Get together in Boston! - 09:41 AM

 Dear Active Rainers,
Ok it is official. We will be living in Boston for the next 6-7 weeks. My husband Lee's radiation treatments at Mass General Hospital start on Wednesday and we will be coming back to Baltimore for the weekends. We are so fortunate to have this special treatment available to us.
So, any Rainers in the area, if you have time I would love to get together.

Coaching Questions - 10:02 AM

Coaching thoughts from another KW coach ask some poignant questions.  I have heard the following question so many times that I have stopped counting:  When should I hire my first ________________? The blank is usually filled by assistant or buyer's agent or listing agent.  How are you using Leverage in your business?  If you have hired talent, what do you have them doing?  What are they being held accountable to?  How are your people, systems and tools working for you?  Leverage can be a valuable asset OR it can be a productivity zapping 80% black hole that can suck the life … (3 comments)

Complainers to bright and beautiful - 10:30 AM

It wastes everyone's time to complain or whine about an issue out of your control.  It doesn't do anyone any good and may only make the person complaining feel worse.  One offer doesn't work move on to the next.
How does the saying go if you don't like something change it.  If you can't change it then change the way you thing about it.  We were given a mind to decide how we want to color the world.  You can choose grey and black or bright and beautiful.

Before Pumpkins - 11:01 AM

Here is a Sunday Trivia question for you since we are in the season of the jack-o-lantern.  Before pumkins what did Irish carve the first Jack-O-Lanterns out of?  It may be late for you to include it in a real estate news letter this year but lots of ideas to add from the other links here for next years letter.  While you are considering your answers check out a few of the other halloween sites for fun and entertainment.  Here was the first one posted and here is the second one for your entertainment.  Did you find the answer?  If you … (7 comments)

Read it, learn it, recognize it and report it. - 03:07 PM
Ok so I’m here to toot some horns today. Not mine, but I do feel compelled to highlight a couple members of ActiveRain and a few off site Blogs. Why? Because I think they have something important to say and we all should be made aware of it. I’m talking about mortgage fraud. I know this subject has been beaten to death but it really is important and will be affecting our business drastically over the next few years. Mortgage Fraud is running rampant through out industry. It is leaving a trail of ruined lives and is affecting market values everywhere. … (38 comments)

Make a positive out of a negative - 10:16 PM

Occasionally there things in our lives or where we live that just aren't considered popular or a good thing.
For instance in New Jersey it is a "put down" when someone asks "what exit?"  The reason this is, is because most people think of New Jersey as a place with nothing but highways running through it.
In a way that is true.  The highways are very convenient for access to New York City, Philly, Atlantic City or any number of commerce centers where people go to access.
For Native New Jersey folks the calling out of the Exit is actually a tribal thing.  In … (5 comments)

Excuse me...your integrity is showing. - 10:58 PM

Fraud is running rampant these days.  This morning there was a blog where one of the members sat in a class where the teacher actually gave tips on "setting up" situations to trick the banks into cutting the prices on properties.
Other posts talk about unsavory mortgage schemes that include a real estate agent, seller, buyer, Non-profit LLC and appraisers.  All these combined set out to do dirty transactions, on purpose.
Is fraud still fraud if it's clearly disclosed on a HUD statement?
EXCUSE me?
I sat at a closing last week where  it became questionable if the refrigerator still worked.  The listing … (3 comments)

Blogging running you off the tracks... - 11:16 PM

 Blogging as a hopeless addiction...
Blogging has become a way of life for many, myself included.
What is it about blogging that appeals to me so?  It's a question I ask again and again.
Each day I consider giving it up at the same time my mind is thinking of my next blog.
I can say NO! to crack, why can't I say NO! to blogging?
For Active Rain blogging I have given up:
Sleep ~ blogging is a 24/7 activityShopping for food ~ discovered deliveryGoing to work ~ blogging is workBathing ~ showering is much fasterExercise ~ my fingers get plenty of exerciseTalking to … (10 comments)

TexasGulfCoastOnline.com - 09:28 AM
AliceDonahue.com is opening branch offices along the entire Texas Gulf Coast and marketing the new offices online through her new site http://www.texasgulfcoastonline.com/
One of the biggest challenges for us was joining all the MLSs along the coast and interfacing the different technologies so that we could provide access to properties for sale along the coast to our clients through a common user interface.
We anticipate about 10 Million hits per year on the new site. We currently receive over 1.5 milllion hits per year just on our South Padre Island area site. The Texas Gulf Coast area gets a lot of traffic from … (0 comments)

Seahawk Sunday - 02:39 PM
Well it is defininetly that day of the week again and I could hardly keep my cool. The Seattle Seahawks are taking to Quest Field to battle the Minnesota Vikings. The Hawks are 4-1 and leading the NFC West with a over-time win against the St Louis Rams.
This is the first home game is almost a full month so all the fans are going to be extra hungry and extra loud. Any Seattleites our there want to share a comment how loud the stadium is? Like, approx where you live (please don't leave an address), how loud the stadium is and what … (2 comments)

Active Rain Pushes More Updates - 06:51 PM
The latest upgrade I have seen is the MyHome section of a users profile. It is nice to see the break down of blog posts, comments (made and recieved) and how many G-stars I have recieved. I like it.
Also there are major updates when it comes to the state homepage, example WA Profile Page. If you noticed on the left hand side there are links to Information, News & Events, Market Reports and Blogged Listings. These categories are a result of an expanded categories found at the bottom bottom of a post before it published. these updgrades should help bloggers target their … (9 comments)

Wikipedia: BarnettAssociates.net - 10:18 PM
Tonight I was looking through Barnett Associates Real Estate's website stats and Google rankings (BarnettAssociates.net is now #2 on Google for Marysville WA Real Estate) and I encountered something very interesting.
Looking through the stats there was a referring URL from WhoIs.com regarding www.BarnettAssociates.net. The WhoIs link showed a very intriguing result under the category About Us. The description showed a Wiki article on our company. This may seem like a little matter but I assure you it isn't.
Wikipedia has quickly grown to become the biggest user contributed encyclopedia on the internet. Based in Web 2.0 technology it is beneficial for any … (12 comments)

"Free Stuff" makes your website both 'sticky' & desirable - 10:59 AM
Getting potential buyers & sellers TO your website is one leg of a 3 legged stool.
There are lots of different ways to get them there; pay per click, search engine optimization, URL in print ads, sign riders, etc.,etc.
Once you get them there the other 2 legs are; keep them there & make them want to return, AND give them reasons to contact you to do business.
I find that offers of "Free Stuff" are great tools to induce potential buyers and seller to contact me once they get to my website.
Some of my free stuff offers that work well are:

Off-Roading In The Pine Barrens of New Jersey - 12:38 PM
Wharton State Forest, part of the Pine Barrens, is located largely in Burlington County in South Jersey. The park is the largest single tract of land within the New Jersey State Park System. It is also the site of Batsto Village, a former bog iron and glassmaking industrial center from 1766 to 1867, that attempts to reflect some of the late 19th atmosphere. It has great trails for hiking and off-roading.  It's one of the nationally recognized stops for the annual Jeep Jamboree 4x4 off-roading adventure trips.Below are local resources that Jeep Jamboree has identified for those doing off-roading in the Pine Barrens.  Please … (1 comments)

Cranberries Are Celebrated In The New Jersey Pinelands - 02:27 PM
Chatsworth (Woodland Township) considers itself part of the "heart" of the pinelands. It is located among the beautiful Pine Barrens of New Jersey, a region stretching from Brendan T. Byrne (formerly called Lebanon) State Forest to the Forked River Mountains area and out to Long Beach Island, Barnegat and Tuckerton along the shore. It is an area known for it's cranberry bogs which supply well-known processors and distributors of cranberry products such as Ocean Spray.  Cranberries are harvested in October and it is a fascinating and unique way of harvesting.  If you are driving in the area during that time you will … (0 comments)

The Gifts we give ourselves our Friends - 02:01 PM
Good friends enrich our lives in so many ways. Through a magical combination of similarities and differences, friends offer us the opportunity to know ourselves as we are and help us grow into who we want to be. Our similarities attract us to each other, comforting us with familiarity when we see ourselves in them. When we are drawn to those we admire, the same recognition is at work, unconsciously acknowledging that these people possess qualities that we ourselves possess. By acting as mirrors, friends help us define who we are by reflecting our selves back to us. Friends also help … (1 comments)

What if your purpose in life? - 02:13 PM
I was speaking with my husband about what is the purpose of life. What are we living for, what is it that makes life worth living. Here is what he sent me in an email. I think I want to come up with a life purpose of my own, but need to think about it. I post this here for you to think about. What is the purpose of your life.
My husband’s answer is: Mine is yet to come.
LIFE PURPOSE - To change peoples lives for the better. Making people  more healthy, more alive, and more successful. To lovingly interact with … (5 comments)

Summit County Colorado ski resorts are predicting there biggest season ever (not super shocking, they do every year) but this year they just may do it.  Last year was banner as the state saw more than 12 million skier visits and this pre-season reservations are already at record levels.  Here are some reasons why:
