Ann Arbor Urban Fairies, Little Ann Arbor Real Estate Experts - 06:07 PM
Graphic artist Jonathan Wright has been living with fairy doors in his Ann Arbor home since the mid- 1990s, when the kids in his wife's day-care discovered one under the stairway.
When the precisely detailed 6-8 inch tall doors started showing up in downtown Ann Arbor businesses, Wright (who deftly sidesteps questions about any personal connection to the doors) decided to study this teeny, tiny real estate phenomenon. He planted journals in fairy-friendly establishments, gathered the observations and artwork of the masses and put together a book, "Who's Behind the Fairy Doors?"
Since that first tiny door appeared under the stairs, … (2 comments)

Can't think of anything to write? Be a fly on the wall - 06:07 AM
I constantly look for things to inspire me.  I feel like a sponge I want to absorb all that is around me.  Many times there is more information than I can take in however occasionally I end up with writers block. Try as I might I can't focus on anything to write.

B.T. (Before Twitter) I would come here to Active Rain and look for inspiration.  I would read for hours sometimes all day. Usually it would work.  I'd come here early in the morning and it certainly has been a great place to start the day.

I also … (17 comments)

Credit Unions, small banks shine in difficult times - 09:50 AM
While the biggest banks are suffering from a subprime mortgage fallout, community banks and credit unions haven't had big losses. They never made risky loans. Credit unions are different from other financial institutions because they are not-for-profit cooperatives. They are owned by the members and operated mostly by volunteer boards.
One financial analyst interviewed on Fox Business says the shareholders and board members in credit unions know their own money is at risk when they make a loan, so they are more conservative.
The capital in credit unions is at an all-time high, according to the Credit Unions National Association, Inc., … (0 comments)

Learn to speak up so you'll be noticed - 12:42 PM
You may not be a naturally outgoing person, but you can learn to speak out at a meeting and in groups so your ideas will be heard.
Businesses need that capability. Otherwise, quiet people may have bright ideas that never come to light.
Having the ability to express yourself makes you appear to be more prepared and more capable. Those with verbal skills are able to communicate more powerfully and motivate others.
If you weren't born with verbal skills, you can cultivate them.

A cool way to distribute a document - 01:55 PM
Being a member of certain forums, sometimes there are documents or excel spreadsheets that need to be shared with other members, but the obvious question is how do I do that?
Enter drop.io
Yes, that is the whole internet address.  I was emailed several times about posting a excel spreadsheet that I use for my other hobby of reloading.  I answered the emails several times with the spreadsheet attached and then thought there had to be an easier way.  So off to Google for a search...Google is joust awesome.
Up comes drop.io.  Here is a tutorial on how to use the … (1 comments)

WHAT HAS COST THE AMERICAN ECONOMY MORE THAN THE MORTGAGE MESS? SPAM!! - 06:16 AM
If folks only knew!
If the government only cared!
Inspired by Paul Henderson  this morning who published an article about one of the most hated subject of the 21st Century, SPAM.
THE DIRTY LITTLE SECRET ABOUT SPAM.  The problem is not the number of SPAM pieces that get through your filters.  The problem is the number of SPAM pieces that do not get through and why are they coming to you in the first place.  The average ISP spends $Thousands of Dollars each year to battle SPAM.  Every single Internet related service of which we know or use would cost less if the … (45 comments)

13 fool proof ways to create a bad real estate video - 02:14 PM
Video production is not for everyone. Not only is it frustrating, but it's time consuming and technical. Nobody expects your video to be a Hollywood blockbuster, but one does assume that your video will reflect your professionalism as a realtor as well as a proper representation of the home for your sellers.
Nashua Video Tours has provided high definition real estate video tours of homes and communities in New England for nearly 4 years. We have been featured on the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric and National Public Radio (NPR). We will be featured in an upcoming story and video … (65 comments)

Best Transformation in 2008 - 11:21 PM
Well once again Kathy Nielsen, Stager Extraordinaire has got us all going down memory lane. It was hard, at first, to come up with a favorite room transformation but as I got to thinking, I thought about posting my last job just before Christmas. It seems that with every house I stage I say the same thing..."THIS WAS MY BEST", until next time...so here it is my fave for 2008!
The challenge in this room was the shape of the room and the placement of the windows.
By working with a Loveseat and angling the furniture, the room seems more proportional … (8 comments)

Assure Your Soul - 05:06 PM
Ernest Holmes work and writing have been an amazing inspiration to me.  In his book the Science of Mind he writes:
I shall keep the promise that I have made to myself.  I shall never again tell myself that I am poor, sick, weak nor unhappy.
I shall not lie to myself anymore, but shall daily speak the truth to my inner Soul, telling It that It is wonderful and marvelous ; that it is one with the Great Cause of all Life, Truth, Power and Action.
I shall whisper these things into my soul until it breaks forth in … (4 comments)

What's Your Social Media Game Plan for 2009? - 11:49 AM
Getting Your 2009 'Social Media' Game On!
They say that if you 'AIM' at nothing, you'll hit it every time. This is especially true as it relates to our real estate business and the need for some consistent, intentional, and well-conceived planning. I am always amazed at how many people never take the time to honestly assess/evaluate their past year's marketing efforts, and then establish some realistic, measurable goals for the coming New Year.
Creating an effective Marketing Plan doesn't have to be overly-detailed or complicated. You don't have to be a Rocket Scientist or Spread Sheet Wizard to formulate … (53 comments)

Renovation Mistakes continued - 03:32 PM
This list is pretty extensive and will continue over several days.  You may want to check out my previous entry on this topic:
Renovation Mistakes
Bathrooms and kitchens sell houses and add value.  Why then would you build a bathroom that is too small and awkward to get around in?  And, be sure to use appropriately sized fixtures and fittings.  Don't put a small sink in a huge bathroom, and likewise don't use up small space with over sized vanities, tubs and toilets.  Don't ignore the lighting sources in your room.  If you have a small, dimly lit room with small … (0 comments)

Real Estate Update for Glen Burnie, Anne Arundel County, MD for the week Ending December 27, 2008 - 03:58 PM
The market remains fairly stable despite the drop in interest rates last week.  Now, imagine what would happen if the media told you the rates would drop more, so you wait.  Check with your lender to see if rates dropped if you would be able to float your rate down to the new rate.  The number of new listings has decreased but we are still seeing a similar number of homes going under contract and settling.  I'm surprised I'm not seeing more individuals making the decision to buy with so many great deals available.  The weather is unseasonably mild this week, with temperatures … (0 comments)

Turkey Leftovers - Turkey Makhani in the Slow Cooker - 04:50 PM
Did you have a big turkey dinner for Christmas?  And, do you have leftovers now?  We had turkey.  Usually we choose a country from whom we adopt a menu and that is the theme of our dinner.  But, I was so busy leading up to Christmas that I didn't get a chance to adopt and plan a menu for Mexico.  So, instead we had appetizers that were a Mexican/Latino theme and a traditional turkey dinner.  And, like most families we had left over turkey.
One of my favorite websites that I read regularly is A Year of Crockpotting and there are some … (5 comments)

The Times they are a Changing - are you? - 08:54 PM
Change is coming, are you ready? Change accompanied with hope and a great attitude can make such a difference.
A quote by James Allen, one of my favorites, says it best:

So what change do you want for 2009? sit back and think for a moment. Write down the top five areas that you want change in. Not, HOW, WHEN but WHAT!

Now sit back, close your eyes and think again. What tools, resources do you have now at your fingertips that you could use to accomplish these goals? Include people, systems, software, hardware then STOP. Don't spend another … (4 comments)

Want to Get Married on the Beach? Some Things to Consider? - 11:48 AM
Getting married on the beach, for some, is a dream, a must-do. We certainly have plenty of beaches here in the Carlsbad area to consider - Ponto, Tamarack, Frazee, South Carlsbad, Grandview, Stone Steps, Beacon's, Moonlight, Swami's, Cardiff State Beach.

I'm not a wedding planner or anything of the sort, but this topic is kinda important right at the moment. My older daughter and her fiancé are planning their wedding for next September (we are thrilled) and getting married on one of our local beaches is a must do. We think it's a great idea.
While it might seem to … (7 comments)
