Miss Grace In Cambodia - 06:28 AM
If you were around Active Rain back in December of 2006, you might remember that I wrote a short post telling how one of our employees, Grace Ortiz, was leaving for Cambodia, to serve as a missionary:  Godspeed, Grace
Several members mentioned that they would love to see photos of Cambodia.  I really wanted to see photos, too.  But Grace did not have an internet connection where she was staying, and she said connection at the local internet cafe was p.a.i.n.f.u.l.l.y s.l.o.w.
Anyway, Grace is back in the States for a couple weeks to visit her family, so we finally have some photos … (5 comments)

My Vacation To Key West & Miami Is Over, Now Back To Reality.... - 08:31 AM
I had family from Michigan come down for Christmas and we decided to drive down to Key West & Miami since none of us had been there.  We had *so much fun*.
We saw some very interesting folks there....LOL....You could just sit for hours and people watch and be entertained.  There was a guy riding a bike down the street with a *large* iguana on the back of it....not in a cage!  A guy walking down the beach with a Macaw bird sitting on his shoulder.
On Duval Street in Key West, there were lots of "interesting folks" there too.  Duval Street seemed to be the … (0 comments)

My Unique Active Rain Story for 2007. . . - 01:31 PM
The other day I was contacted by Jennifer Fivelsdal regarding a story I might like to share that was associated with being a member of Active Rain.  At first the question was difficult for me and then I remembered!
What I would like to share is the thankfulness I feel for every-ones support when they heard about my brain tumor and surgery.  (See Bob's post Just a note to ask for prayer, my Cyndi needs your help... for the full story.)  I truly appreciated the calls, the cards, the prayers and the generosity of one person to donate money to help us through.  It's been a challenging few months … (11 comments)

Austin Architect AD Stenger - 06:27 PM
Though AD Stenger wasn’t as prolific as Joseph Eichler, or as well known as Frank Lloyd Wright, he built some of Austin’s most unique homes that are now considered mid-century modern.
Arthur Dallas Stenger first began building homes in the 1940s in Austin, mostly on Arthur Lane in the Barton Hills area, which was named after his father (the first Arthur Dallas Stenger), who was also an architect. Though Stenger attended architecture school at the University of Texas after returning home from World War II, he never graduated. He did get his architecture license as an undergraduate, and began building … (1 comments)

Ready, Set, GO! Business Planning 101 - 10:16 PM

Ready, Set, GO! Business Planning 101by Jaclyn Erwin, ABR, RealtorCharlotte NC Real Estate
Friends, we are finally in the last hours of the 2007 Year! For some, this year proved to be very challenging---filled with dramatic changes within the market as well as unexpected decreases in not only clients but businesses too. Many of us witnessed the closing of doors to many mortgage companies and investment firms. We've bid farewell to colleagues who we believed had potential, but lacked the faith and endurance. In the end, those of us that prevailed, remained.
Despite the transformations, we overcame the barriers that made it extremely tough … (3 comments)

December 31, 2007 Listings update - 05:45 PM
First of all I would like to wish everyone a HAPPY NEW YEAR!
The Palos Verdes Peninsula only has a total of 148 single family home listings at the present time, of those, there are only 84 in Rancho Palos Verdes. Only 26 0f those listinga are under $1 Million. So, as you can imagine, the inventory is quite managable and in some cases it is still hard to find the right property for your qualified buyers. I am currently working with four different buyers and at this point I am at a standoff until more listings come on the market.
I just … (1 comments)

New Jersey's Clean Energy Program - 03:29 AM
Property owners, whether residential, municipal, commercial or industrial, need to keep aware of programs that are available through the state to provide incentives, including monetary, to promote energy efficiency and use of renewable resources.  It can yield direct benefits to their pocketbook. If you have lived in the Philadelphia Metropolitan area (or Delaware Valley region) for any length of time, you know that every New Year's Day, the City of Philadelphia is host to the Philadelphia Mummers New Year's Day Parade, celebrating it's 102nd year. This tradition involving Mummers is unique to the area.   I know of nothing like it anywhere else.   It is considered by some to be the most authentic folk festival in the United States. Their sight and sound are distinctive.  Adults in elaborate customes march and strut through Philadelphia streets, many while playing instruments, to entertain us and welcome in the new year. If you don't know … (5 comments)

Freshly Fallen Snow - Nature's Beauty in Portsmouth NH! - 08:47 AM
To me, one of the beauties of Mother Nature is looking out on freshly fallen snow.  And if the sun's shining right after a snowfall, even more beautiful!
There's something so magical about freshly fallen snow - the big flaky soft kind of snow.  It's quiet and serene, all peaceful and perfect.  Some of the beauty can be seen and touched, some can only be felt, and pictures never ever capture any of that the way you see it and feel it in person.
I was out shoveling my back walkway this morning, and these words kept running through my head, "a freshly … (33 comments)

Michigan Real Estate Reflections on 2007 - 08:11 PM
As the old year passes and we prepare to cross the threshold of another, I've been reflecting on many changes in the past year.
Since I was licensed in 2001 and Michigan didn't experience the post-9/11 boom of the rest of the country, I've never experienced a 'hot' Michigan market. Through the years, I've been told that real estate is cyclical and that what goes up must come down.
But even those who have weathered the many cycles over the past 30+ years haven't seen a market quite like this past year. The reasons are well documented, and so is the … (2 comments)

Being Quoted ... - 07:54 PM
Public Relations is often more valuable than advertising, and certainly less expensive - but it takes work to become a resource - you can't just throw money at it. People block out ads in newspapers and magazines - and yes, even on web pages - UNLESS they are looking for what's advertised - then they care.
Most readers also ignore Letters to the Editor. When recently, much to my surprise, the St Pete Times published my letter concerning their skewing of statistics, I never got a comment from anyone I knew.
Yet yesterday an article on green building started out by quoting me, … (17 comments)
