It's Greek to.... - 09:59 AM
Bail outs are taking a whole different meaning in today's world.  A few short years ago bail out meant contacting Dennis, the bail bondsman to borrow money to get my irresponsible brother out of jail.    Now 15 members of the Euro Zone have gotten the call to bail out their financially reckless sister, Greece.   So why would they bother?
The same reason I bailed out my brother.   He never paid back the thousands of dollars he borrowed through the years.   Greece already owes a ton of money to many members of the EU. The other countries need to protect their investment. … (1 comments)

Are You a Jammie Pants Home Seller? Dressing your HOME for Success! - 09:32 AM
This was such an entertaining, but oh so true, blog from one of my best "virtual" friends, Mary Douglas, in Red Feather Lakes Colorado, that I wanted to share it here for everyone in North Carolina.
The point is to not only Dress for Success, but to Dress your HOME for success too. (and sell it faster!).

Via Mary Douglas, REALTOR ®, Red Feather Lakes, Colorado (United Country Ponderosa Realty):
I'll admit I love my flannel  jammie  pants, they are very comfy; but when I'm going out, they certainly stay at home and I am dressed.
Yesterday, when I went grocery … (5 comments)

ActiveRain Has its 1st Million Point Member! - 08:08 PM
ActiveRain Has its 1st Million Point Member!

OK, I'm just kidding. I'm really not even close to a million points! But some of your friends here in the Rain are. And, in a very short time, a few of them will become the 1st million point members here in the Rain. Will it be Todd Clark of Beaverton, OR, who is currently sitting on 933,850 points? Will it be Lenn Harley of Rockville, MD, with her 899,232 points?
Will it be you?
It's going to happen. And very soon too.
I wonder what plans the good folks … (37 comments)

Fun with Appraisals - 09:36 PM
The definition of "property appraisal" from Investor Words: A professional opinion, usually written, of the market value of a property, such as a home, business, or other asset whose market price is not easily determined.
Suppose Zsa Zsa Gabor comes upon hard times and must sell her diamond ring.  She goes to the jeweler she has used for a century (sorry, Zsa Zsa).  He writes her up an appraisal on his letterhead that he'll stake his reputation that Zsa Zsa's ring is worth one million dollars.  However, surprise of surprises, he won't buy the ring from Ms. Gabor at any price.  Poor old … (24 comments)

Your Tax Accountant Stratches His Head, Leans Back, Stretches. Your Income Is Big. - 09:42 AM
You see a lot of money come in, go out. Go thru your fingers like designer water. Where you live in a city, urban area the money is good but where did it go? Do you feel like you "live in a sieve"? At the end of the year, when you huddle over a desk with the bean counter with a calculator whirling and your box of financial records, receipts and statements, you remember the same feeling from last year right about now. Your taxes and the lifestyle, the spending, the bracket you are in income wise can be a sobering … (2 comments)

Color is the answer if you want your home to be inviting! - 08:39 PM
If you want a home to be inviting, color is the answer!
Once your home is on the market, prospective buyers will be going through the rooms quickly.
Often there is no natural light.  You may need a warm, saturated color to give your spaces some depth and character.
Don't be afraid to use blue-it is the color of the sky and the ocean!
Don't be afraid to use brown-it is the color of chocolate!
Don't be afraid to use green- it is the color of trees!
Don't be afraid to use yellow- it is the color of sunshine!!

Realtors To The Rescue-Lifting Up Communities-CDPE Help Hold Up Property Values - 08:45 PM
Realtors To The Rescue-Lifting Up Communities Sunday, 06 September 2009 00:00 The Coloradoan By Pat Ferrier September 6, 2009 http://www.coloradoan.com/article/20090906/BUSINESS/909060327/1046 Homes in distress often are easy to spot: lawns brown and brittle, flowers dead from lack of water, curtains drawn tight. Realtors Taylor Grant and Jimmy Stewart pick them out easily as they walk through Waterglen neighborhood on an overcast Monday afternoon. They knock on every door just the same. The two real estate agents - certified distressed property experts - go door-to-door at least once a week in at-risk neighborhoods spreading information about the personal and community impact of foreclosures. … (0 comments)

Davey Jones of the Monkees Performed at The Mill in Coos Bay - 11:13 PM
Davey Jones of the Monkees performed at The Mill Casino in Coos Bay last night.
What a great time.  I wasn't all that excited to go, in fact a friend gave me her tickets because she had an emergency. My husband and I decided it would be a nice diversion and there's a Macy's in Coos Bay.  I live 2 hours from the nearest Macy's, so any chance I get to visit one, I take it.
We drove up to Coos Bay, 2.5 hours north on Highway 101, last night and got there in time to check in, drink a few glasses … (7 comments)

Do You Know Where Your Swamp Buggy Is? - 09:26 AM
Swamp Buggy racing is a local sport that has gathered National attention.  These racers are out there toughing it in January, March and October.  There really is no other purpose engineered vehicle that can match a swamp buggy's raison d'etre.  Maybe an old Amphicar could survive the environment but it would be difficult to get spectators to want to return to the event year after year.  The original swamp buggy was dreamt up by some good ole' local boys almost a half century ago simply to be able to get from point A to point B, with some sense of reliability, through the Everglades.  … (6 comments)

Can a Townhome Without a Bathroom on the Main Level Sell? - 08:00 AM
Yes.  But, you have to demonstrate its value over its flaws.  Easiest way to do that?  Put a pretty face on it.  Suddently, it bears consideration, and, oh, it has a fantastic location? And it has...? And...? And it's SOLD.  You just have to get it some serious consideration is all.  That's one of the great benefits of Home Staging!
First, someone camping out in it won't help buyers want it.        But, updating lighting and staging will bring out its potential.

If ony it were as easy to rejuvenate a person as it is to bring a home back up to speed!  This luxury 1990 home hadn't seen updates in its whole life.  To sell, it needed some and of course at least Key Room Staging.

A Study of Coastal NC Real Estate Market Trends - 06:52 AM
We are beginning a brand new year in our real estate market that we're really excited about! In January, we completed our business plan for 2010 and studied our market "seasonality" to find out how much business is done in each quarter of the year. Here is what we found for our Southeast Coastal NC Market:
18 % of the year's business is done in the 1st Quarter (January-March).
28% was done in the 2nd Quarter (April-June).
31% was done in the 3rd Quarter (July- Sept.).
13% was done in the 4th Quarter (Oct.-Dec.).
Since our market (Wilmington, Hampstead, Topsail Island … (1 comments)
