Earthquake Strap: A metal strap used to secure gas hot water heaters to the framing or foundation of a house. It is intended to reduce the chances of having the water heater fall over in an earthquake and causing a gas leak.
Easement: A formal contract which allows a party to use another party's property for a specific purpose, e.g. a sewer easement might allow one party to run a sewer line through a neighbor's property.

San Diego County home prices up again
The recently released S&P/Case-Shiller Home Price Index reports that home prices in San Deigo County were up in July 2011 for the fourth consecutive month.
The Case-Shiller report doesn't actually provide prices but is truly an index with the base value set at 100 for January 2000.
In July 2011 the index for San Diego County was at 155.22, up .1% over June. That means that if you paid, say, $100,000 for a condo in January 2000, it would now be worth $155,220. That's a nice ten-year profit, even after the price declines … (4 comments)

Dear Guinness Book of World Records, I'm Stuck Again... - 04:24 PM
I believe I could easily make the Guinness Book of World Records for "getting the car stuck". My serious weakness is curbs, culverts, curbs, and occasionally mud but with the drought I have to stick to the curb thing. . I have had clients with me on many of the occasions of having to be towed out of culverts.

Real Estate Sign Riders: Yes or No? - 06:11 PM

You can drive down almost any residential street in your town and you'll see 'For Sale' signs ~ sometimes multiple signs on the same street.  Since I'm a real estate stager in Portland OR I'm often visiting homes in many neighborhoods to meet a potential homeowner or Realtor client.  I'm curious about some of the sign riders attached to 'For Sale' signs and want to ask the Realtor community:
DO THESE SIGNS REALLY HELP TO PROMOTE A PROPERTY?   ARE THEY A POSITIVE REFLECTION?
This sign rider seems to imply that the outside of the house isn't gorgeous is UGLY:
