Akron Ohio Lost a Giant of a Man - 10:31 AM

Akron has lost a son and a great peoples politician. I wish we had this type of man serving on our behalf today. The world would be a better place.
Congressman John F. Seiberling has passed away. He was a great American hero and many of you may be benefiting from his vision and not know it.
In his 16 years in Congress, Mr. Seiberling helped draft more than 60 parks-related bills, including one that established Ohio's first national park, the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, which sits between Akron and Cleveland. His passion for preserving our great national heritage spread from … (7 comments)

Land Park Has Fast Growing Fast-Food Chains - 10:23 AM
I bring home take-out a lot, and not just because my new range and oven is sitting in my living room during the remodel. Basically, it's a time-related issue. I rarely have time to cook, especially during the week, plus my husband is the actual in-house cook. And some nights he gets home from work totally exhausted to find me sitting in front of my computer yelping about where's my dinner! So, he drives over to Broadway and brings home Pad Thai from Taste of Thai or Scallops in Lobster sauce from Fortune House.
However, I don't have the patience to … (15 comments)

Kitchen Remodel Day 12 and Day 13 - 07:18 PM

Many people don't know I wear contacts. That's because until I turned 40, I never needed vision correction. But that darn newspaper print kept getting smaller, and I could no longer read the fine print on the back of cans of paint. Oh, sure, I tried bifocals, but I don't like them. As a result, I wear monovision, with one contact lens at a plus 375 and the other is for distance at plus 125. If I'm not wearing my contacts, I do use reading glasses -- which is what I was wearing while lying in bed this morning to … (16 comments)

Las Vegas second home buying could be affected by new housing bill - 12:48 AM
The mammoth recent housing bill has gazillion provisions in it, covered in detail on about 600 plus pages of fine print. There is the potential mortgage refinance assistance for those in payment distress, there is the tax credit for first-time homebuyers who qualify and so on. Lots of material that when all of it is implemented and working in the months ahead it is expected to provide a helping layer of stability to the still wobbly mortgage and real estate markets.
One of the new stipulations touches on vacation properties and it can have an unknown effect on Las Vegas where … (10 comments)

No wonder the public has a low opinion of Realtors - 09:49 PM
I am not sure if this should be a "members only" or a public post.
I simply amazes me when agents say things such as well, "Your home didn't get shown because you listed with a "discounter."  First of all, commissions are negotiable and their is no such thing as a "standard" commission.  Having a "standard" commission is called price fixing and against the law.  Boycotting a firm because they are a "discounter" is also against the law.  Besides, how can you discount something that is negotiable?
Telling a seller that your home did not sell because of what company they listed … (4 comments)

Obama beginning to change his mind, regularly - 12:27 AM
Obama changes mind, now he'd like cheaper gasonline I guess you can chalk it up to leadership by John Mccain, and the House Republican Congress, especially our own Rep. Mike Pence from Indiana. Barack is now changing his tune ... this issue is out of the control of the Democrat spin machine and now they are backtracking. He's lost 9 points in polls in 2 weeks.
"He's Said From the Very Beginning that the Energy Policy He Formerly Espoused was Wrong.
This, really, was about as predictable as the sun rising in the east this morning:

Home Inspections - When did they come into being? - 04:31 PM
There is alot of posting about home inspections lately and since I'm originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan, I don't remember home inspections way back when ..... you know in "my day".  So now that you know that my photo is of me on one of my first days in real estate with Opa, my grandfather, you may consider me qualified for the age of the average Realtor, as per NAR's report.
All fun aside, I just read a post where the Realtor mentioned that "the home inspection was to protect the buyer".  I'm racking my brains to think when all of this … (7 comments)

Addison Eateries To Participate in KRLD Restaurant Week - 06:14 PM
Each summer, Dallas area restaurants participate in a fund raiser for the North Texas Food Bank.  The establishments offer special three-course, fixed price dinners.  This year, several Addison restaurants are opening their doors to this event:
Dinners are $35.00 per person with $7.00 from each dinner benefiting the food bank.  Beverages, tax and gratuity are additional and reservations are required.
Restaurant Week runs August 11 through August 17, and some restaurants extend their special menus through August 31.
This is a great opportunity to try some of Addison's best eateries and contribute to a great cause!

Suggestion for Plagiarism for Active Rain - 08:58 PM
I have found yet another person who thinks my information is important enough to copy - word for word - picture for - picture. It's easy for someone on the other hand to say, Plagiarism is a form of flattery. But it's not so fun when it happens to YOU!
Better yet, how about Plagiarism here on the Active Rain platform?
My SUGGESTION: Get rid of this person's membership ALL TOGETHER from Active Rain.
When you have to take the time to drive the neighborhoods, you take pictures then come back to process those photos one by one, you might … (19 comments)

Do You Feel Like You Are A Paparazzi For Active Rain/ Localism? - 10:55 PM
Many of here SERIOUS RAIN ADDICTS/ bloggers have acquired a new habit - never leave home with the CAMERA!!!! (Yes, not the credit card anymore)...
How many of you can say "Yes" to this? Say, "Me"
I'd be one of them that would say, "Me, me, me, me, me"....

Honestly, I feel like a private investigator/ a spy of some kind with my camera going "click, click, click". At some point, I feel even embarassed. If only these people know what I'm trying to do ... feeding my Rain Addiction and of course, to provide community and local … (24 comments)

St. Louis Real Estate-Market Watch August 2nd, 2008 - 02:53 PM
The Saint Louis Real Estate Market this week is in our typical "summer slow-down" with quite a few less active listings, less homes accepting contracts and a small increase in expired listings.  Our pending ratio has dropped to 14.44% from 15.02% from last week.
This "summer slow-down" is typical in August, with many people taking last minute
