Real Estate Begging...It's Not My Bag - 02:26 PM
I saw a very large sign the other day on the corner of a semi-busy intersection which stated "We Pay You the Most to Find Your Home". Whoa, hit the brakes there buddy! Let me get this straight.....you're going to pay someone to let you work for them?
Have I overlooked something in the last eighteen years? I mean, I know I don't sell a tangible product such as Target or Nordstrom, so I doubt trying to use an anology such as "Would Nordstrom pay ME to buy a Pair of Uggs from their Store?" would work here.
 I'm in the service … (71 comments)

AR Featured Posts: Are We Missing an Opportunity? - 02:22 PM
This is another one of those "opportunity doesn't pick locks" kind of thoughts, you know, one that's potato-off-the-couch elevating: it's something that doesn't come to us; we have to go out there in action and make it happen.
I talked to AR about this, it was a spur of the moment brain belch, some time ago (after Caleb left), and Jeff Belonger's terrific post below about suggested AR changes dusted off the thought again. I started to comment on it with Jeff, but realized it's a post. So hear we are.
TWO DIFFERENT AR FEATURED POST SECTIONS:1. Lets have one that's just like … (34 comments)

It's Almost Unbelievable - How can they not believe? - 10:11 PM
A friend approached me 10 months ago and mentioned that she was helping her mom put her house on the market. She then asked if I had any thoughts about staging it. I said, "of course you need to stage it." She then explained that her Realtor is a non-believer. My friend was a little worried though as her mom's medical bed was in the middle of the family room. The Realtor assured her that it did not need to be moved and when the house was being shown they would simply throw a blanket over it. - OH MY GOSH!
I told her I would be happy to … (69 comments)

KW Convention Update - 02:26 PM
This will be short and I'll post more later, as only back in the room for a few minutes. Seth Godin spoke today, in the Key Note Session. It was, without a doubt very inspiring and he  spoke on this latest book the The Dip. If you remember this was the book Fran suggested to me I read when I was trying to make my decision on whether to go or stay at RE/MAX.

Yesterday Mariana Wagner spoke on blogging. It was really good, she is an excellent speaker and her personality really comes through. Did I say I felt like I … (55 comments)

What Part Of "Lawsuit" Do You Not Understand?...ROAR! - 12:46 PM
Over the past several weeks I have read a handful of Blog Posts where the Real Estate Bloggers have said just enough to be a danger to themselves and to our Industry as a whole. Defamatory remarks and unsubstantiated accusations come with a price. Should the parties involved on the other end of these remarks and accusations decide to take legal action…The word ‘lawsuit’ could very well come into play. The Bloggers/Salespeople typing those remarks could find themselves in the midst of a lawsuit for Defamation of character, Slander and Libel. Before I type another word…Let’s define these...Defamation of character is … (110 comments)

You could be on the best sellers list or in the discount blog bin - 10:11 PM
Recently I read a blog by our fellow Activerainer Jason Sardi titled So why exactly are you here and should it matter to me? This blog had some great points and I just had to add my thoughts and expand on what he had to say.The argument that Activerain is for social or business will never end and each person has their own reason for being here. Like Jason, I guess I just don't care why you are here either, but that doesn't mean I don't care about you as a person.
Just like every book in a bookstore, every blog … (44 comments)

Selling the Lifestyle Leads to Success.-How Your Client's Testimonials Can Help. - 02:27 PM
I read a very interesting remark today by Tom Peters, "'non-geniuses' sell Rolexes. Geniuses sell the Rolex lifestyle." Tom didn't use the word 'non-geniuses', however he did  use a similar word which was a bit more graphic.Above the "'non-geniuses' sell Rolexes" line, he had a picture of a Rolex.  Above the "Geniuses sell the Rolex lifestyle" line, he had a picture of a beautiful yacht going across a calm blue lake.
In our localism posts, we are hopefully following this credo and selling the lifestyle of our communities, not the houses themselves.  How do we sell lifestyle? I would start by … (83 comments)

Motor City Driven Under? - 03:48 PM
After reading the paper today I was a bit surprised at the high number of foreclosures coming out of some areas around the country. Detroit appears to be in a real crises. Roughly 4.9 percent of the households in the Detroit metro area were in some stage of foreclosure in 2007, which is 4.8 times the national average; according to the study released by mortgage research company RealtyTrac Inc.
Stockton, Calif., ranked second with about 4.8 percent of its households in some stage of foreclosure, while the Las Vegas metro area was third with a 4.2 percent rate. In all, 72,616 filings on … (9 comments)

Inspired By A Love Song! To My Best Friend Louie..Happy Valentines Day! - 06:55 PM

Luis,
I have tried to write this post several times trying to explain our love affair.
The truth is there were so many twists and turns that I must have started over 25 times.
Valentines Day to me is every day with you...I have learned life gives us little surprises..
Gotta treat each day as if it is your last you just never know! No regrets!...No Guts...No Glory!
Although I might complain about the text messages or the way you worry.
In all honesty, I love it and appreciate it more than you will ever know. I have this comfort...a real nice … (18 comments)

Response to my Request for Support for Katie's Law SB-5095-2007-08 - 06:01 PM

A couple of days ago I received a copy of a letter that was written by a Washington State resident that was responding to my request for support for Katie's Law.  She had sent the letter to her legislators asking for support for Washington State's version of Katie's Law.  It is the first time that I have received a letter like this, although, I know there must be many of you out there that have personally known or are related to victims of horrific crimes that this DNA bill would help to address.
I am enclosing a copy of the letter, because … (4 comments)

According to a recent article by RISMedia, additional results from a new retirement study conducted by Gray Hair Management, one of leading career coaching, networking and job search resources for professionals with base salaries of $75,000 to $300,000+, reveal that 70% of America's corporate executives plan to pursue hobbies, travel or golf during their retirement years, and half are planning a post-retirement relocation.

Alyssa Playing Hookie- Is it OK at 12 weeks? - 09:22 AM
Alyssa started daycare last week.  It wasn't a full week because we played hookie on Friday.  I then took her again on Monday.  Monday night, she was coughing at 2am.  I was livid!  5 days at daycare and already sit?!
She had no fever, and was happy as ever, so I took her back yesterday.  I walked in and asked which kid had been coughing on mine.  They felt really bad, but apparently, they were all sniffly so no big deal to leave.  She sounded worse last night, but she slept through the night, 9 hours!
Got up this morning, still happy … (4 comments)

Another one bites the dust - 08:14 AM
Imad Mughniyeh - the Hezbollah terrorist said to be responsible for more than 800 American deaths, has reportedly been killed in a car bomb in Syria.
Hezbollah is blaming the Israelis and Israel has denied it, but it really doesn't matter. These terrorists need to understand that there is no place to hide.
According to Fox: "Mughniyeh, who had been in hiding for years, was among the fugitives indicted in the United States for the 1985 hijacking of a TWA airliner in which a U.S. Navy diver was killed. He was also suspected of masterminding attacks on the U.S. Embassy and the … (9 comments)

203 K loans??? - 04:31 PM
Anyone know about loans to rehab a home? I have a client that is looking at a Hud repo and the property quilifies for a 203K loan. Is that the way to go or is there something else out there better? My client has great credit but is young so he doesn`t have a whole lot to put down. Is there a loan he can get that he can do the rehab? He was prequified when he came to me but he is shopping again for several reasons.

WordPress: Open On A Static Page/Link To Post Page - 06:50 AM
Here's a question for Wordpress gurus.
Someone wants to setup a WordPress blog to function more like a website, so they set a static page as the main page, like this:
They click the Options tab, then the Reading tab ....
Then under Reading Options -> Front Page -> Front page displays, they select a static page, and then they click Update Options,
Okayfine.  But suppose they then want to create a navigation link to their blog posts.
What does the URL to access blog posts become??  I have tried a number of variations, and haven't come up with the answer.
I could probably create another page with … (14 comments)

Rewarding Commentors - ActiveRain Enhancement Request - 08:18 AM
Valentine's Day is tomorrow.  Let's talk about LINK LOVE.
I just happened across a great post over at Daude Miracle "The Single, Most Prorfound Way to thank your Commentors" and it is pretty amazing...   In fact it is really simple.   Allow Google to follow to the commentors BLOG.  Daude Miracle explains it best:
"  It seems that all blogware - WordPress, TypePad, Blogger, Movable Type, etc - inserts a little piece of code in all outgoing links that come from comments. In an attempt to stop comment spam, this little piece of code tells search engines not to follow and record any outgoing … (10 comments)

A History Austin's Oldest Neighborhood Clarksville - 05:12 PM
One of Austin’s oldest areas is the Old West Austin neighborhood of Clarksville. Its central location, between Lady Bird Lake and Enfield, and Lamar and Mopac, makes it highly popular with those looking to live in town, without having to go the downtown condo route.
Where Clarksville sits now was once part of the plantation owned by Texas governor Elisha M. Pease. At the end of the Civil war, it is said that Pease sectioned of a part of his land for his emancipated slaves, in hopes they would live nearby and continue working for him.
Clarksville was founded … (1 comments)

How do YOU Navigate through Active Rain? - 12:03 AM
I guess I consider myself still somewhat of a newbie...  I get on the Rain & I tend to be scattered in my navigation.  I select the posts of my Associates and read through the most recent ones, then I skip over to the home page and look for the most active posts, then I go back to a group here and there...
I'm just curious if you have a system for navigating through the rain & if I'm missing some basics?
Any info you can provide will help!

East Riverside Drive Southeast Austin to Go From Rags to Riches in 2009 - 09:24 AM
Let's take a stroll along East Riverside Drive in Southeast Austin, Texas for a mini site-seeing tour of present-day Austin. Picture yourself walking by my side as I describe the sites, sounds, and ambiance of the area.
Our tour begins on Riverside Drive, just East of IH35, as we head towards South Lake Shore Boulevard overlooking popular Town Lake.
There aren't many homes on the street, because it's mostly a commercial corridor, but that's ok because the fumes from cars whizzing by has us lightheaded.
...the streets are a little grimy, but that's ok. I'll protect you while picking up litter along the … (4 comments)
