Is real estate for the birds? - 01:46 AM

In my humble opinion, I don’t think real estate is for the birds at all. I think everyone should have the chance to own a home and there is no better time than right now. We are seeing prices we haven’t seen in Portland since 2005, we are just waiting for these historically low interest rates to climb, so don’t wait.

Did you know that a ½ percent hike in interest rates would take more than a $10,000 price cut in home prices to equal the same house payments per month? Price isn’t everything, because what you are saving … (10 comments)

It maybe raining, but when it rains it pours. (Pours a great deal that is!) - 02:27 PM

In Beaverton over the past month it has rained and rained a lot! The fact is we had 30 days in a row of rain and that took a toll on real estate. HOW? Well, it seems buyers wanted to stay in and not look at homes. Were they afraid they were going to melt if they got wet? Who knows!

But, for the buyers who did venture out, they were able to find some great deals. WHY? The main reason is sellers were noticing less activity as well and because of that they were considering offers they wouldn’t … (13 comments)

"I'll never make it. I'll never get there. I started too late, these folks have been at this so much longer."

Well, poohy (technical term).

My Three Gold Stars... - 10:45 AM
My Three Gold Stars... For those of you who haven't seen it, Craig Daniels, blogger extraordinaire and author of "Craig's Classroom",  hosted a little challenge last week, "The Gold Star Challenge". The premise of the challenge was to highlight three bloggers here in the Rain, that if you had to start all over, you would add back to your list of subscriptions. Well, my dear readers, the challenge is over and I didn't post a blog! I just couldn't narrow it down to three. Many of you who I subscribe to are just too good to leave off my list. So … (32 comments)

In The Early 1980's The Large Older Farmers Home Administration Homes, Real Estate Was A Hot Item. - 10:49 AM
Homes over 1400 square feet in the Maine Farmers Home Administration were being kicked out of the loan program 30 years ago when ever a real estate buyer stubbed their financial toe.
Surrendering, handing over  the Maine house keys that were rarely used any way in the 4th lowest crime state to lock up the place.
And often those very easy Maine homes to buy after foreclosure with 10% down and low prices like $12,500, $14,900 and $18,500 represented great values.
Because of the emphasis on insulation, updates from top to bottom when the FmHA real estate buyer made the purchase.

The Property In Maine Asked About Just SOLD But New Real Estate Buyer Wants To Know More About It. - 06:08 PM
I always used to wonder why if a property just closed today, that the real estate listing in Maine was still of interest to a buyer who missed out.  Coming in as the real estate movie is getting out, who calls the day it happens.
Sometimes when you tell a Maine real estate buyer a property listing is under contract, it can seem to light a fire.
And they suddenly often want it even more.
They beat themselves up that they should have gotten on the horse and done something about it after the intial video, information was sent to them.

Secrets of the "elevator pitch"-- how to tell your story inside a minute - 02:11 PM
The elevator pitch, or EP, describes what you do or tells a short story about your product, service or business experience. The goal is to get someone interested in hiring you or otherwise helping your business. You should be able to deliver an EP in the time it takes for an average elevator ride--30 to 60 seconds or the length of most TV commercials. An EP is perfect for when you and your target are in a captive environment--in an elevator, in line or at a conference or networking event. The goal is to get the person to want to learn more … (0 comments)

Herndon Reston Transmission and Powertrain - 07:05 AM
I love to support my local small business people and so I wanted to tell you about Herndon Reston Transmission.
Located at 595 Grove Street in Herndon, VA 20170, just across from the Herndon Post Office, is a wonderful family-owned place to take your vehicle. My brother recommended that I go there when I was looking for some help with an unusual problem with my car. They were so helpful, took the time to talk with me, and fixed me right up! I am the one in our family that does most of the car maintenance,  and it is has not … (0 comments)

Reconsider Homeownership? - 09:19 AM

There was an article in USAA's Spring issue where the writer offered tips for readers.  One of the tips listed was to "reconsider homeownership" due to the condition of the current real estate market. Although no one knows exactly what the future holds for home prices in 2011, there are still many good reasons to buy. I'm not saying every renter should go out and buy a home but it is a good time to purchase property for many who are considering it.
Yes, home prices are lower than they have been in many years but that can be a … (2 comments)

The Key comes with a warning… - 08:46 PM
You are so excited to get those keys to your new home but Charles brings to light the first thing you need to do with those keys is to get them re-keyed.  It is inexpensive to do and will give you peace of mind as you have no idea who has had access to those keys.
Via Charlottesville Real Estate Solutions (Charles McDonald):
OK, so I am using the title of this post to make a point. I just closed on a home in Charlottesville and one of the first things that I discuss with my clients is the locks. You see a … (15 comments)

Do not choose your real estate agent based upon their commission or fees! - 09:52 PM
Do you select a Dentist because he is the cheapest? Do you opt for the discount meat when you go to the butcher? Would you rate a cardiologist by his fees? Here are just some examples of when a consumer does NOT look for the cheapest options or haggle with the price. When you make the decision to sell your home find the listing agent who has the best marketing plan, the most advanced strategies and who can show you results.
Do not choose your real estate agent based upon their commission or fees!
