One thing that stands out about a real estate professional is their ability to keep their cool under pressure. The process of buying or selling real estate can be a very stressful process. One of the common misconceptions that most real estate agents in today's market have is that they are there to please people and appear to be committed to that very detail. But, the truth of the matter is, by "pleasing people" instead of "helping people", they are actually setting themselves up for failure, whether that be consciously or unconsciously.
Bottom line -- You are not in this business to "please" people. You are here to "help" people.

Today I received a call "out of the blue" from a fellow ActiveRain real estate agent, who works with a different brokerage.
We share a target territory in common and knew each other professionally prior to joining AR, not to mention we speak from time-to-time about real estate things in general. Whenever possible, we try to show one another's listings. He's a family man and a successful agent, who also has another profession that he works hard at everyday. Most importantly, he's always positive and pleasant whenever we encounter one another.

TENANTS NEED TO BEWARE - 03:16 PM
I received a call yesterday regarding one of my available rental listings in town.
As I screened the caller and asked the typical questions, I determined that they are currently in a rental property.
Then they advised me that they are being evicted.
Immediately my guard went up. I asked, "what's going on"?
They went on to explain that they have been there since July, have paid their rent every month, on a timely basis. In fact, they also just paid their December rent and that their landlord has their month and a half security deposit...

I've had a bug up my boo about referrals, but with a few small tweaks I've managed to work it out.
Why don't some professionals take referrals seriously. Over the seventeen years of working in the industry I have had the opportunity to speak with real estate buyers and sellers and place referrals- some business, some family, some friends with real estate agents. One thing is certain, a good referral partner at first glance can be hard to come by.

Another quiet hurricane season ends in Florida - Insurance rates to go UP! - 09:17 AM
Back in 2004, Florida was hit by three hurricanes in six weeks. It was a freak of nature! Central Florida had not had a direct hit for 40 years before that.
In 2005 there was one major storm - again, nothing in Central Florida. In 2006 and 2007 there was nothing at all.
Each time, rates went up. Now the 2008 season has come to an end and Florida was hit by Tropical Storm Fay which certainly caused some flooding, but overall another quiet season - the third one in a row.

The United States was top of the agenda for Environmentalists currently meeting in Poland at the UN Climate Change conference. And it was harsh criticism of the US that was coming from their mouths saying that no meaningful commitments were forthcoming.
This meeting- attended by 190 countries who no doubt used a lot of private jets to get there - is a pre cursor to one that will take place in Copenhagen next year when the world will agree on new targets. The Hillside area of Anchorage is growing rapidly; faster than any other Anchorage community and plans are underway to plan its future.
Currently there are approximately 8,500 homes in the Hillside area. The projected growth (10,000 - 15,000) calls for another 5,000 homes to be added to the area.

There was an interesting article that appeared in my "inbox" this morning entitled "Selling Homes Quickly". Now, working in an environment today where that is a particular challenge, it seemed like a good idea to check it out. So I did.
