DANGER ! ! !   DANGER WILL ROBINSON ! ! !  Careful.  Think carefully before you do it.  Then on the other hand, if you have to think about it, perhaps you shouldn't be doing it anyway.  Is what you plan to do something you can't tell your broker?  If so, you probably shouldn't do it.  The list below represents SOME of the causes of complaints to the Maryland Real Estate Commission. That is NOT the Maryland Association of REALTORS.  Not a County Association of REALTORS.  These are complaints before the Maryland Real Estate Commission, the folks that issue real estate licenses.  … (17 comments)

Thoughts on Section 8 Housing - 02:12 PM
Besides being a mortgage consultant, I also happen to be a landlord. My dad and I have a 6-unit and a 5-unit. We have had fairly good success with screening potential renters through reference and credit checks but have the occasional late payer. Twice, we have also had to deal with a tenant who felt, for some reason or the other, that they didn't need to pay rent at all!

I have recently been thinking very strongly about Section 8 housing. I'm sure each state has this or some version of it. Basically, it's subsidized rent for low income tenants. … (27 comments)

New trends in how homes are built.... - 01:11 PM
There are many different types of homes out there. Some are wood framed and some steel. In fact in some area's of the country homes are constructed out of concrete! In our area I have noticed that some of the builders are staying on top of what consumers want. This is a good thing. Especially in this "Buyers" market that we still have here in our area.
Log homes appear to still be popular out there. They are more expensive to build/purchase but also sell for more when the time comes to move on. We don't see many adobe type homes here … (0 comments)

Your electric bill may be going up and here is why..... - 06:36 PM
It's happening again...thanks to some profit seekers on wall street. Seems the last time people were doing this we had the Enron meltdown not to mention other problems. In the below article the author( who is a pretty smart guy) tells us what is up with this saga again. Remember the Brownouts and other great things that we had to endure? Well they may be back again.

Chico,California Happenings Each Season - 03:55 PM
Have you ever been to Chico, California?
It's a great place to visit and live! We get the change of seasons from cold winter days where you can get bundled up (not like back east though), to clean a Spring from the rain and sun with butterflys and wildflowers, leading into a hot summer where you can swim in the swimming pools followed by the multitude of colors on the tree leaves changing in fall. After living in Southern California for many years, the change of seasons certainly feels more natural and led to a change in lifestyle for me.
With the change … (5 comments)

Fake It Till You Make It...The Aftermath of the First Refi Boom! - 04:28 PM
I don't need to refinance...I have a 30-year fixed!
After looking at your Promissory Note, you may be suprised!
With the craziness of the "Refi Boom" and the historical levels of appreciation in Real Estate an influx of loan officers came into the mortgage industry to make a QUICK BIG BUCK! Mortgage companies were hiring people left and right to simply keep up with the phone call demand and in most places there was a revolving door...If the new guy didn't make it as a salesperson...the next one was hired. I witnessed mortgage brokers giving their loan officers incentives to get deals closed on the phone, such … (11 comments)

BEFORE AND AFTER PHOTOS - Sometimes, the BEST window treatments are NONE at all. - 05:02 AM
Removal of window treatments often lets in far more light and can really pay off, as in this case, when there is a beautiful view just outside.  Plus, the windows now look twice as wide.  If there is a warm and beautiful paint color on the walls, and the window frames are attractive, better to save window treatments for problem windows.  Plus, it saves money, time and effort in staging your home for sale.
