Agency Distribution, Allstate. "Dean truly embodies the spirit of community contributions represented by the Ray Lynch Award and Allstate."

Akey's passion for motorcycles and customer service is taking him on yet another ride with Allstate. He is one of the faces of a new campaign advertising Allstate's motorcycle insurance products, including appearances as one of the national spokespersons in Allstate's new television commercials for motorcycle insurance products.
