Chicagoland...More Blogging Help, Meet Craig Schiller. - 07:11 PM
Chicago area Coldwell Banker Agents.  This Wednesday October 3, the company is putting on an awesome expo. Craig Schiller will be there, and so will I, representing ActiveRain.  From what I can see there's going to be a lot to learn there.  The line-up looks great.  If you don’t go to this I think you’re doing yourself a disservice.  How many homes are you really going to show this Wednesday anyways? .Registration is only 69$.  If you take a look at the speakers and the break out sessions alone you’ll see there’s tremendous value in this.  They say retail value 150$ … (16 comments)

What AR means to it's members - 03:32 AM
I read a comment left by Missy Caulk yesterday that has had a profound impact on me.
"I kept having dreams ( seriously ) about AR selling to Homegain. Now anything with r dot com, et all.....is a nightmare !"
AR has always been significant and deeply meaningful to me, as it is the culmination of much of my life's work (and likewise for Matt). I knew (and have greatly hoped) people like AR, I just didn't grasp until more recently how significant it is to them.

Perfect Time for Buying a Tucson Vacation Home - 08:57 PM

With all the doom and gloom that's being broadcast everywhere by the media, it's nice to hear that some areas of real estate are stronger then ever. According to an article in the September issue of Today's Buyer' s Rep, it seems that many people are taking advantage of lower home prices to make their dream of owning a vacation home come true. A study done by the National Association of REALTORS found that although sales of investment properties and single family homes are down right now, vacation and second homes sales have been slowly rising in record numbers. Momma, we all grew up to be cowboys.... - 09:52 AM
Oh, I know your dream was for us to be "Doctors and Lawyers" and such. For whatever reason, we became cowboys. No, we did not ultimately choose that 9 to 5 existence. While most of the people we take care of are eeking out a living Monday through Friday, we opted for the on call, possibly 24/7 lifestyle. It is true that we don't have that guaranteed paycheck, but we don't have that "boss" looking over our shoulder either.
There is no other group, in America, as large as ours, operating on the same playing field. We compete with one another one day … (24 comments)

It really is about the basics....... - 03:12 PM
I thought I was spent. I wrote my "momma, we grew up to be cowboys" blog and settled into a reading frenzy. I discovered the flip side of ego gratification that comes with a featured post recently and I am attempting to visit, read and comment where applicable on all the people that read mine. Who knew????
While perusing blogs, I came across a fine little thing posted by Aaron that referred to a lesson he learned back in Pop Warner football. His focus was on 100% effort. He mentioned that each year his team would improve. He acknowledged the various basic skills … (5 comments)

North Texas Tollways Increase Effective Oct 1 - 02:54 PM
The Tollways in North Texas have instated an increase effective today, October 1.  This includes the North Dallas Tollway and the George Bush Turnpike.  I was astonished yesterday when I went into Frisco on the new stretch that opened on Friday and it was $1.30 for the Eldorado exit... WHAT??!!  $1.30!!  That's crazy!
To go see my client in Frisco yesterday, it cots me $0.50 to get onto the Bush.  $1.00 is charged at the Coit overpass.  When I get onto the Dallas North Tollway, it's $1.00 at Parker.  Then it was $1.30 to exit at Eldorado.  That's $3.80.  That's $7.20 round trip.  … (2 comments)

Texas Vs OU- The Red River Rivalry at the Cottonbowl - 03:05 PM

Countdown to the Red River Rivalry.  The Texas Longhorns and the Oklahoma Sooners are at the Cottonbowl during the State Fair of Texas at 2:30pm on this Saturday, October 6, 2007.
Both teams are entering this game with losses from this past weekend.  They'll both have some frustrations to vent out.
Any thoughts on who is going to win this one?  I'm not sure I want to be home during the game since my Husband is still livid from the loss on Friday.
OU Fans, don't hesitate to state your opinion, however, for both Texas and OU fans, please keep it clean, and no attacking people and/or their … (9 comments)

BabyHarris Update- Week 32 - 03:14 PM
I had another doctor's appointment this morning as I'm now at an every two weeks schedule.  This is week 32.  My blood pressure has increased a little, up to 100/60.  It's still normal, but higher than what I have been at.
I broke the scale, but that's ok because I'm sure they have another in the back... the number is getting very scary, but don't feel so bad when people keep telling me I look like "all baby", though I can definitely feel it all over!!
The heartrate has dropped, but I think it's because she decided to take a nap right before … (11 comments)

Profiling - 02:51 AM
I was sad to learn that Mandy Patinkin was leaving one of my favorite shows, Criminal Minds. However, he is merely showing his integrity for what he feels is right.  I do like shows about profiling and such, most of the books I read are in the same vein, although I do read quite a bit in other genres as well. I was going through all of my profiles that I keep on different networks, trying to figure out which ones to keep and which to just let wander off into the wiles of cyberspace. I end up spending too much time … (2 comments)

Another one bites the dust - 03:04 PM
Thought I would put up another cancellation notice. This year there has been a few more casualties among Las Vegas lofts and condos. Although that didn't stop other developers from announcing new projects. The biggie was the cancellation of the Sandhurst. It was announced years ago, and last year the Mayor Oscar Goodman specifically asked the developer when the project would be completed at a town meeting.  The other surprise was the cancellation of the Boulders condo conversion.  They simply stopped work and went back to renting out the apartments.  I guess some lucky tenants received some upgrades. Moreover, both projects had … (1 comments)

Mother Gets A Life - 09:46 AM
Way back in June (!!) Brian Brady made this comment on one of my posts:
"Be careful with that "Rain Kids" moniker. They might start calling you "Da Blogmother." "
I thought it was kind of clever, so I registered the domain name: http://www.dablogmother.com and set up a blog on Typepad.
Other than making a banner, I pretty much just ignored Mother.
Now with all the talk about who owns blog content, I figured just for insurance and safe-keeping, I'd copy my Photography and Photoshop and other tutorials over to Mother.  Not local news or real estate stuff.  Just the tutorial stuff.
Good grief, did I really … (7 comments)

Why Realtors Should BLOG - 12:51 PM

On Friday I attended BLOGORLANDO and inspired I learned so much. One important thing I learned was that my instincts about Blogging and Real Estate are right on track.   This is a powerful tool for Realtors.
As I listened to Shel Israel (Naked Conversations), Tom Biro, Jake McKee, Chris Heuer and the many others; my head was spinning how to implement Social Media in our Real Estate business.                                                                                                                                              Read more »
