This home is just being completed in Northwest Davenport, Iowa by a great group of youth from the Davenport and North Scott Schools. There was a very nice reception May 23 for these students and their families where $10,000 of scholarships were handed out! This program was started in 1974 and students have built about 20 homes over the years! The Greater Davenport Board of Realtors(R) continues to be a proud sponsor of this event and welcomes all volunteers to get involved by calling the Program Coordinator at (563) 386-6030. MANY HANDS MAKE LESS WORK !!! Lucky :) (0 comments)

Pascack Valley Real Estate>>What Makes A House A Home In The Pascack Valley area of New Jersey? - 10:49 PM
For this Husband and Wife Realtor Team What Makes a House a Home in the Pascack Valley area is defined by our personal histories here. To quote Dorothy in a popular clasic movie The Wizard of Oz, "There's no place like home". For us that says it all! Unlike Dorothy, we don't have to follow a Yellow Brick Road or click the heels of our Ruby Red Slippers together - not even ONCE - to be home! Both natives of the Pascack Valley area, we simply love all that it has to offer but mostly it's that hometown feel we love about it. Amidst all (19 comments)
"Rules" for Rising Stars? - 11:30 PM
Is there a "formula" for this group? It is hard to tell what can or cannot be posted here. I'm in a Rising Stars class through my office so, of course, the name appealed to me. Does anything go here? I wouldn't think so but there is some variety so I just wanted to check. Please let me know the intent of this group. Thanks! (0 comments)
What words are you made of? - 01:41 AM
Statistics show that the average working woman speaks approximately 20,000 words per day(men 7,000). The words that you use to fill this "quota" can make or break the perception that others will have of you. I have read a few quality posts on here that discuss the real estate terminology that we use on a daily basis. But what other words fill your day? In my past life (pre-real estate), I was a competitive athlete. I learned to live on words like: challenge, goal, strive, practice, performance. I have continued to carry these words with me and hold them to a great value. (5 comments)
Investing In Real Estate 7 - 09:42 PM
Use of Options in a Rising Market What a world we live in. In preparation for this week's article on "Options" I checked my computer and found 692,127 web sites on "REAL ESTATE OPTIONS". Simply put - a Real Estate Option gives the OPTIONEE the Exclusive Right to Buy (or Not to Buy) a piece of Real Estate at some future date at agreed upon terms & price. The exclusive right means that no one else can legally buy or sell that property during the term of the option. Only you can buy or sell the property, and the choice is yours! (0 comments)
Selling or Renting - 09:57 PM
Renting your home until the market turns around can be a good financial move, if you don't need the equity right away to buy another home. One option for cash-challenged buyers who keep the old house as a rental is to get a no- or low-down-payment mortgage. But before you decide to become a temporary landlord, crunch the numbers to see if the rent will cover your mortgage and other expenses. How much rent should you expect? Before tenants move in, you'll need to buy fire insurance that covers the structure and contents of the rental property. You won't need more liability (0 comments)
Buying your first home - 10:04 PM
ADVICE TO HELP YOU LOWER YOUR 2006 TAX BILL KIPLINGER TAX CENTER: http://www.kiplinger.com/features/archives/2007/01/firsthome.html Buying your first home is a huge step. When you leave the world of renting behind, you begin building equity in an investment. And Uncle Sam is there to help ease the pain of high mortgage payments. The deductions now available to you as a homeowner will reduce your tax bill substantially. And, if you have been claiming the standard deduction up until now, the extra write-offs from owning a home almost certainly will make you an itemizer. Suddenly, the state taxes you pay and your charitable gifts will (0 comments)
damm .. i should shorted new century !! - 04:22 AM
New Century Financial, the largest U.S. subprime lender in bankruptcy, said on Thursday it probably inflated 2005 earnings because of accounting errors, a disclosure that might add fuel to federal criminal and regulatory examinations into the company. The errors concerned losses on repurchased loans, and how New Century valued other mortgage-related assets, the company said in a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing. This is sub prime mess ! (2 comments)
Blog Interrupted - 10:50 AM
As some may have noticed, I've been absent from AR for several weeks. Truth is, life just got in the way. My mom has been hospitalized for four weeks now and my wife, Amie, and I are in the throes of purchasing a townhouse. That, plus the other routine stuff life is made of, has captured most of my time and attention. But, as Arnold put it, "I'll be back!" (Hopefully, starting next week. We'll see.) (10 comments)

Link Points? - 11:37 PM
Ok, I went and added a a link from activerain to a webpage. I then put the link in the box where I got the link. They say they will review it in 48 hours. It has been over 72 hours. Is this a normal thing? I was wondering if I need to resubmit the link where I but the banner link. I am waiting to ad more to my other pages until I know it works. Thanks for your feedback. New Lead from Active Rain. wow - 11:46 PM
Today at 1:15 my cell phone rings when I was driving my car so I did not answer it. When I looked on my phone the person did not leave a message either. I pulled into my friends hotdog stand in Schaumburg and before I went in I figured I would call the number. Well guess what. Yep, the person did not answer. So I left a message with my name and someone called from that number. Four minutes later my cell phone rings. Then this woman tells me who she is and that she was looking for a loan. As it (1 comments)
Jumping the Shark - 10:53 AM
In the interest of amassing bogging points without ever really saying much other than demonstrating a marvelous grasp of the obvious, I am writing to wish all of you a great holiday weekend and to allow some of my thoughts to ramble out into the public sphere. At least I am honest about it. And I remind myself that the origin of "blog" was a personal log, like a diary of sorts, so I believe that this kind of thing is permitted. I feel like lately I have been "jumping the shark." For those of you that did not grow up (22 comments)
MAY MARKET REPORT NOT MEETING EXPECTATIONS The first 25 days of May, 2007 for Stone and Barry County real estate sales do not reflect any vigorous activity. Stone County, which includes Kimberling City, Reeds Spring, Lampe and portions of Shell Knob, had 754 home listings, including 207 condominiums. There are 83 pending sales.Barry County in the Shell Knob area had 870 total residential listings with 7 pending sales. This is not the strong spring market the area had hoped for in the lake/resort location. There is concern that the increased gas prices may affect not only travel, but the leisure use of (0 comments)
BRUINS ARE HUNGREY - 11:39 PM
BEWARE OF THE BEAR Can you imagine waking up from a three month nap? No coffee. You are hungry and the fridge is empty! That is how bears feel in June. So they go on the prowl for food, and nothing else. No nonsense.
Last November I had a rare sighting on the edge of Shell Knob, of a black bear and her two cubs. It was Thanksgiving, but unusually warm. The bears were probably stoking up for the winter hibernation. I was thrilled to have my first view of them outside of a zoo. Unfortunately I didn't have a (3 comments)
