"So, What's the Point?" The Genius and Curse of the ActiveRain Points System - 02:58 AM
It's time once again to play our game, "Name That Guideline!" And I'm your Host, ActiveRain Community Builder Rich Jacobson!... We've been re-acquainting ourselves with the ActiveRain Community Guidelines and dissecting each one in sequential order. This week, we come to the following guideline: The point system is intended to recognize the top professionals in our industry. Do not try to game the system. Points for blogging will only be awarded for majority original content. Since the very beginning of our Network, the point system has been the source of constant debate and criticism. 8 Things You Already Do That Should be in Your Blog - 09:18 PM
by Rich Schiffer, Weichert Realtors I have talked to a lot of Realtors in my area. Because of my passion for Internet Marketing Techniques, the conversation often comes around to blogging, and how it can fit with your marketing plan. More often than I expected, the response from them is something like this: "I don't have time to write," or "I don't know what to write about." Here is what I tell them: "You are already writing what you need to have as content on your blog. The things you prepare for your clients already -- those are what you need to be

How to Set Up Domain for Outside AR Blog - 09:57 PM
As some have already noticed, Activerain recently gave the members an opportunity to have an outside blog page. This is a huge thing and an awesome idea. The best part about it, is that you can write your posts in Activerain and by just clicking one box, they are automatically added to your own personal outside blog. For the more advanced users you can purchase an outside domain name and have your outside blog point to that page. Since this release, I have seen many questions about how to set up your outside domain name, so I asked Brad if he

Mortgage Pro Week in Review -- 06/23/08 through 06/29/08 - 12:41 PM
I was genuinely honored when Jeff Belonger asked me to write this review. I read so many mortgage posts that I figured I'd be a natural for this. You'll find as many mortgage writers among my subscription list as Realtors. How that happened is easy to see - the best Mortgage Pros seem to have a way of Romancing the Realtor in me. We all know that to survive in this business, we need each other. It's a natural pairing. When Realtors and Lenders get together, we make dreams come true. We all need a little review now and then, so

Learn To Write A Superb Newsletter! News! News! News! - 10:47 AM
News! News! News! There's something about the news that we just can't get enough of. Our society has always been intrigued with what is going on in our country and the areas around us. With that being said, who could possibly pass up a newsletter full of, well, you guess it...News! Of course, it doesn't have to be dosed with your typical news. You can get creative and add market news, recipes, home tips and more. If you are having trouble deciding how to stay in touch with your sphere of influence, what better way to contact them than a newsletter.

The Evolution of the ActiveRain Blog - 04:12 AM
It's only been 4 days since the announcement of the "Outside Blog Launch" and we already have close to 1500 AR Blogs setup using the subdomain option. We are starting to see many personalized Blogs evolve using custom domain names too. Here's some samples of the near 250 that I know are "Live" now. It's only been a few days, but IMHO, it appears the launch was a success. We had a couple minor issues and glitches, but those can always be expected, especially when considering the level of participation we were counting on from our community. Thanks goes out to ALL

What it Really Means! - 10:38 AM
Deleveraging really means to get your money out before it is worthless and invest what is left into a profitable investment. Softening - means sales are not what they used to be. Bottoming - means it is crashing. Soft landing - means it is not your money at risk. Recession -means technically you still have a job. Depression - means don't believe the news, I've lost my job, home, etc... Short sale - an opportunity for the banks to firm up a price, and if you wait until next month you can buy the same home for a lot less as

LOCALISM FEATURED: Alexandria and Arlington, Virginia: "A Commuter's Dream" - 09:54 PM
Washington D.C. forms the center of gravity for employment in the region, whether it’s government jobs or private sector. Living close to the city has always been a desirable option for homebuyers in Northern Virginia. With gas prices soaring to over $4/gallon, the time and expense of commuting makes this consideration weigh even more heavily in the decision-making process about where to live. The majority of my clients want to buy a home in Alexandria or Arlington. Why? Location. Location. Location. Alexandria & Arlington – the two closest-in suburbs of Washington D.C. are the optimal spots for those working

Murray the hero of Wimbledon! - 09:55 PM
Every year at about this time, a Brit comes along at Wimbledon and achieves an unlikely victory. What follows the next day in the press is the inevitable "we're finally going to win it" headlines from media starved of tennis success for the longest time - the last male winner being Fred Perry in 1936 (I kid you not!) And so today when the only British man left in the competition - Andy Murray - found himself two sets to love down and a break down in the third, the stage was set for a long long night. There are

Active Rain Outside Blogs Custom Domain NameServers Chapter 2 - 01:23 PM
I wrote this in a comment, but figured it was important enough, I'd include it in its own post With some web host services, you are told to wait until the name "resolves" before "enabling" it ...... Here on Active Rain, my outside blog custom domain name did not "resolve" UNTIL I "enabled" it. So for anyone who is waiting for your domain name to resolve before checking the "enabled" box, Go to your Active Rain My Home page, click on Outside Blogs, Then under "Use an existing domain name (advanced!)" go back and check "enabled" now, even if the name has not yet resolved, and

Tips for moving with pets - 11:45 PM
Tips for Moving with Pets I just talked with some clients that lost their dog during their move, and thought I would share this timely information. If you are in the process of moving into a new home, you are most likely experiencing a number of mixed feelings. As it seems there is always so much to do leading up to moving day, along with the excitement of moving, life may seem very stressful for weeks - or months. Amongst all your own concerns, you should spend a few moments imagining how your pets might feel during this time. They

No Connection but Families are Safe...Both of Them - 08:21 PM
On Saturday I wrote about Joe Smith in Nebraska and how, in the middle of dealing with tornado damage and concern for his family, he took the time to let me know why I didn't have email! Today I got an update and some photos. Fortunately, the damage to his home is repairable, though they have quite a mess to clean up. Amid the damage was a precious example of new life and the ability of nature's creatures to survive. Joe had taken photos to document hail damage, and one of the shots showed a bird's next up under the

What's your neighborhood's "Walk Score"? - 07:59 AM
Here's a quick, easy way to calculate your neighborhood and your home's "walk score". Your walk score is how "walkable" your location is; that is, how quickly and easily you can walk to everyday services such as drug stores, grocery, library, restaurants, dry cleaners, etc. Visit WalkScore.com to calculate your Knoxville home's walkability index. Don Anderson, one of my fellow Realtors, crossing a creek in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, a walker/hikers paradise. We moved to a new home last year and I was delighted to find our new home's walkability was a 66 out of a possible 100

We Let Sellers Choose Their List Price - 07:55 AM
Ok....so you looked at the headline and decided we are just one more realtor that "buys listings". Let the seller choose...after all...they know the neighborhood...they know what price they "need" to pay the mortgage and buy their next home...Sellers...have you told your realtor what you need...what you want...that is great to do in terms of service....does the price you have listed match the very RECENT SOLD comparables in your area ? If it does not...you are looking for a cash buyer because a price cannot be based upon what you want, what you need or what you think

Looking for a Coach, I am. - 06:03 PM
So, what's the deal with coaching? It's like, the biggest wave to hit the real estate industry since, well, blogging. I fully comprehend the coaching value. I also understand that having a coach not only holding me accountable but directing my actions and efforts as well. I have heard the stories that coaches double, triple and quadruple coachable agent's income... Where are these coaches? Who are they? Do they have experience? How much time will they give me? Is they're service guaranteed? Obviously, I am looking for some guidance. I want referrals to coaching programs that work. I want a coach
