Benevolence doesn't pay the bills! - 10:52 AM
I have been in the mortgage business for over seven years now. I originally got into the business to help people. I was always good with numbers, knew the mortgage process quite well and had the drive to help as many customers as I could. Working for a Mortgage Broker, I had access to programs that most banks and Lenders didn't have. I had something to offer. I worked with people that couldn't normally get approved and made them homeowners. Through Lenders who knew the risks and took them. It was something to feel good about.
Fast forward to the present. The … (4 comments)

If Unemployment Goes Up Who Is Going to Pay? - Strange Days Indeed - 10:00 AM
As John Lennon looks down from the heavens, I can't help but wonder what words thought-provoking words he would put to song for this interestng economic time.
Click on the photo to hear John Lennon's Nobody Told Me.
I watched the news last night regarding the government bail out of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae.  During an interview an economist answered questions with seriousness until asked what would happen if this doesn't work. He then broke into a smile and a nervous laugh, and without saying "we're screwed", said things are going to get worse.  (I am trying to find it online so I … (0 comments)

Geeks and Their Sexy Minds - 01:02 PM

Did you ever doodle at your desk.  I found myself playing in PAINT one day, and came up with this.  It is a little tough to do with my finger on the laptop mouse pad, but I could never draw a straight line anyway.  I hope to be able to share a few more in the future.

Investment Banks Stand to Gain From Government Bailout- CEOs of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac Earned Roughly $30 Million in Salary Last Year - 06:55 PM
I would love to know how many in government officials own preferred stock in Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae...just curious.
CEO Salaries Weather Mortgage Crisis
CEOs of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac Earned Roughly $30 Million in Salary Last Year
By JUSTIN ROODJuly 21, 2008
The chiefs of the nation's two largest mortgage lenders reaped roughly $30 million in salary, incentives and other perks last year, despite setting their banks on courses which now may require government bailouts.
 Here is an interesting paragraph:
"What worries me is the complete lack of accountability by Fannie's and Freddie's executives" and investment bankers who stand … (0 comments)

Selling Investors Condo Properties? Watch those Lending Guidelines! - 11:00 PM
Manhattan Las Vegas is a great condo project on the south strip - about 3 miles south of Mandalay Bay.  Most unit sold during the 2005 heydey at around $ 350-$00k for a 2 bedroom unit, brand new. The complex is guard gated and has a great gym, lovely grounds, and is really conveniently located with plenty of new shopping, especially the new Turnberry Towne Center Mall.

Now that we have a flurry of foreclosures, mainly due to the fact that these properties got caught in the cycle where there were no more investors … (3 comments)

Over 30!!! - 08:58 PM
If you are 30 or older you will think this is hilarious!!!
When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious diatribes about how hard things were when they were growing up; what with walking twenty-five miles to school every morning ... uphill BOTH ways
yadda, yadda,  yadda
And I remember promising myself that when I grew up, there was no way in hell I was going to lay a bunch of crap like that on kids about how hard I had it and how easy they've got it!
But now that... I'm over the … (41 comments)

Presidential Debates...What is an opinion worth... - 06:51 PM
As Realtor's we generally try to keep our comments to ourselves, but I do see a few posts on the upcoming election here on Active Rain.  I keep reading all these comments about Obama vs. McCain and of course everyone has an opinion, so I just believe I'm gonna give mine. After all that's what the men & women of our military are fighting for and what makes our country the greatest country in the world and what makes other countries so darn mad that they hate us! That's the freedom (regardless of who is right or wrong) to express ourselves!
We need a … (0 comments)

Closeout Opportunities in Park on Clear Creek - Beautiful Unique Gated League City Neighborhood - 07:55 PM
A few weeks ago I wrote a piece about this great gated neighborhood with a private boat ramp to Clear Creek.
A lot has happened in three weeks. Trendmaker Homes is beginning the closeout phase of their remaining homes in this unique community of 171 homes on 518.
Driving west on 518 from 45, you'd almost miss this neighborhood if it wasn't for the long stretch of red brick nearly covered with ivy. Exactly one mile off the freeway and you have arrived.
Trendmaker has several one stories and one two story on Creek Gate that back up to 518, so they're … (0 comments)

Searching for a Clear Lake Area Home Just Got a whole lot easier...Aerial Maps! - 08:31 PM
I've got to hand it to our local MLS board, The Houston Association of Realtors, at www.HAR.com for always finding new ways to make it easier for consumers to research homes, neighborhoods, schools and even golf courses!
They've introduced what might be their finest feature yet, the Map Search. Map Search lets you draw in a shape over an aerial view area and find specific homes within that shape. Thanks to satellite imagery and GPS, we have great ways now to quickly find properties. Its a tool that benefits the consumer and REALTORS® equally.
What's equally cool is the freeway real time traffic … (1 comments)

World Markets Respond to Freddie & Fannie Bailout - 02:53 PM
Alas, I hear the cry.............The global voices have spoken in response to the Freddie & Fannie bailout. Could it be that they were reading our blogposts and all of the attached commentary? The initial excitement has given way to a pause. There is a need to understand the American plan for economic recovery. The problem is, a comprehensive plan has yet to be designed, let alone announced.
No less important to the American people, the need for a comprehensive plan is required to stimulate all sectors of our economy. There will be no recovery in any market sector without a comprehensive … (0 comments)

Buyers -- Do You Need a Buyer's Agent? - 09:50 AM
I am assisting my nephew in buying a home in Ann Arbor.  Since I am primarily in Oakland and Wayne Counties, I wouldn't ordinarily do this and refer him to Missy Caulk.  However, I am sure he knows the area(s) he wants to live in after having been a student at U of M for four years.  He just got married in June and accepted a full time position with the University of Michigan as Systems Administrator Intermediate for the LSA Instructional Support Services Dept.  I don't know what that means - but I am very proud of him!  So, he and his wife have decided … (5 comments)
