Text Messaging Lured My Daughter to Danger! CAUTION TO EVERYONE - 09:00 AM
If you have kids or work in a business that clients text you, please read this story below by Sarah Moore in NC. Talk about this with your children that text their friends. It pays to be careful in this crazy world.

Via Sarah Moore (RE/MAX SIGNATURE PROPERTIES):

Today, everyone has a mobile phone.  If you are like most, you LOVE TO TEXT!  I will admit that I had not really enjoyed texting until this past year but found out convenient it is!
My teenager daughter texts all the time, to my frustration!   Recently her phone stopped working and we … (10 comments)

Cement Admixtures - 02:00 PM
Admixtures are ingredients other than water, aggregate and Portland cement that are added to a concrete mixture immediately prior to or during mixing.  These ingredients can be used to modify the properties of concrete by affecting the cement's workability and set time, compensating for the effects of temperature during curing, ensuring the quality of the concrete during mixing, transport and placing, and even for adding pigment.
The use of cement admixtures is fairly standard for both residential and commercial builds.  While admixtures provide benefits and solve problems when properly utilized, they may also contribute to defects if applied improperly. … (0 comments)

What Were They Thinking? - 08:15 AM
Please help me understand what happened last week.
A home that has been on the market since June '10 with no offers to buy is located next door to my sister-in-law and her parents (my mother and father-in-law) look at it and want to buy it.
The real estate salesperson listing the house used to refer me, occasionally, but did not like my higher fees.  I also have reason to believe that she is unhappy over the fact that more than one of her referrals decided not to buy after reading the inspection report.
The asking price was $90,000 for a … (60 comments)

The 'For Sale' Sign Just Got Better - 10:01 AM
The 'For Sale' sign on the lawn of a property is still alive and well and continues to serve a purpose . . . letting others know the property is for sale.  In fact, buyers still continue to find properties of interest by these signs and continue to take drives to look for them in an area of interest.  But the sign has always had a huge barrier . . . the lack of information.  You basically get 3 bits of information from the sign:
That the property is for sale The company and agent the property is listed with A … (9 comments)

Does your buyer not fit in the banks square box? - 09:24 PM
Do you have a buyer that in early on in the "boom" would have been easy to qualify and close escrow on them. But now days your favorite banker has said no way. But your clients are good people with a good income and a down payment. The flaw if the credit score. Most banks require a 640 credit score for FHA loans regardless of the down-payment. With all of the sub prime problems banks are less likly to make loans to borrowers with lower than normal credit scores. FHA has no set fico score but they do allow banks to set a credit score they … (0 comments)

"Snowbirds" Flocking Back to Zephyrhills, Florida for the 2010-11 Winter Season - 08:26 PM
As regular as the sunrises in the east, a major wave of arrivals from the north has begun. This always happens just after Thanksgiving. Many "snowbirds" like to celebrate that holiday with their families up north.
But there is now "frost on the pumpkins" and the trees have dropped their leaves. That tells our winter residents it is time to  head south to warmer climes and sunnier days. We are ready for them!
People like to winter in Zephyrhills because here it is not like going to a resort with a lot of strangers, but it is more like "coming home … (2 comments)

David Lanz Benefit Concert (Bellingham, WA) December 12th - 04:58 PM
Back a month ago, I wrote an article stating that, from what I could tell,  David Lanz, the Grammy nominated and best selling pianist who lives in Bellingham, would not be doing a local Christmas-time performance this year.

Good news for locals: Recently it was announced that Lanz will be performing a benefit at the local, intimate music venue, the Amadeus Project, on December 12, a Sunday. There will be two shows, one at 3pm and another at 7pm. For tickets visit: wwwdavidlanz.com.
You can almost be assured that David will play, along with holiday favorites, his best selling and … (5 comments)

Van Wingerden Garden Center, Blaine, WA - 05:47 PM
In my family, right after Thanksgiving, it has become a tradition to drive from here in Bellingham a few miles north to Blaine, right under the Canadian border, and buy poinsettias. Van Wingerden Garden Center has a bright and beautiful retail outlet at 8210 Portal Way in Blaine.

The link to Van Wingerden's is here: Van Wingerden's website.
Below is a tree made of poinsettias.

And here are a couple shots of the beautiful poinsettias that are yours to take home. Choose carefully because there are many varieties.

A Vote for the Christmas Spirit - 07:10 PM
Now if this story doesn't bring you into the Christmas Spirit, there is little hope for you.
Organized by AlphabetPhotography.com, a 100 member choir (flash mob) infiltrated the food court of a Canadian shopping mall on November 13, 2010.  To the delight of surprised shoppers, the group gave a splendid rendition of the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel's Messiah (originally composed in 1741, lyrics from The Bible, possibly the most famous piece of Western Choral music).
This is a very special video (about 5 minutes) which has been viewed by more than two million viewers on You-Tube.com.
I wish you all a … (7 comments)

These 2 Words On the White Board Sent My Career Over A Cliff - 02:57 PM
Our owner began the sales meeting by speaking not a single word. Instead he turned, walked to the front of the room, picked up a red marker, and wrote these 2 words:
"I Quit"
It is one of those moments you never forget because it transformed us into a room of shell shocked zombies. Our office would be closed, and the company would then "merge" with the home office.
All in a span of only 3 weeks.
It was assumed by everyone that we would be going to the home office keeping our cozy little mortgage family together (at a different … (0 comments)

Come on now!! Duck tape? Get real! - 09:18 PM
Having your home checked for safety issues is the best ideal after deciding to purchase a home.  As a Stockton, CA Real Estate Agentl, I always advise my buyers to have a home inspection.  Most will agree but some just don't want to give up the money to get the inspection.  I have them sign a waiver but not before I give them the "you really should reconsider" and have the inspection.  I know you will be glad you did, the moment something goes wrong in your new home!
I explain the "waiver" is to protect me and the others involved … (11 comments)

Advice for Homebuyers - The List Price is Negotiable. The Property Taxes Are Not. - 09:26 PM
This is good information.  Sometimes you can negotiate the sales price AND WIN!  Remember to factor in your taxes and your home insurance payments.  Suddenly an $800 a month payment turns into $1100 or more per month when you factor in the escrow payment.  This is good information to be aware of when purchasing a home and don't let it be a "deal killer" because you did not know! ** thank you Peggy Chirico.
