Thankfully for rate shoppers, the overall momentum was positive.
Mortgage rates fell for the second time in as many weeks. Rates still sit higher versus their early-October lows.
For pure "news", last week was a busy one:
The Federal Reserve held the Fed Funds Rate near 0.000 percent The Unemployment Rate crossed 10 percent The First-Time Home Buyer Tax Credit was extended to April 2010 Combined, the 3 events reinforced the growing belief on Wall Street that the U.S. economy is in recovery, but not yet … (3 comments)

Mortgage Update - buying a home, mortgage loans, referral thank you! - 06:34 PM
Our town newspaper has a logo 'tis a priveledge to live in the Ozarks, and having been born in this area I can honestly say that is true. I have lived all over the globe growing up with my father in the military, dad retired in 1985 and we headed back home to Springfield.   When you change schools 16 times in 18 years seeing the East coast, living on military bases and living in foreign countries with buildings predating our nations founding in 1776 it gives you a unique perspective on just how young America is but it also makes you appreciate your own home town.

Droid Phone - Finally Some iPhone Competition - 01:29 AM
I just got a look at the new Motorola Droid phone available through Verizon.  The much hailed device was released to the public on November 6, 2009 and my son, who works at a Verizon retailer, was one of the first in our area to get one.  Naturally, dad had to spend a few minutes playing around with it just to "see if I need one"!  I think there is one of these in the near future, as I recently signed a 2 year contract with Verizon so buying an iPhone and signing up for another cellular service would not be … (4 comments)

Mises vs. Keynes. After 70 years of Keynes, It's Time for Some Real Change - 03:17 PM
The Wall Street Journal has an opinion piece today about Ludwig von Mises.  It is well worth the read and then it would be well worth the effort to do a little more research on Mises and his Austrian school of economics.
I'm sure most people have heard of John Maynard Keynes.  He's the "brilliant" economist who is the father of the government stimulus.
...along came John Maynard Keynes's tome "The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money" in 1936. Keynes was dapper, fresh and sophisticated. He even wrote in English! And the guy had chutzpah, fearlessly fighting the battle against … (2 comments)

Tick Alert in Central Massachusetts - 06:39 AM
Tick Alert in Central Massachusetts

This past weekend, after spending time in the woods and cleaning up the yard, both my husband and son found ticks on themselves.  These little bugs carry and transmit Lyme Disease, which can cause severe neurological damage if not treated.  If you find a tick on your body, contact your physician.  Often, a person with a tick bite can be treated with a prophylactic course of antibiotic to prevent the development of Lyme Disease.
Ticks love wet leaves.  So if you are out in the woods the next couple of weeks, please be sure to … (0 comments)

Composting Works!

Composting is an effective and natural way to turn yard trimmings such as leaves and grass clippings into a beneficial soil conditioner for your lawn and garden. Using compost on your lawn and in your garden replenishes essential nutrients in the soil without using commercial fertilizers that can be potentially harmful to the environment.

Here are some guidelines to follow for effective composting:
Use a compost Bin Place a mixture of leaves and grass clippings into your compost bin. A three-to-one mix of carbon to nitrogen materials works the best. Keep your compost pile moist throughout … (4 comments)

Make sure your florist gets your flower deliveries right. - 05:26 PM
A client bought a new home and the broker sent flowers for the occasion.
The flowers arrived at the home and the owner read the card; it said "Rest in Peace".
The owner was angry and called the florist to complain.
After he had told the florist of the obvious mistake and how angry he was, the florist said, "Sir, I'm really sorry for the mistake, but rather than getting angry you should imagine this: somewhere there is a funeral taking place today, and they have flowers with a note saying, "Congratulations on your new home".
