CHICAGO TITLE AND TRUST COMPANY
CELEBRATES ITS 160TH YEAR
Mayor Daley Recognizes Accomplishments of Chicagoland Company
Chicago, Ill. - (October 10, 2007) - For the employees of Chicago Title Insurance Company, 2007 isn't just another year. This year, Chicago Title and Trust Co. and its employees are celebrating 160 years of protecting homes and businesses in both the Chicago metropolitan area and across the United States. From its modest beginnings as the vision of a young Chicago law clerk, Chicago Title and Trust Co. has grown to become one of the most successful and respected title insurance companies in the world.
"We are proud and excited to celebrate our 160th anniversary in the City of Chicago," said Randy Quirk, Co-President, Chicago Title Insurance Company's parent company, Fidelity National Financial (NYSE:FNF). "For 160 years, we have been doing our best to protect your homes, your families, and to help you invest in your future. We will strive to continue serving our customers' title needs for many more years to come."
On behalf of the City of Chicago, I would like to recognize and congratulate Chicago Title and Trust Co. for 160 years of service to the residents of Chicago and beyond," said Mayor Richard M. Daley. "As Mayor, I am proud to be able to say that I have a company like Chicago Title and Trust Co. headquartered in our city. Their storied history of protecting our most valuable investments-our homes and Chicago's greatest buildings-is priceless."
The long history of the company includes a rather noteworthy chapter from the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. When many of Cook County's real estate records were consumed by the fire, employees of three quick-thinking abstract firms - Chase Brothers and Company, Shortall and Hoard, and Jones and Sellers - snatched their records from the blaze. Soon their records were all housed together in the untouched western outskirts of the city, providing the real estate records on which to rebuild Chicago. The abstract firms eventually became part of the Chicago Title family of companies
In 1920, the scope of Chicago Title and Trust's business extended beyond Cook County, Illinois where it started in 1847. In the late 1940s, Chicago Title and Trust Co. moved to 111 West Washington Street and continued developing and expanding its extensive statewide organization. In the 1950s, Chicago Title and Trust Co. reached beyond its state borders to increase its business. Over the next 50 years, Chicago Title and Trust Co. acquired several businesses and continued its growth as a prominent Chicago-based business. In 2000, Chicago Title joined the Fidelity National Financial (NYSE:FNF) family of companies in a historic merger, creating the largest title insurer and provider of real-estate related products and services in the world.
"Remaining an industry leader for 160 years is a testament to Chicago Title's unwavering dedication to excellence and devotion to customers," said Quirk. "Much has changed since Chicago Title and Trust Co. founding, but today the company continues to protect our customers' real estate with the same outstanding customer service, untarnished reputation for integrity and outstanding expertise we've offered since 1847."

Your Clients are Our Clients!
Customer Service. It's a very easy word to toss around. It's not easy, however, to provide exceptional, consistent customer service every time. It is my strong belief that we can help Realtors grow their business by providing a high level of service to both the Realtor and their clients. After all, we have the last touch with buyers and sellers, and I promise to make that contact a positive experience, and that reflects directly on the Realtor. My clients love the fact that I begin the referral request process at the closing table. What better way to thank your Realtor for finding your dream home than telling all your friends and family about your wonderful Realtor? It's a question I ask at every closing. Experience the difference at Chicago Title Val Vista/Baseline.
We are also your resource for our Social Media Workshops series! Why sit through another rah-rah lecture about blogging, Facebok, Twitter, etc.? Why not check out Paul Guenther's schedule and sign up? These workshops are 2 hour, hands-on, BYOL (bring your own laptop) sessions designed to get you up and running. We all know about roads and good intentions, and that's why Paul an I have developed these workshops as a way to prevent the inevitable failure to follow through after a seminar. We've been there, done that ouselves. I hope you will take a minute to check out our next series.

What Local Agents Have to Say About Us!
On January 14th, we held our first, all day Social Media Bootcamp for Realtors...
Here's what a few had to say:
Great class. I'm now very interested in blogging and getting up and running on Facebook. Thank you for allowing me to participate. You have a ton of patience.
Eva - United Brokers Group
In one day I learned more about Social Media than I learned in the last year! The light bulb went off that I can use these tools to do a free drip campaign to replace a mail campaign that used to cost me $4800 a month...
Carlie - Keller Williams
This is an awesome boot camp! Take all the classes you can with Bill and Paul. They share so much information you can't go wrong, and all the while you are learning for the future...
Cindy - Century 21
Thank you! This was overwhelming but you definitely have changed my mind about participating in social media.
Kim - United Brokers Group
More comments from a few of our loyal clients:
If you are serious about growing your business and maintaining a high level of professionalism I would highly recommend that you consider Chicago Title as a business partner. In this very turbulent real estate market, why risk losing business (or your reputation) because one of your business partners failed to perform. Now, more than ever, the business alliances your form are vital and that's why I recommend the Chicago Title office in Mesa. Bill Risser and staff do an outstanding job and will get the job done right and in a timely manner. Their office has saved me and my clients many a delay by accommodating early morning, after hour and weekend signings. You have enough to manage in your real estate transaction but one of those items does not have to be title and escrow if you select the Bill Risser Team at Chicago Title in Mesa.

I just wanted to share some thoughts about why I choose to do business with Chicago Title specifically Bill Risser & his staff:
On a personal note they have closed 6 real estate transactions for myself and/or my family with the utmost of professionalism & they are always willing to go the extra mile. Bill and his staff are hands on & willing to help with past or current needs. I recently needed a copy of some of the paper work from my last refinance in 2007. They arranged and provided me the information from archives within 48 hours when I said next week would have been great. Also they are willing to show up early or stay late when needs arise.
On a professional level for my clients, sellers or buyers, they do prompt title researchs and are always available to answer questions & provide details no matter how big or small. Clients always leave their signings feeling good about the transaction & fully understand the paperwork they just signed. I attend all of my in state signings & whenever I have questions or concerns about facts or figures, they're addressed & resolved promptly. All of my closings at this location have been completed smoothly & with great efficiency.
I also utilize there marketing assistance with listing kits, farming & most recently Listing Promoter. Bill & his staff are always willing to make themselves available (on short notice, I might add) when I have questions or need assistance with Chicago Title services like Chicago Agent, Listing Promoter setup, Flex MLS, Zip Forms or utilizing the website.
I believe that my business values & service have grown & will continue to grow thanks to partners like Bill Risser & his staff. They always keep me on my toes & I look forward to the continued growth of our businesses.

Regarding Bill Risser's Social Media Workshops:
This is a very nice post on DeedStreet.com from founder Doug Lazovick. Doug has some kind words to say about our Social Media Workshop Series:
“I’m not a social media guru, I just love social media.” And thus begins one of Bill Risser’s (@BillRisser) social media workshops.
Bill, along with Paul Guenther (@mytitleguypaul), help real estate agents get indoctrinated on various real time networking sites in a series of free workshops they hold throughout the Phoenix valley. Classes include a General Overview as well as separate Twitter, Facebook, Active Rain / Google apps and “Build your Blog” sessions (both Bill and Paul work for Chicago Title in Gilbert).
Now I know what your thinking…everybody and their brother are going around teaching social media classes; and you’re right. But what makes Bill & Paul’s class so valuable and educational is that they are not social media gurus. Their is no hidden agenda in trying to elevate themselves to guru status in order to sell some higher learning (that’s code for expensive) social media classes as many gurus are doing so today (although, if you ever have a title related question, I’m sure they’re more than willing to help).
The laid-back approach of not trying to sell “guru” status sets the right tone for these workshops. Bill and Paul are like kids in a candy shop; they’re just excited to be teaching a subject they love. And their authenticity keeps you entertained and focused at the task at hand throughout the entire two-hour workshops.
Another facet that I think Bill and Paul have down is the structuring of the classes. Instead of cramming every social media website into a 2 hour presentation, they have wisely broken down the classes into separate 2 hour presentations (this excludes the General Overview, which is really a pre-requisite for the separate sessions). Let’s take the Twitter class for example.
First, before attending the workshop, they’ll make sure all attendees have a Twitter account (as well as some other twitter relevant accounts, such as HootSuite). For the actual class, you are required to bring your laptop. Bill and Paul take you through all the nuances of getting started on Twitter (on your own personal computer) and all the necessary supporting applications. When you’ve finished the class, you don’t just have the knowledge of how Twitter works, but you’ve already had a test drive and been given the keys to “Twitter” car. Where you go from there (in Real Time of course) is now up to you.
I can’t tell you how much more valuable this is than the customary social media guru workshop, where over the course of a two-hour session, they speak of the 10 social networks you have to go sign-up for. You take notes, get all pumped up and excited about joining. The next day, you haven’t signed up for a single social networking site, the class is a passing thought and you’ve accomplished nothing.
In short, Bill and Paul are not social media gurus. But ironically, they could teach a social media guru a thing or two about social media. But don’t take my word for it. Attend one of their classes, even if you’re already an expert on these subjects, and see for yourself.
Doug
Here are some of the comments to the above post:
I have attended several of Bill’s classes and have enjoyed them very much. The guy just “get’s it.”
The people that take his classes learn without being “pitched” a bunch of crap.
Great stuff, for sure… - Nick Bastian, Realty Executives
Bill Risser is highly knowledgeable. A very comprehensive presentation. A simplified workshop covering what I thought was too complicated to understand in 2 hours. I definitely plan on attending the entire series of workshops. I highly recommend the courses! I have taken other workshops and Bill cuts to the chase, stays focused, and presents clearly.

Bill,
I just wanted to thank you for the Social Media classes you have provided for my agents and myself on Active Rain and Google. I have heard nothing but great reviews from the agents. We now have agents working in both Active Rain and Google on a regular basis. As rapidly as the technology changes, it's nice to have a source like you and Chicago Title to help us keep up. We are looking forward for the next class. Thanks for all your support,

Just one of the reasons that Bill is awesome is because he is on the operations side of the house — meaning he can actually get work done.
Oh, he is plenty good enough to be a slick sales guy, he just happens to like to get things done and done right.
Which is probably why he is attracted to social media – because quality work is not afraid of everyone “looking under the hood” – which is the end result of social media: transparency. Justin McHood, Academy Mortgage
