Back in 1972, Jackie Gleason started up The Inverrary Classic at The Inverrary Golf Club in Lauderhill, Florida. Through the years it has been held at several different courses in south Florida- always in early March. Sponsors have also changed: American Motors had it in 1981 but it has been Honda's ever since and should be for at least the next five years. This year it will be held at PGA National Golf Club's Championship Course. The Tournament will start off at 7 AM March 1st on this par 70, 7048 yard course - the top course of the 5

Fire & Ice - 10:46 PM
It's been an wild start to 2007 for Dizmang Properties! First, we had one of our rental homes (out of 140+ single family rentals homes we manage) burn down. The fire was caused by careless smoking on behalf of the Tenants. In addition to that the Tenants had dismantled and removed all of the smoke detectors in the house. Yeah, I already know what you're thinking.... Then 8 days later, the Ozarks is hit by 3 major ice storms knocking out power for almost 90% of the city and causing some major damages to homes with downed tree limbs and power lines. I

Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill - 10:57 PM
It is only 55 days until the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by MasterCard (formerly known as the Bay Hill Invitational present by MasterCard) will tee off. This week long event is set to begin on Monday, March 12 and carry through to the 18th. (Yes, it is the new logo for the tournament) There is a great history surrounding this event that date back to 1966, when the Florida Citrus Open was help a Rio Pinar Country Club in Orlando, FL. It was not until Palmer took up residence at Bay Hill that the tournament moved to is current course. Over the years, the course

Sticky Situation - 05:11 PM
I love the classified ads. Calling on FSBO's can be a great way to capture hot leads. When I see an ad like this I automatically think, "there's a divorce on the way". I've listed a few homes when divorce was the leading motivator. As a Realtor, I'm called upon to do a lot more in the way of counseling in divorce situations. It's not easy and I try my best to stay as neutral as possible. I'm amazed at how people open up to me and sometimes, they just unload on me. If I have the time, I try

10 Real Estate and Mortgage Predictions for 2007 - 10:42 AM
This is the last in a short series of posts inspired by my trip to Manhattan for the Inman REConnect Conference…. What did I take away from it all? Ill format my answers in the form of some 2007 predictions (in no particular order): Active Rain and other community based ‘Blogsites’ are going to be Big. Localized real estate content using the blogging platform will create new top producers and entrench the current crop. *That was a tough one* Web 2.0 technologies, specifically the Mash-up, will accelerate the paradigm shift influencing the way real estate is bought sold and financed. Planning Over Instinct - 03:38 PM
I was talking to a fellow athlete this morning after our workouts. She commented on how different my training has been lately. I told her I was in a building phase right now so I could endure more intensity later. She said she never follows a detailed plan because it would take a lot of the fun out of it. She told me she listens to her body and makes workout decisions based on her "gut". Later I got to thinking about this conversation and how universal her message. I have met a great many people in the Real Estate business

Email etiquette..do you really Laugh out loud when you LOL? - 03:25 PM
Email..so important, yet so abused! I LOVE email, and think it is possibly one of the best "inventions" ever! Email has revolutionized our culture to both the good and the bad. But if you are going to use it, I say, let's do it in a professional manner when using it for business matters. When I was in the corporate world, I used to have to counsel people all the time, because they got in trouble using it improperly. I have even fired someone because of a nasty email, in which he must have had a death wish. Let's face it...email is the written word. It is proof of

Being Prepared for Disaster - 11:55 AM
A large portion of the United States was recently hit with major snow and ice storms. It doesn't take much ice on trees or power lines to shut off electricity for miles around. Here in Nebraska, some rural areas were without power for several days. A little preparation can make storms like these seem much less severe. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security recommends that Americans take a few minutes to prepare for possible disasters. Each area of the country is susceptible to certain natural disasters, like hurricanes, floods or tornadoes which can delay emergency response and damage personal property. The department of homeland security suggests

One Two Punch or Knock out? - 10:38 PM
The one two punch, huddle or knock out? Which is a Real Estate deal which makes it back to the table for a second round. Often I wonder are we psychologists, or Realtors? As there is a little of both in all of us. Understanding Human Nature. Personality types, Motivation, and negotiating skills. To understand yourself and your client then work harmoniously in the ring together. Then add to the mix, the coach at ringside, the cooperating side of a transaction, and more personality types. There are there Alfa dogs (leaders) the drones (the followers) The Type A personalities, Type D personalities and the mix of personality

FSBO’s in a Buyers Market - 08:36 AM
Another question about for sale by owners or FSBO’s this week. This is an oldie, but a goody. The buyer wanted to know if they could get a better price for the house if they didn’t use an agent as instructed by the seller of the home. Yeah right, here’s a perfect example of the blind leading the blind. As if the process of buying a home for the first or second time buyer isn’t stressful enough. Let’s trust the lack of real estate knowledge the home owner has to complete the transaction. Even before that, do you as the buyer

Tourists prefers Vacation homes (short term rentals) over hotels - 09:16 PM
Thousands of Single Family Residence, townhomes and condos clustered in newly built sub divisions around Walt Disney World, Orlando & Kissimme, are in fact vacation homes, holiday condos for short term rentals. They cater to economy minded group travelers that are able to save hundreds of dollars in hotel bills by renting the entire home, includes a pool and privacy, instead of a single room in the hotel, that cost more. There are about 700 (seven hundred...) property management companies, that will handle in average, about 100 houses each. Although the renters pay resort taxes, there is no research yet of the effect

Who Knew? - 01:28 PM
It's amazing what real estate legal research reveals. For example, while researching liens, I came across this Washington statute: Every person who arrests, attaches, detains, or claims to detain any human remains for any debt or demand, or upon any pretended lien or charge, is guilty of a gross misdemeanor. Who knew?
