Real Estate Values and public transportation, New Orleans Street Cars - 07:56 PM
Having public transportation does have an effect of values of real estate. In New Orleans the street cars are still a fixture in a lot of neighborhoods. Many think we are backward, but this may be a great thing in the future. Having not to drive to work is a great appeal to the current generation who value their time more than the Baby Boomers of which I am one. We all wanted to drive to work, build interstates, spend money on gas, and live where we could get a bigger and better home. The trends start out slowly and then … (6 comments)

Here is one for Activerain - 02:57 PM
Today, I am sitting here going through some work when I get a call from a potential listing.  I ask the usual qualifying questions and when I get to "Where did you hear about us?" I got an unusual answer.  The possible listing says that she was looking for a real estate agent in her city and arrived at a site that showed us as "Featured Agents" with Points.
I have actually read on this site of those who received leads from AR, and now I can say that we are members of this club.  For those who feel that AR is … (5 comments)

Recommencing A Single Family Investment - 04:12 PM
JaneAnne Narrin posted a very though provoking blog titled Insights and Appreciation Rates Asking for opinions on which of two possible single family investments you might buy or recommend. You may get more from this article if you read JaneAnne's first. What I'm hoping for is that after reading her piece that you'll come to the same conclusion that her client did. After reading this article, I hope at the very least you'll question his decision. Mind you, there is no right or wrong answer! We can only hope that JaneAnne's client made the right decision for the right reasons.

2nd Listing - need some ideas - 12:04 PM
I just got my second listing a few days ago.  It's a great property in a neighborhood where prices range from $350K to $800K.  Anyway, there are about 8 other properties for sale in this neighborhood (there are only 60 houses in the subdivision) and most of them have been on the market for over a year.  The other agents that have listings in this neighborhood have called me and no one knows why the houses won't move. Sooo, my question is, what are some things that I can do to creatively market this house and maybe catch peoples attention?  … (0 comments)

Flattery or Plagiarism - 11:39 PM

They say that the best form of flattery is being copied. However, I wonder if you might call it flattery or Plagiarism? Hmmmmmmmm. Well, yesterday I received an email from one of my past clients who said she saw an article I had written on Sacramento Real Estate Voice about Fraud and was wondering if I happen to see the article on Mortgage Fraud Blog.
I clicked on the link and was surprised to see someone else's name and my entire article word for word and photo for photo placed on the Mortgage Fraud Blog.
Since my article Fraud in Real Estate? was written … (42 comments)

Blogging is the Family We Never Had - 11:42 AM

The feeling we get from being in a community, or group of people with similar goals or interests, gives us an enthusiasm that we rarely find elsewhere. It's assuring to talk to other people who share our beliefs or have gone through similar experiences. We get that same feeling from family, being together as children and sharing our different experiences with each other and then as we grow and we continue to keep those relationships.
And blogging gives us that community as well. More so than a chamber of commerce or social gathering, and in some ways, even more so than family. … (5 comments)

When you're gone, how will others know you were once here? - 12:36 PM

Throughout history man has always looked for ways to let others know that they were once here on earth.  Whether it was drawings on cave walls or even fossils, there are clues all around us proving there were things and people here long before we were.
Living in the technology era, we're lucky.  We have all sorts of ways of leaving a record of our existence.... Which I think is kind of cool!  Who knows, in 6000 years maybe our blogs may be likened to the Egyptian hieroglyphics.
What I'm interested in is how YOU want to be remembered. Other than the written … (26 comments)

They've Gotta Have It
A Glam Kitchen From Hollywood Is a Smash Hit Off the Screen
By Terri SapienzaWashington Post Staff WriterThursday, February 22, 2007; Page H01
The 2003 comedy "Something's Gotta Give" starred Oscar-winning legends Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson. But for lots of moviegoers, the most memorable role was played by the house, especially its big, light-filled kitchen.
The airy, shingled Hamptons beach house is walled with windows and built-in bookcases. The rooms … (10 comments)

Letters from Jessica - 01:35 AM
The cell phone vibrated, jolting my mind from its current preoccupation. We were in the car, riding the ferry over to Seattle, another doctor visit for my daughter.
I looked down at the display. 'Unknown' stared back at me. I really didn't feel like talking to anyone at the moment, especially to an 'unknown.' I waited briefly for the vibration to subside, and the quick chirping tone confirmed a message was left.
I punched the button for 'voice mail' and traveled back 3 years.
John and Jessica were a young couple very much in love. He was Navy and had recently been transferred to a boat at Bangor … (43 comments)

Referrals in the Rain - 11:59 PM
Okay, so many of the newer members of our community wander the RainScape constantly posing the question, "Does anyone ever get any business from their involvement in ActiveRain?"
Today, one of my fellow Windermere agents and good friend, Tim Roche, asked me if I knew of any agents in the Groton, Connectitcut area. He's working with some Sellers who are under orders to transfer to the Naval base in Groton. Tim sits in the office cubicle next to me. He knows all about ActiveRain. In fact, he joined a while back. But like many others, he has never gone any further than creating his profile. He knows I 'Sing in the Rain' and network … (27 comments)

Bloggers Conference in San Francisco - Bloggers Connect - 09:07 AM
I saw a post from Frances Flynn Thorsenon RealTalk that there is going to be a Bloggers Conference in San Francisco this summer.
The conference is being developed by Brad Inman (so do we have any doubt that it will be fantastic?) and will be held from July 31 - August 1, 2007, preceding the annual Real Estate Connect Conference.
Here's a quote from her post:
