What Part Do Individual Markets Need to Play In Our National Mortgage Crisis? - 04:15 PM
There are two thought provoking posts on the board today getting my brain in a swirl. The first one was on the issue of California Sub Prime Relief by Lenn Harley. This post is replete with the relief issue as proposed by the California Governor, and the general question of how involved should The Government be in these relief efforts (Gena Reide). Lenn asks important questions and some of them said, is the California Market pertinent to her Maryland market?
I say, how intertwined are all of our markets based on the severity of the issues involved?  And I ask that question hoping … (19 comments)

"Politically Correct" or JPR ( just plain ridiculous) Members Only - 06:37 PM
Did you hear about the Boy Scout troop that set up donation boxes at local Cambridge, Massachusetts polling places?  They thought this would be a great way to show their support for the troops and to raise money to send care packages to them.
Apparently the powers that be in Cambridge, did not agree. They deemed the Boy Scout philanthropic and patriotic gesture too political in nature and poo- pooed the whole effort as having a pro-war bent.
A disggruntled resident put in a complaint to the election commission workers about the Scouts implied "pro-war" message.

Olana another Hudson Valley Historic Gem - 09:23 AM
Yesterday I wanted to take a walk so my husband and son accompanied me to the grounds at Olana.  This is one of the most beautiful properties in the area sited high above the Hudson River.  With the leaves off the trees I had an awesome view not just of the Hudson River but also of the Rip Van Winkle Bridge which connects the Greeport area to the Catskills.
What is Olana? It was once the home of Frederic Church of the Hudson River School of landscape painting.  And what a place to paint from; you couldn't  have asked for more spectacular views.  … (15 comments)

Are You Going To Wear That!! - 07:06 AM

A week or so ago  there was a post on Active Rain asking when it was appropriate to wear shorts while practicing Real Estate. I have thought about it since then, and still don't seem to agree that shorts represent a professional image that we should strive to maintain.
I responded in kind to the post, and also made reference to the women who show up for Real Estate business looking like they are on the way to a dance club, or after dinner party. I feel the same about the men who show up in shorts and t-shirts like they just got off a … (28 comments)

What Are Your Three Most Important Marketing Tools? - 04:29 PM
A little over a year ago, I posted an article about my favorite and most effective marketing tools.  As I review this year and look forward to the new year, I wondered if I should be considering any "new" ideas.  I didn't get a very good response at that time, and thought to  try again.  In reviewing my original list, my opinions haven't really changed as to what works for me.  What do you all consider your most important and effective marketing tools?  Do you have any "holiday" promotions that you are most fond of?Note:  The feature picture is a sculpure … (13 comments)

The Woodstock Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval of two rezonings, tabled one and recommended keeping the existing zoning on one project.Planners heard Oostanaula Group LLC's request to rezone 11.19 acres on Laurelwood Drive from Medium Density Residential under the city's downtown master plan to Senior Living-C. The property is located north of Ga. 92 and east of Main Street near the Laurelwood Apartments. The developer is planning an active adult development. The city staff told the commission that the city should not limit its market in such a drab real estate market, which rezoning the property to SL-C would do. Book I added to my Listing Presentation Success - 01:56 PM
I recently wrote about a book I have added to my listing presentations.  Idiots Guide  Staging Your Home To Sell, for clients who could not really afford to hire a professional Stager.  Anyway, my first client to receive the book  her home was not in the best area, there are mobile homes all around. Also her home was a little cluttered and I was concerned how well this home would show.  Anyway, to make a long story short my client really was serious about wanting her home sold quickly for top dollar.  We listed it on the high end (I was concerned … (12 comments)

Foreclosure Prevalent In Certain Areas Of Las Vegas - 09:14 PM
According to state statistics, the rate of foreclosure in the state has tripled since this time last year. In an effort to help you navigate the real estate market,  even if you are in no danger of losing a house.
"They were marginal buyers -- they got shoe-horned in," real estate analyst Steve Bottfeld said. "You're going to find there is not integration of retail and residential in those areas, and people found it more and more difficult to live there."
Bottfeld said that homeowners who live in half-empty neighborhoods should be patient.
"This market will turn positive probably within six months, … (1 comments)
