War of the Roses - 08:56 PM
Well, this is my dilemma . . .
We have had a home listed since January that is about to expire. The husband and wife are getting a divorce but up until this weekend were living in the home they are trying to sell. Neither one speaks to the other. All showings have to be cleared separately. The husband will not allow the house to be shown two days a week while he is relaxing.
She desperately wants to sell at almost any price. He is happy to ride out the market since he will have to pay child support once the house sells. … (7 comments)

A Question About How To Associate, Why Associate, and some other Queries! - 04:32 PM
I really have looked to find "how" to associate with another blogger, but so far, I've not been able to find out. I would really like to know "how" and "why."  I see that others have "associated" with me, but for the life of me, no answers that I can find.
I've noticed the the Q&A appears to be geared towards real estate or mortgage questions specific to areas and/or states. What is that about?
Okay, the real puzzler for me is the Localism deal. Is there a link somewhere that will give me a step by step? I LOVE those kind of … (2 comments)

More choice in posts to read - 09:34 AM
A comment from Ed Christopher this morning led to this suggestion for ActiveRain -
We can now Subscribe to a member's posts and choose them from the Dashboard:
We can choose Members Only Posts rather than all posts that include Localism;
It would be nice to have a button where when we Subscribe to a member's blogs we can also opt at that time to see or not see their Localism posts.
Since time is critical for most of us, when we want to see a member's Localism posts we can search for the member, then look at all their blogs - but not have … (21 comments)

Monroe, Ohio - 11:58 AM
Monroe Monroe was named in honor of President James Monroe who took office when the city was being settled.
Monroe, 22 miles north of Cincinnati and 25 minutes southwest of Dayton was a major stagecoach stop on the Great Miami Turnpike. It's a city of sturdy little homes that have been standing for a hundred years or more. These historical structures, with their neat lawns and gardens in the rear, have a dignity all their own. Monroe is situated in a thriving area and is convenient to the industrial valley. This blending of old and new gives the city an exciting … (0 comments)

Will Staging Biz Book Hitting Shelves (this week) Hit the Target? - 07:29 AM

Well, I couldn't have planned it better if I tried. But considering my last post, about the difficulties of owning a home staging business, the fact that Barb Schwarz is releasing a new book this week entitled "Building a Successful Home Staging Business" is timed perfectly.
Just what will this book reveal?  I do not know. But I will SURELY read it and share my thoughts about it in a future book review here.
However, the inside front cover (quote taken from Amazon) says this: "Whether you are thinking about starting a Home Staging business or want to improve upon an existing one, this … (70 comments)

Everything you always wanted to know about TypePad Blogs but were afraid to ask... - 07:12 AM
Considering a TypePad blog?  Maybe this information will help.  Or if you decide to blog and decided TypePad  is the way to go, here's a great TypePad resource to watch and read on Active Rain: Cheryl Johnson
If you are from the Columbus Tech Users Committe but not already an Active Rain member please join  if you are a real estate professional. Many of the links here are to members only entries.
When many newer bloggers were choosing the WordPress.org platform (or having it chosen for them) Cheryl posted Making a Stand for TypePad
Here's a TypePad series Cheryl did for ActiveRain:

Everything you always wanted to know about Blogger.com blogs but were afraid to ask... - 01:42 PM
OK I stole this title from  "Everything you always wanted to know about TypePad.com blogs but were afraid to ask..."  I wrote that title too so I can borrow it.  I found a Typepad expert on ActiveRain so the  "Everything you always wanted to know about TypePad.com blogs but were afraid to ask..." entry is probably a little more helpful than this one.
Maybe Mr. Blogger.com or Ms. Blogger.com will step forward and help out about the features and benefits of blogging on Blogger.com
Or maybe Blogger.com blogs are so easy to use you don't need the numerous 'How To's' that TypePad Guru Cheryl Johnson has written for those … (0 comments)

Are you prepared for sign calls???? A great sorce of new clients. - 02:39 PM
Every property has a sign on it that is for sale. Are you prepared for a call off the sign. Do you know the particulars. Is your number and name rider up so the clients can call you. Its a great way to get clients if you know the neighborhood and what the area offers. You do not have to know the exact things as you can talk your way through the area. Make sure you have flyers describing the home and what it has to offer. I do the back of the flyer with a large note directing them to my … (1 comments)

Several bars to the block, would you live here??? French Quarter New Orleans - 03:02 PM
Tim gave me an idea for this blog when he was talking about the dry counties. This is the opposite end of the spectrum. The bars in the New Orleans French Quarter almost never close. You can get a drink or a great meal anytime of the day, night, cold weather, warm weather or anything in between. People do live here and have lived here for several hundred years. it more than likely has no effect on the real estate in the quarter unless you have a condo on Bourbon. Its more of a cultural thing. You do not need a car … (0 comments)

60 Minutes and Redfin - 09:46 PM
Like many today, I watched the CBS 60 minutes segment about Redfin versus the traditional Realtor.
My first impression is that it was a commercial. My second is that it was a modern version of William Randolph Hearst's yellow journalism. Perhaps it was both.
I know I shouldn't compare these shows with real news, and I shouldn't be surprised that CBS continues to produce them. After all, network news has lost market share and continues to do so since Gulf War 1 when CNN whipped them. MSNBC, Google News, and other cable 24 hours news has surpassed them.
If you would like to see … (1 comments)

Ahhhh...moving. Yuck! - 09:06 PM
Moving.  It is something we have all done at one time or another.  Some of us like it some of us hate it.  Personally.....I am torn.  The promise of a new start in a new (well to me) home, the mess of getting all the possessions there.
Wanna know just how much stuff you have?  Buy a new house.  Simple, efficient.  This is not what I meant when I told the wife it was time to do some "spring cleaning".  WOW!  Where did all this stuff that I have not seen in years come from?  I found tax records dating back to … (3 comments)

What is the weirdest thing you have ever negotiated into a contract? - 09:33 PM
I have seen some strange things since I started in this business.  Have heard some even stranger...but now I think I rank right up there with the winners.
Think back.  What is the strangest thing you have ever negotiated into a contract?
Me?  Guinea hens and ducks.  Yep.  You read right.  Guinea hens and ducks.  Now if you are from anywhere that has country areas you know what a guinea hen is and if you aren't then do a Google search and you will be able to relate a little better.  Actually they are great in country areas, they keep the bugs to … (9 comments)

It Was An Awesome Mother's Day !! - 10:46 PM

My Son Graduated from College today !!  Yahoo !!

My son, Branden, is a good Kid...  I always thought that the best thing I could do for my children is to teach them how to get along without me.  Branden worked his way through school.  He bought his first home two years ago and has been a homeowner and a student at the same time.
When Branden was in grade school he told me that he loves me so much that he would live with me forever.  He was always with me and we were best … (11 comments)

Habitat for Humanity took my house away: Part II - 04:05 AM

Some of you may recall a post I did a while back about Habitat for Humanity taking our house away. Actually they were just taking building materials to resell in their the Restore from my childhood home before it met the wrecking ball.  It was a huge win-win for all involved.
We sold the house in 2003, and it is looking like the new home on the site is nearing completion. Quite a change from the home I knew as 600 Lakeside, Birmingham, MI 48009. In fact, not even the address remains. Now the city has ‘retired’ 600 and given … (11 comments)
