Leipers Fork TN - How to trick or treat when homes are on 5+ acres! - 04:55 PM
When I first moved to Leipers Fork in Franklin TN, my son was only 18 months old.  We hadn't yet truly trick-or-treated with him in a "normal" neighborhood manner, and I was curious as to how we were going to trick-or-treat when all the homes around here are on 5 (or more acres).  I mean, really, we'd make it to 3 houses and have to turn around and come home.  *eye roll*  I certainly wasn't looking forward tromping across country pasture in search of candy!

Well, never fear, the Leipers Fork Merchants Association had already fixed that!  Every Halloween, the merchants shops stay … (1 comments)

Five ways to cut your heating cost in Virginia - 10:30 AM
As much as I love Northern Virginia's autumn daunting fact is winter is right around the corner. Whether we get a mild or a bad winter it never hurts to be prepared for stormy days.
If you're thinking it's time to do something about your cold house and your high heating bills, here are five win-win suggestions that will help you do both. 1. REPLACE YOUR FURNACE FILTER A clogged filter makes your furnace work harder to deliver the same amount of heat, which wastes energy by keeping the furnace on for a longer period in order to bring the house … (3 comments)

Federal Tax Credit Due to Expire - 09:44 PM
The $8,000 Federal Tax Credit for First Time Home Buyers is about to expire.  What impact has it had?  Charlotte Real Estate has done well as of lately due to two aspects of our housing market, Charlotte Foreclosures and Charlotte First Time Home Buyers.  Charlotte NC Foreclosures are going to be short lived but are providing an outstanding opportunity for the ready, willing and able Charlotte Real Estate buyer.  Yes, you must be a risk taker to take out a mortgage unnecessarily but if you can, you will be money ahead in just a few years.
The first time home buyers are … (0 comments)

Closing Points, Origination Points, Discount Points ... What are points? - 10:38 PM
"I'm not paying any points!"
Well, okay then. I guess you're paying cash because everybody who borrows money from a broker, lender or bank (regardless of their misleading advertisement) pays points. Simply defined the word points means a percentage. What they are a percentage of is the next question. And, in this case, they are a percentage of the loan amount.
For example if we are talking about $100,000 and we say "one point" we mean "one percent" or $1,000 (one thousand dollars). If we say "two points" we mean "two percent" or $2,000 (two thousand dollars).
Since we know what … (35 comments)

Westerville's history - 07:42 AM
I was trying to find something about Westerville's history and ended up on the Westerville Libraries website.
Westerville has such an interesting history, the Underground Railroad, the temperance movement and the Whisky Wars including the Anti-Saloon League...
Sometimes I think Westerville has a much more colorful history in many ways than some of it's Central Ohio neighbors.
What I was looking for about Westerville was....  I was thinking  Westerville was having a birthday.  I keep thinking that Dublin and Westerville are the same age....  I thought Worthington was settled in 1803 and Dublin and Westerville were settled in 1810.  I was … (0 comments)

Westerville's Anti-Saloon League - 09:30 AM
Westerville's Anti-Saloon League was active from the 1890's to the early 1930's.
Westerville in Franklin County was the home of the Ohio Anti-Saloon League originally.  If I understand the history of the temperance movement there was a national Anti-Saloon League in Washington D.C. but they moved their national head quarters to Westerville Ohio in 1909.
On the Anti-Saloon League website it says:
"They used local churches as the vehicles to carry their message to the people and solicit the funds to run the attack on the nation's saloons."
Westerville was connected to Columbus by a plank road... maybe there were paved … (0 comments)

I Can’t Believe That Broker Said That! (Rant) - 06:16 PM
Oh, I am so sorry…I thought when I worked, I was making a living for me and my family! I didn’t realize I was supposed to make your living too!
Something a Broker of another office said in front of me, still chaps my “Arss”! And… the Agents in that office… are tired of hearing it too! (Hey…we talk!) But, I have a suspicion (okay, I know!) that he isn’t the only Broker feeling that way.
Okay, if you are licensed Agent…you have to hang your license with a Broker somewhere. Last I seen, the national average was $15,000 that an … (16 comments)
