Tonight, I am posting my Sunday post on Saturday as I just read an article about George Beverly Shea "America's Beloved Gospel Singer".  He will be 102 next month.  I had no idea that he was still with us and when I saw the photo of him with Billy Graham in the Suntimes today, I was just floored that this man lived here in Chicago.  He was a graduate of Wheaton College and served as a pastor in Western Springs, Illinois.

Winter Weather & Animals - Let's Keep Them Safe! - 06:33 PM
Just a friendly reminder to my animal friends, let's keep our animals safe during these cold winter weather months. Even though dogs have fur coats, freezing temperatures can cause frostbite from exposure. Short-haired dogs appreciate a warm sweater or coat when going outdoors, especially for a brisk walk. Puppies and Kittens do not fair well being left outdoors, neither do elderly animals when the weather turns frigid cold. Be considerate and caring to our furry friends and pets.

One of the better and more interesting books I've read in recent years was "Everything Bad is Good for You" by Steven Johnson.  This past week, I finished reading another of Johnson's works, "Mind Wide Open: Your Brain and the Neuroscience of Everyday Life".

Don and I have some elderly relatives that function quite well on their own in terms of driving and tending to most things in their lives. 
They refused to buy a cell phone.  We finally decided that it was the unknown of obtaining one etc that was the hold-up so about 5 years ago, we bought a pre-paid phone for them.  We thought that was a good way to find out if they were adverse to carrying one or just uncomfortable taking care of the paperwork etc.
