Shameless Self Promotion or Ego? - 05:07 PM
I just read the post "What's the Difference Between a Harley or a Beemer or a Mercedes" by Denise Brophy and it reminded me of a conversation that I had with another new real estate salesperson concerning the signage on a vehicle. The other salesperson thought it was kind of tacky, provided little benefit and served only the ego of the REALTOR® who owned the vehicle. I was quite amazed with that point of view because I had never given the topic much thought. Unbeknown to the other sales rep. I had my van very tastefully labelled with my brokerage name,

Help! - Calling on some expert SEO insight (oh heck any SEO insight will do) - 09:06 PM
So there I was doing some posts both here on AR and Localism as well as implementing some of the great SEO advice I've read here (at least the stuff I could understand). I was moving up the Google ranks quite steadily the past 4 weeks - from page 52 to 12 to 4/5 and then page 2 for the past week. Then today, **POOF**, I'm nowhere to be found. Being a newbie to all this I could really use some advice concerning what I may have done wrong and how to get back on the right track. Anyone???????

Great Belleville Ontario Web-site - 09:25 PM
I just came across this great little Belleville Ontario web-site, www.bellevilleontario.ca, that offers all types of information: from entertainment/nightlife, a little local news, forums, classified advertising, etc. The input is strictly by the members of the site but there is definite value to it. Make sure you check out the forums as that is where the most info is available. So go check it out!

The tables have turned....and what a different point of view! - 09:37 PM
This past month has been a whirlwind for me. Things in life have been changing rapidly and I have really had a lot of decisions to make. Why did you get into this business? I know why I did. My Real Estate career started, without me knowing, the day I first walked into a real estate office and wanted to buy my first house. A bright-eyed 27 year old with an unknowing future. I had decided, after renting (that's a completely different story in itself), that I could buy for what I was paying and it would be mine. Well mine and the

Seller Concessions - 12:41 AM
There are seller concessions and then there are seller concessions. I've managed to negotiate inclusion of a pool table, installation of a bathtub and shower, various lawn equipment, and tons of closing costs for my buyers over the years. I have never, however, negotiated for ALL the furniture on display in the house. This week was the first. The house was a rehab, owner agent (she said she was part-time), and had already experienced a drastic price reduction. Not knowing the circumstances and firmly believing that you can only get the answer "yes" if you dare to ask the question, I

WHAT DO YOU TELL FOLKS RELOCATING TO YOUR AREA ABOUT THE COST OF LIVING? - 05:52 AM
In some real estate market areas, cost of living isn't a problem. Folks relocating from Maryland or Northern Virginia are probably going to have a favorable decrease in the cost of living at their destination location. Folks moving from many areas in the U.S. to this area are going to have a real shock when they see the cost of housing in the Maryland and Northern Virginia real estate market. The cost of goods and services is high, but the real shock to the cost of living here is housing. I get telephone calls daily from folks in areas across the country who are

Content for Web Site....Means What???? Where does it go??? - 03:27 PM
I understand to have a web site that ranks high in the search engines we should have good content for the area that we sell houses in. If we write a market report for localism.com and post it to our web site as well, are we better of posting to a blog on our website or a separate page onto the website itself? Any help will be greatly appreciated? Thank you Rainers.

Khadafi and SubPrime Lending - Repeating History (Humor) - 05:15 PM
3 April 2007 Now is the Time The (fill in title here) ruler of Libya since 1969 is a man known as Moammar Khaddafy...or maybe Muammar Qaddafi...perhaps Mommar Gaddafi...or... ?? The truth is no one really knew because his name didn't transliterate very well into English. An article in the London Evening Standard reported 37 different spellings in 2004, which is odd because everyone had forgotten who he was a decade earlier, much less cared about how to spell his name. Sure, we all could have referred to the Libyan leader by his honorific "Guide of the First of September Great Revolution of the Socialist People's

Rental Market Shrinking-Rents Rising - 04:47 PM
As home prices cool, rents are heating up •· By Alex Markels Posted 7/13/06 Just when you figured that putting off buying a house was a prudent move, the price of renting is going up. After years of slack demand and "one month free!" incentives from many landlords, apartment rental markets are tightening in many parts of the country, especially areas like Los Angeles, Miami, and Washington, D.C., where home sales have begun to slow amid increasing mortgage rates and talk of a housing bubble. Rents are expected to increase nationally by 5.3 percent this year, about twice what they did last year,

Active Rain to get competition ? - 11:19 PM
Zillow.com announced that it is offering some new features to its website that draws in the professional real estate agent and lender to interface more directly with the consumer. READ: Zillow.com New Features: "Ask Questions, Share Answers" Zillow started out as a consumer portal for real estate information centered on its highly controversial Zestimate. The Zestimate is an automated valuation model which attempts to give a consumer property value information based on historical data from county tax records. This tool was highly criticized by the real estate community as irresponsible and inaccurate. There was a growing fear that Zillow was trying to
