I like Fred - 07:21 AM
Most of you know Fred Thompson as a actor who currently plays New York District Attorney Arthur Branch on the television series "Law and Order".
But besides being an accomplished actor (The Hunt For Red October, Thunderheart, Line of Fire & several others) former US Senator Fred Thompson is also an attorney, former shoe salesman, truck driver, and factory worker.
Senator Thompson attended Memphis State University, where he earned an undergraduate degree in philosophy and political science. He went on to receive a law degree from Vanderbilt University.
Two years later, Thompson was named an Assistant United States Attorney and later served as … (4 comments)

Denver Real Estate and Home Inspections - 02:52 PM
Yesterday I met with a client to re-check whether or not repairs had actually been done as agreed to in the Inspection Resolution.  Our inspector charged $75 to come back out and check, not a bad deal when most of the repairs were to the roof, and neither my buyer nor I were we willing to climb up on the roof ourselves.
When we arrived the homeowner let us in and gushed about how it was a good thing we had asked to have the roof repaired, and that if they hadn't sold their house they could have been in for … (0 comments)

Colorado Real Estate Commission Strikes! - 03:49 PM
Ever since Erin Toll took over as Commissioner in Chief of the Colorado Division of Real Estate, she's declared war on appraisers who overinflate values.  A press release just arrived in my email saying that a Pueblo, Colorado appraiser was fined $46,000 for many instances of overinflating values.  $36,000 was waived because he gave up his license.  But if he ever wants to practice in Colorado again, the $36,000 will become immediately due and payable.  … (0 comments)

Mortgage Woes - 04:17 PM
With all of the disasterous news currently in  the subprime mortgage industry, consumers really need to make sure that they are positioned in the proper mortgage to avoid getting into the types of trouble that is plaguing many folks right now. One product that has become popular in recent years is a "Option Arm" mortgage. In this type of mortgage, consumers are tempted with a great introductory payment plan with several options for monthly payment. One of the payment options is to make a seemingly low monthly payment with that payment guaranteed for a period of time, usually a year. . However, … (0 comments)

Send the sunshine my way..... Please!! - 01:49 PM
UGH!!  I just got done watching the weather report for this weekend and once again it looks pretty dismal for South Jersey.  Earlier in the week the weather was beautiful (wish you were here).  The report is calling for rain maybe snow and it looks like some major cities in the North East are bracing for the same.
For the past few weeks I have been telling my sellers to wait until the weather breaks - and it is getting old fast.  They don't want to hear it anymore.  So fellow AR members what do I do?  I've heard of rain … (8 comments)

The Ultimate Portability Tool: Accessing your computer remotely - 03:02 PM
"Out in the woods or in the city, it's all the same to me, when I'm driving free." When The Who wrote "Goin' Mobile," I doubt they had any idea how easy it could be to work while away from home unless you were a traveling salesman or rock band. Well, guess what? It's no longer a vision of the future. Many of you, no doubt, already use your Blackberry, Treo, etc. to access the Internet while working away from the office. But how would you like to be able to access any file on your computer as if you were sitting … (28 comments)

Book Review: The Consultative Real Estate Agent - 01:15 PM
I believe that I am a better Realtor because of what I read.  I have a small but growing collection of books that I go back to again and again.  This business requires that we be self-starters and it helps if you have a constant thirst to learn more.  If you're looking to add to your own real estate library, let me recommend The Consultative Real Estate Agent by Kelle Sparta.
This is a book about relationships.  The author has taken on some of the hardest parts of real estate and explained, case by case, how to handle them.
Sometimes people are moving for a joyous reason … (12 comments)

Bank of America Monthly Survey - 04:36 PM
Did you know that the Bank of America does a monthly real estate survey?
They poll real estate agents across the country every month to get feedback on builders and new construction. It's always interesting reading.
Their report for the Chicago Metro area indicated that we're the 6th largest market in the U.S. with 28,619 single-family permits authorized in 2006. And, I suspect that most of these homes are in the far outlying suburbs where there is still land.
Their February market trends indicated that the cold, snowy weather limited the amount of buyers thorough homes. Well, yes, I can attest to that. I … (0 comments)

Selling Your Home - First Impressions Count - 09:54 PM
When it come to selling your house first impressions count in a big way. Curb appeal is critical in creating a good first impression to potential buyers. It is important to not only have the inside of your home looking good, the outside must as well. A fresh coat of paint on the front door helps establish that initial impression. It is also important to have all yard clutter such as toys , bicycles, and yard tools removed. Make the buyers want to come in!
So if you are selling, don't be afraid to ask your REALTOR® for their advice. Although most … (1 comments)

Tips For Preparing Your Home For Sale - 11:08 PM
Here are some tips to help you if you are planning on selling your home:
Remove the personal side. It's important to create a home that will appeal to as many people as possible. Removing personal items such as photos, souvenirs, etc. will help potential buyers envision it as their next home.Organize and Clean. Clean your home thoroughly including furniture, carpets, and appliances. A clean house will sell quicker and for more money when it is clean. If you have clutter, remove it. A home that has full closets or rooms that are stuffed with boxes does not highlight the true amount … (1 comments)

Use I.C.E. It Can Save Your Life - 10:36 PM
It seems that everyone these days has a cell phone with them.  I know that I often leave my purse in the car, or my briefcase in my office, but rarely ever will you find me without my trusty cell phone attached to my body.  Conveniently programmed in the address book of my phone, is the name ICE, which is followed by my husband's cell phone, his work phone, and our home phone number.
In case you aren't familiar with ICE, the acronym stands for In Case of Emergency.  It is critical that you have your emergency contact information programmed into your phone … (0 comments)

SURE YOU CAN WRITE AN ARTICLE - JUST DO IT ! ! ! - 01:24 PM
The How and the Why to Write Articles for Active Rain and Localism.comStep #1:  Open a blank page on a word processing system or e-mail.  MS Word is a good place to write. I prefer my Eudora e-mail system because it's so simple.  Step #2:  Type your name.  You're off to a great start.  Step #3:  Think of the first subject that comes to mind.  Don't spend time trying to think of subjects.  All you'll succeed in doing is losting time trying to improve on the topic.  Just start writing about theFIRST subject that comes to mine.  A few suggestions could easily … (32 comments)
