MAY 2010 RESALE HOUSING STATISTICS - 10:16 PM
Greater Toronto REALTORS® reported 4,887 sales through the Multiple Listing Service® (MLS®) during the first two weeks of May.
This represented a seven per cent increase compared to the 4,561 sales recorded during the same period in 2009. New listings increased by 48 per cent annually to 10,059.
"The average household looking to purchase a home continued to benefit from affordable opportunities in the first half of May," said Toronto Real Estate Board President Tom Lebour.
"The number of done deals will remain high for the remainder of 2010, but will dip from record levels."

For the first four months of 2010, the average selling price for central Las Vegas homes is up 0.79%, while the median selling price has risen 4.17%. The number of central Las Vegas homes sold is up 5.7% year-over-year.

The median selling price increased 6.25%. For the first four months of 2010, the average selling price for east Las Vegas homes is up 10.74%, while the median selling price has risen 12.58%. The number of east Las Vegas homes sold is down 16.7% year-over-year.

Homes in North Las Vegas saw average selling prices rise 8.49% in April. The median selling price rose 4.00%. For the first four months of 2010, the average selling price for North Las Vegas homes is up 5.34%, while the median selling price has risen 1.56%. The number of North Las Vegas homes sold is even year-over-year with 2,366 sales in 2010 versus 2,371 in 2009.

Mortgage Fraud Ring- Branch Managers, Banker, Closing Attorney- Faces up to 30 years in prison - 11:28 AM
Former Boca Raton Mortgage Managers plead guilty for falsifying loan documents
It was alleged that Peter Hartofilis and Jason Vitulano were branch managers of the Top Dot Mortgage office in Boca Raton, Florida, and devised a scheme to submit fraudulent loan applications to numerous lenders. More specifically, the loan applications contained grossly inflated statements of the applicants' earnings and assets on deposit in a local bank.
In addition, according to court documents and statements made in court, attorney Joseph Miller acted as closing agent and title agent on a number of these loan transactions. Miller agreed to divert loan proceeds to … (2 comments)

A Memorial Day Tribute to Unsung Heroes - 09:26 PM
When Memorial Day rolls around each year, I can't help thinking about my dad's experience as a World War II POW at Stalagluft III.  (Yes, that was the site of the famous "Great Escape" and it occurred while he was there, but he didn't participate in it directly.)  We didn't talk much about those two years, but he never let us forget that five crew members on his B-17 bomber didn't live to become POWs.  In that sense, he felt he was one of the "lucky" ones.

NEWEST FNMA (FANNIE MAE) CHANGE - WATCH OUT - 02:13 AM
 

 
Effective June 1, 2010 Fannie Mae (FNMA) is requiring that all Conventional mortgage loan lenders determine that all debts of the borrower incurred or closed up to and concurrent with the closing of the subject mortgage are disclosed on the final application and included in the qualification determination for the subject loan.
This change has come about because FNMA has determined that debt not claimed or shown on the mortgage loan application is the third most frequent cause of default.

On the evening of May 21, 2010, 21 different chili contestants took part in the New London Rotary Foundation Springfest at The Beach 2010 Chili Cook Off.
There was a Judge's category and a People's Choice category.  For the Judge's category there were four cash prizes for the top four chili entries.  The winners were as follows:

Relocation Can Cause Quite a Buzz  

Sometimes relocation can cause quite a buzz, figuratively AND literally. 
In this case we are talking about a true buzz...due to the relocation, in process, of thousands of bees in my back yard. 
I was on the phone today and heard a loud humming sound. When I looked out into the back yard outside the kitchen/family room I saw a huge swarm of bees. After 15 minutes or so they all settled down...into what I truly hope is not their new home.

Today I took a drive down to the Hudson River in Rhinecliff NY and I could not believe the number of sailboats on the water.  Memorial Day weekend is certainly the kickoff to that summer season of fun.
