He can do it all, but can he!! - 01:20 PM

Todays challenge......How do you make headway with a one man band.
One of my calls today was everything all rolled up in one. He was a mortgage broker, Real Estate Broker, and General Contractor. The report I was needing to do was to establish the neighborhood value, and do a real comp on the home in its present condition. Since the garage door was open, and lights were on, I decided to knock to explain why I was there, and btw, what are you doing here. The home was supposed to be vacant.
So this very nice guy comes out, and is willing … (9 comments)

Wenatchee: PUD Approves 17 Year Power Contract With ALCOA - 11:46 PM
Today was an important day for the Wenatchee Valley economy.  The PUD commissioner's approval of a new 17 year power contract with the local ALCOA production facility assures the continuation of aluminum production here for a long time.  In addition to maintaining the 390 existing jobs, it should also generate about 60 new good paying jobs at the production facility.  AND, the trickle down economics indicate another 1.7 jobs will be created for every new job at ALCOA.  All of this appears to be great economic news... just adding to the strong and diverse economy we already enjoy.  The mighty Columbia … (2 comments)

NAR ASKS FOR HELP - 11:41 AM
This morning I recieved an email from the National Association of Realtors - Realtor Action Center.  They want our help on two items.
FHA Reform S.2338
Ask your Senator to support FHA reform legislation this year.  This is not the cure all, but it does help.  FHA is one of the few departments of the government that makes money.  By passisng the FHA reform bill, we are not putting anymore risk on the FHA than they already take on.  All we are asking for are higher loan amounts to help more borrowers.  Yes we have Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac, but FHA … (0 comments)

Extra Extra -- ACTIVE RAIN makes East Coast Newspaper !!!!!! - 11:26 AM

How important is blogging?  It seems to be  sweeping quickly and if you aren't with it now, it could take years to play catch up.

I received an e-mail from Krista Fuchs on Sunday telling me that my picture was in the Philadelphia Inquirer. The first thing that came to my mind was, wow, how awesome. Then after about 30 minutes, I realized that there couldn't be much said about me, because nobody called me to interview me. (More on that later)
So what is all the hype?  That more and more people are becoming familiar with blogging. The article goes on … (70 comments)

Bank profits hit 4-year low as loans sour - 08:44 AM
Third-quarter profits at federally insured banks and thrifts plunged to a four-year low as large institutions set aside billions to cover losses from bad mortgages, data released Wednesday show. The quarterly banking industry statistics, released by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., highlighted a dramatic third-quarter deterioration as the slumping housing and mortgage markets hurt banks' results.
Profits at the 8,560 FDIC-insured institutions dropped $9.4 billion, or 24.7 percent, to $28.7 billion, hampered by soaring loan defaults and loss provisions, the FDIC said.
While declining profits were seen in about half of the institutions, the FDIC said the largest share of the declines were … (4 comments)

Daily Quote - Scripting Part 1 - 06:57 AM
"Have something to say, and say it as clearly as you can. That is the only secret of style."Matthew Arnold (1822-1888)English poet
You go to a listing appointment or you have someone cal you on the phone for rates, what do you say?  Are you prepared?  Or, do you hem and haw around looking for them to lead the conversation with questions.  A few years ago, I learned a powerful tool of scripting.
I drive my wife nuts sometimes that I will have an argument with myself in preparation of what someone may say to me.  I have an argument or an … (2 comments)

Daily Quote - Scripting Part 2 - 08:36 AM
"Have something to say, and say it as clearly as you can. That is the only secret of style."Matthew Arnold (1822-1888)English poet
Are you scripting?
Part #2 to scripting is practice; practice makes perfect - no, it does not perfect practice makes perfect.
When Michael Jordan played for the World Champion Chicago Bulls, he would practice harder than he ever played.  I remember a story about him that was told me by a local radio host in Chicago.  One the day the centers were down on the other end of the court practicing they were doing lay-ups or power-ups with heavy balls.  They … (1 comments)

10 Lessons From My Personal Failure Lesson
Daring to do the unexpected can cause some people to curl up in a ball and never leave the house, but if you look at risk as an opportunity for greater things there are no limitations.  I had a friends dad tell me once, is the worst thing that can happen to you is you can go broke.  They cannot come and take your family away from you.  Sure, your "friends" may abandon you, but they were not good friends.
Here are some lessons
#1: The greater the risk, the greater the potential for failure and … (0 comments)

Rich Dad Poor Dad: a new blog series - 06:34 AM

I'm starting a new series at The Industry Report. It will be similar to that of a Book Club in that I'll be reviewing chapters in a series of posts and hi-lighting relevant/important financial concepts. If you've read the book, I encourage you to follow along in the series and contribute your insights. And if you haven't read the book, maybe following along might serve you well also.
Either way, it's all about building sustainable financial futures and living in the home of your dreams. So read on and participate.

FSBO's - 11:01 PM
For Sale By Owners
From time to time there are people who feel the urge to sell their own home, not only here in Las Vegas but just about everywhere. As a realtor, I understand that their real desire and objective is to sell their home quickly and for the most money possible. Maybe their  relationship with their first or last agent soured.
For whatever reason, most FSBO's (for sale by owners) seem to think that they simply can just stick a for sale sign in the ground and that will get the property sold. In reality, don't you wish it were that easy?
Without any real actual marketing, no … (2 comments)

A Step by Step Plan on How to Run (Survive in) a Mortgage Business in 2008 - 10:42 AM
At least 5 times per week I get asked how I would run a mortgage business in todays market, or something to that effect…there’s a million ways to ask the same question. So, in the spirit of why I started blogging (because I really do not like repeating myself) and in Twitter like fashion, Ill start running my fingers against the keyboard and impress my thoughts accordingly…
This will be a few part series on how I think a mortgage business (brokerage et. al) should be (re) run in todays market, going forward. I’m shooting from the hip here, in rapid … (11 comments)

Groove Your Way to Productivity and Javascript on Juice - 10:44 AM
While I may not be a programmer, I am a tech geek at heart. Technology has always been a gateway for me to reduce laborious tasks and increase communication efficiencies…in other words it helps alleviate my procrastination habits and other nefarious personal productivity holes.
Although Groove.net and Extjs.com are two vastly different applications, they both represent progressive advances in communication abilities and end-user experiences, using the web as a vehicle.
‘Work together and share information with team members — anywhere, anytime, with anyone.’ Groove.net is a Peer-to-Peer (P2P) collaboration software application that evolved out of Lotus Notes. I started using Groove … (0 comments)

More Steps to Running and Surviving in the Mortgage Business in 2008 - 01:25 PM
People seem to take my thoughts or suggestions as if they could exist in a vacuum, which they most certainly cannot. As you read on it should become more apparent that these ‘Twitter-esque’ suggestions are about general philosophies and solid business practices, not an end all be all ‘if you don’t implement everything I write about you’re DOOMED’, as some people seem to try and digest and regurgitate it as. Very few things in life are all or nothing, so stop being so rigid and allow your personal context to open a bit. I do know one thing for sure though: … (5 comments)
