Looking back on the Thanksgivings of my youth. It was a noisy time! - 11:21 AM
It's Thanksgiving Day, 2008. Thanksgiving is a favorite holiday of mine, second only to Christmas. It has so many good memories associated with it that it is also inspires nostalgia.
When I was growing up in Pittsburgh Pennslyvania, we always celebrated Thanksgiving at our house. As there were already twelve of us, and if you threw in two grandmothers, a few aunts and uncles, and twenty or so cousins it was quite a tribe participating.
We always watched the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on television, followed by a football game or two. As there were only three channels from which to … (43 comments)

I'm an original Pilgrim! - 11:38 AM
I am an original pilgrim and that is why Thanksgiving is so important to me!
No, I did not come across in the Mayflower. I did, however, arrive in North America via a 747. My family emigrated from England when I was only five years old. We arrived in Canada on a cold, snowy day and I remember my mother saying how important this day was. It was the beginning of a new and better life for our family.

My family kept moving as my father found better job opportunities. We immigrated into the United States after a few years … (40 comments)

Thanksgiving...A Week With Two Sundays...!!! - 11:42 AM
I just finished watching Missy Caulk's smilebox presentation for Thanksgiving, and if you haven't yet seen it, you don't know what your missing...accompanied by the music written by Louis Armstrong, What A Wonderful World, Missy's creation, better than any, elicits the emotions and the love and the appreciation and the care we Active Rainers have for each other...
Go on over, I'll wait a few minutes...
So many diverse personalities, moods, temperaments, opinions, religious and political viewpoints, all melted together in one 'smilebox' of thanksgiving!
Sunday is usually the day we set aside as a day of rest, reflection, giving thanks, and worship … (41 comments)

Spreading Love and Thanks To Our Military Troops! Happy Thanksgiving - 01:46 PM
Giving Thanks...
There is something to be said when I can go to my home and feel safe..very safe..or I can drive a car..and work where I want...I can openly express my views..I can make as little money or as much money as I want...and I don't have to worry about being imprisoned for saying the wrong thing.  Because the U.S. military..protects me!
I'm not about war..I would rather everyone live in peace and harmony..but I am a realist..and still regardless of my personal feelings about war.... I'm thankful for our U.S. military.
I don't always agree with our government..and I … (18 comments)

TODAY IS A DAY TO BE THANKFUL FOR... AND SO SHOULD EVERY DAY--Happy Thanksgiving AR Friends! - 11:30 AM
Though it's foggy and damp outside this morning, I am feeling even more blessed than usual. I am opening the doors of my little cabin in the San Bernardino Mountains to many friends and family, some I haven't seen in years.  And that makes it even more special. We'll be crowded, to say the least, but even that makes me smile, as closeness is what the holidays are all about, right?
It's not important that we're dining in a small home. It's not important that the weather is a tad soggy. It's not important if the sweet potato cassorole gets a tiny bit … (28 comments)

Thank You ActiveRain - 11:36 AM

Thank you to Jonathan and the entire team of ActiveRain gurus who created this community, and to all of you who constantly bring new value to ActiveRain.
I won't hold it against you that I can't get my real estate show to embed in my ActiveRain blog this morning - I figured out a work-around with tools I've learned through this amazing community.
Happy Thanksgiving to all!
P.S.  I'm in "information overload" now, so please take a break 'til after Christmas.  I need to digest and apply what I've already learned before … (33 comments)

YOU BET I'M THANKFUL - 08:41 PM
Last night around midnight, I was reading the new James Patterson book and there was a loud noise outside. Pretty unusual for my neighborhood so I went outside to investigate. The noise I heard was someones car hitting my truck which was parked out on the street.
Another driver saw the accident happen and had already stopped and called the police and ambulance to take care of the kid who was in pretty bad shape. The speed limit on Crofton Parkway is 25 mph, and he was estimated to be going over 60 mph when he hit my truck. No skid … (74 comments)

Happy Thanksgiving - Put your Turkey on Lay-Away - 11:27 AM

I have finally finished raking all the leaves and the squirrels are busy gathering  acorns for the winter.  New Hampshire just missed a snow storm and everyone is getting things ready for Thanksgiving.
It has been a challenging year.  However, it is when times are the most difficult that we tend to grow the most.  We are strong, resilient and have hope!
Perhaps, this bad economy has some benefits.  One benefit is that many people are rediscovering what is important in life! It allows us to focus on all that we have and what is possible to achieve.

Thank You Active Rain! My First Listing From Blogging! - 05:59 PM
I am so thrilled to get my first listing from blogging on Active Rain!
About ten days ago I received an email from a Realtor in Las Vegas Nevada looking for an energetic agent to list and sell a condo for a client she had from Branford CT who is relocating to the Las Vegas area.
When I spoke to the agent and asked how she happened to choose me, she told me she did a search online and came across one of my Active Rain posts about the Branford CT Condo market.
I couldn't believe how far reaching the power … (80 comments)

Who Has 500,000 AR Points? Which State Has the Most AR Members? Which state has the fewest? Here are ALL your Answers: - 05:58 PM
With over 122,000 members on board, Active Rain has become quite a Force.  I recently ventured into the "States" section, curious to see where our members come from.    I was not surprised to find that California had the most members, 18,113 to be exact.  Florida came in second with 13,884 members on its roster.  To make it to the front page of AR for the state of California, you have to have scored at least 97,541 points.  Florida's members are even more competitive:  to make it to the front page in that state, you better have over 110,000 points under … (129 comments)

Every Day is Thanksgiving! - 11:32 AM
Why wait for one day a year to give thanks?  Don't be a turkey.
I've got "My Gratitude List" posted right in front of my computer where I can see it everyday and reflect on it each and every day.
My Gratitude List
Here's what I am grateful for:
God's presence in my life. Being born and raised in the United State of America My freedom and the men and women who fight to maintain it. My education; my parents who treasured and paid for it; and the teachers who taught it. My health and the privileges it affords me. My … (34 comments)

For This I Am Grateful - 11:33 AM
If the only prayer you said in your whole life was, 'thank you,' that would suffice." - Meister Eckhart

Thanksgiving is my favorite day of the year. I love practicing gratitude and sharing the day with friends and family. This has been a challenging year to say the least, but I have so much to be grateful for it's heard to know where to start.
I am grateful I have found my soulmate in Laura. I am grateful for my good health. I am grateful I have so many wonderful friends, including so many I have met here … (21 comments)

Thanksgiving Reflection on Activerain in Black & White - 11:21 AM
There is so much to be thankful for this year, it is hard to know where to start. So grab a cup of coffee and watch this Smilebox I made for all my Activerain friends here.
Last year, I set a goal to meet 100 members of Activerain in person. Well, I far succeeded that goal. It was some of the highlights of the year for me to meet people at Inman Connect, Re-Bar Camp, KW Family Reunion and NAR in Orlando.
I wonder if Jon Washburn the founder of Activeran has any clue what he created here? The relationships … (55 comments)

What this time of year means to me. - 11:44 AM

What this time of year means to me.

This time of year means family, food, love, warmth, happiness, and gratitude.

It means coming together and putting aside differences and eating food that has been lovingly cooked for those most important to us to enjoy.

It means laughing and singing and pouring over old pictures and talking about memories past and building memories for the future.

It means being grateful that we have the opportunity to share time and space with those still here to enjoy another day on earth.

It means being thankful … (28 comments)

The Power of Giving - The Gift of Thanks - 11:31 AM
I would be seriously remiss if I didn't stop this evening to give my sincere and heart felt "thanks" to ActiveRain and all the members who make this network such a wonderful place to work and play.  Taking time to say "thank you" to others may seem like a small and insignificant gesture, but the power in those words "Thank You", no matter how they are delivered, usually mean as much to the receiver as they do to the giver.
Being thankful is more than just saying it to someone, it's showing them your gratitude by your actions, your efforts, and … (111 comments)

On this eve of Thanksgiving...I have been making my list of blessings and checking it twice. Naturally, ActiveRain is on my list. This 'place' is more than just another business tool...it is magical.

ActiveRain is also a ton of fun! So...enuff with all the serious 'stuff'! IF you think you know everything there is to know about ActiveRain...here's your chance to show it off. I've put together a little crossword puzzle of some of the things that make ActiveRain so great. Do you know ALL of the answers? It might just be harder than you think.

Oahu homeowners can receive tax assessments via e-mail - 05:05 PM
The City and County of Honolulu is encouraging homeowners to register for e-mail delivery of the annual tax assessment notices.
E-mail delivery has several advantages over traditional mailing:
- A copy can be stored on your compute without taking up any space on your desk or in your file cabinet.
- The notice is easily transmitted to others if needed.
- We save the City and County of Honolulu the cost of printing and mailing a letter.  Remember, homeowners WE ARE the City and County of Honolulu, this means we're saving ourselves (the taxpayers) money too.
- E-mail is delivery is … (0 comments)

My new REO fav!!! - 12:13 AM
My new favorite part of REO has got to be "RA," or re-assignment. I have recently gotten a couple files re-assigned to me. One was with the other agent for over 400 days and the other was 120+/- days. I got lucky since I had done BPO's inside both these complexes and knew the HOA's pretty well. I got the listing put it on the market and put together a competative BPO to help illustrate why the property sat on the market for so long and why they are in luck that they re-assigned it to me!! (wink wink) The first … (7 comments)

This year's theme is "Traditions of the Season".  The theme was selected to honor the abundant and diverse customs celebrated by citizens of New Hampshire.

After 500 BPO's - I'm Still Learning - 03:48 PM
I first became involved in the Default Industry just after Thanksgiving 2006, in an effort to find a way to supplement my income from home, as I was becoming more homebound in caring for a sick wife suffering with cancer.
Much of what I learned was from Asset Managers who I think were learning about this industry right along with me.  Together we grew and adjusted to meet the needs of our common clients - whether they be Wall Street Investors looking to purchase a portfolio of loans or large loan servicers pricing REO listings for quick liquidation...and many other reasons … (19 comments)

Do you dare be thankful while in pain??? - 09:59 AM
I try to be thankful everyday. I fail. I think that being thankful everyday is akin to godliness. There is so much going on that I am guilty of getting wrapped up in the minute and overlooking the hour. Just going through the last week or so has my head spinning.

I drove to South Carolina. Gas prices seemed to fall with every exit I passed. Now, I remember last summer vividly. Gas prices passed $4 per gallon. The impact of the increase was felt across the nation. I was convinced that prices would come down, but I never thought … (1 comments)

A year end bonfire - 07:27 AM
Every year about this time, I think about this.
There are dozens of boxes of old files and documents and stuff ready to be shredded at the end of the year.
I think it would be more fun to burn them.
In fact, I'd love to have a community bonfire to dispose of all this stuff.  A celebration in the style of Burning Man.
One special day would be designated.  The city could close off some streets, designate a large parking lot, or other concrete area for fire safety.  The fire department could stand by in case of any problem.

Santa Cruz lighted Boat Parade....... is a fun local event to bring the kids to - 03:26 PM
The Santa Cruz Yacht Club is hosting it's annual lighted boat parade in the Santa Cruz, Ca harbor. This event is fun for all and it a free event. As it is done at night, be sure to dress warmly, mittens and scarves. I find that unless you bike there, to bring quarters to feed the meters. I would also advise you to bring a thermos of coffee or hot chocolate and maybe even an umbrella in case it rains. This fun event has boats all lit up in the spirit and colors of Christmas. Santa even comes down sometimes to view … (1 comments)

Short Sale Tales Part 21 - "But the Bank Said....." - 08:03 PM

We have been on several pre-listing SHORT SALE appointments in the last week on houses that had been listed from $200-$800,000 and in most cases, the sellers had no idea that they were "upside down" .  The re-curring theme with these sellers was home equity loans....after all a year ago...two years ago...the bank told them that their home "Appraised for $X...." and even allowing for little appreciation...or even some depreciation....they believed their homes would still sell for more than they owed....they would just break even or make less profit
A bank appraisal to withdraw equity a … (1 comments)

Black Friday! How many of you actually go out and fight and wait in lines? Some online tips! - 02:27 PM
I don't know that I ever did the "Black Friday" thing, but I guess lots do. On the news last evening, there were tons of people sitting in line at Best Buy (since Tuesday night) in order to catch a good deal! WOW!!! I guess if I had to wait in line to feed my family, then I would consider such an action, but to get a "deal?"
While at the doctor's the other day, the girl who was getting me ready for the doctor was all excited about: going at 4:00 in the morning tomorrow to get a deal. She … (33 comments)

A Day of Thanks & Gratitude - 03:51 PM
There is much to be thankful for this and every year, and family is always at the top of my list.
After a morning of playing with the new Grand-Kitty, a Thanksgiving lunch feast out with my honey, and an afternoon seeing "Bolt", I'm packing to fly to the Twin Cities tomorrow.
Saturday, my 77-year-old aunt from North Dakota is getting married to her 78-year-old honey from Michigan. Besides her entire family, much of the extended family will be there to celebrate and share their joy.
With a grateful and filled heart, I wish you and yours a … (5 comments)
