But I want it! I'm sorry you can't have it...... - 06:22 PM
But I want it....I'm sorry you can't have it.......but I really want it........I'm sorry you can't have it......etc.etc. etc.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? It seems many of us have been hearing this a lot lately from buyers who are disappointed or upset because for some reason they are unable to get the property they wanted.  Maybe it has sold or maybe the appraisal came in too low.  Perhaps the lender denied the loan or the seller chose another offer over theirs. They end up angry at us and blame us because they couldn't have what they wanted.  It has to be someone's … (21 comments)

What Color is your front door? - 04:30 PM

What color is your front door?
Your front door is the first thing people see when they come to your home.  It is also the first thing prospective buyers see when it is time to sell.  The color you choose for your front door says something about you and your home-- and can reveal things you may not realize!
What is your front door saying about you?

Here's what a color psychologist might say about the most common front door colors:
Blue: Studies often show blue is the most popular color. A blue front door indicates the … (60 comments)

I found you on the Internet . . . - 05:27 PM
The storms in Winchester, VA, have caused a lot of damage.  In some cases, it has been more damage than many long time residents have ever seen.  July 4th was no different.  On July 4th, I received a call from a distressed business owner.  It was 11:00 pm.  I always get a tad nervous when a call comes in at that hour, but this time, it was a good thing.
A direct lightening strike had damaged the electrical meter on this company's three phase meter.  When I arrived Thursday morning, I was even surprised at what I found.  The strike … (36 comments)

Helping a New Rainer, Pay it Forward - 12:42 PM
Helping a New Rainer, Pay It Forward

Helping a New Rainer, Pay It Forward was more fun than I expected. I had a fellow Realtor/Friend accept my invitation to join ActiveRain. Part of my coercion was that I had promised her a startup session and we had it this week. Getting started immediately is so important because if you don’t, it really is hard to get back to it.

We started from the very beginning at setting up her Profile section and Bio section. I learned so much when I did mine a few months ago but most of it was … (66 comments)

My new lap top sticker...I already got a lead from it - 02:31 AM
Finally...I got the new sticker for my lap top...with my new The Flooring Girl logo.  I hope you like it.  I've had it now for close to 2 weeks.

As many of you know, I spend a lot of time in Starbucks in between appointments.  It's a convenient place to get my estimates done while enjoying some nice coffee and relaxation time.

Today, I was at the Starbucks in Larchmont, a town where I tend to have a lot of success.  As I got up to leave, I must have knocked something over and the guy next to me … (96 comments)

Max Headroom Or Minimum Headroom - Which Would YOU Want? - 03:07 AM
So, take your pick, Max Headroom or minimum headroom - which would YOU want?
This is a flip.  A previous, small house was razed in favor of a large, expensive house.
Everything was made newer and larger - from the foundation to the roof.  Pulling up to it, from the street, it gives every appearance of being a wonderful house!
After spending many hours there one fine day, there are many, many things that make themselves obvious that much of the house was put together by people who are not professionals in the trade they worked on.  Name your system - … (44 comments)

Entries That Blow Your Mind Without Blowing Your Budget - 02:44 PM

Entries that Blow Your Mind without Blowing your Budget

One key to a beautiful Southern Home is the Entrance – you want a Beautiful Entrance that doesn’t blow the budget!
Now I often tell my clients that the Entrance to their home is where they should spend some money.  You get a good aesthetic return on that money.  But lately, while driving through neighborhoods,  I’ve encountered several homes where the money spent on the front door is grossly out of proportion to the rest of the house and has given little in return.  This house below is an example.  … (14 comments)

Did you know you might lose your Internet Monday July 9th, 2012 - 12:11 AM
Did you know you might lose your Internet Monday July 9th, 2012?
I was watching the news last night, an occurrence that is becoming rare since I do not like to be bombarded with bad news. Well long and behold I have my attention the News Caster states that the Internet on my computer might be shut down.
Armed with this information I went and searched and discovered that  tens of thousands of Americans may still lose their Internet service Monday unless they do a quick check of their computers for the DNSChanger malware that could have taken over their machines … (52 comments)

Pesky Neighbors To The Left of Me, Smokers To The Right, Here I Am Stuck In The Middle Of You - 12:06 PM

Pesky Neighbors To The Left of Me, Smokers To The Right, Here I Am Stuck In The Middle Of You
You finally move into your new home in the Portland Metro area, and can't wait for that first Saturday morning where you get to sit out and enjoy that warm cup of coffee on your private deck. When you first saw the home, your vision of lounging in a chair, the sun warming your body as you peruse the paper called you. So peaceful, so relaxing...oh the backyard oasis would be perfect!
What you didn't expect though, was the … (52 comments)

Bogged down with stuff for which you don't need your license? - 11:05 PM
It is my belief that we, the real estate professionals, should do what we are licensed to do: assist buyers and sellers with their real estate needs.
"Needs" is what boggs us down. Everyone has their own interpretention as to how FAR we should go with that.
Is it that we should give clients a helping hand moving? Clean their place up at the 11th hour? Hold their hand while they are picking out carpeting/paint/appliances or watch their kids/dogs/relatives? Yes, that makes us more HUMAN, but does this BOG US DOWN and take too much of our time to give the real estate service for which we … (22 comments)

Battleship Texas Now Open. Lots of Cool Pictures! - 02:51 PM
The Battleship Texas reopened for visitors today. Multiple leaks allowed more than 100,000 gallons of water on the nearly 100 year old vessel. I was fortunate enough to visit her in person when I was a kid back in the late 70's.

Texas was designated a National Historic Mechanical Engineering Landmark in 1975, and a National Historic Landmark by the National Park Service in 1976.

The on board repair from the leaks continues today. Here's a picture of some of the local patchwork. Keep in mind the Battleship Texas is only one of seven Museum ships, it's also the … (25 comments)

Marketing Fail - 04:14 PM
So, yesterday, as I was sitting at my desk selling houses, my phone rang. It was a gentleman who wanted to sell his house (coincidence? I think not).
We chatted for a while, and I discovered the following:
He needed to sell his home due to a relocation He called through the office phone He didn't know my name and, from a quick glance at my calendar, I noticed I was on floor duty He was, in fact, a rare bird come to roost. He was....wait for it....a floor call!
Now, don't get me wrong - I'll take business pretty … (57 comments)

Why I Am Singing IN, and ABOUT the Rain! - 11:34 AM
I'm not a high-visibility gal here in AR...which is kinda okay.
Yes-have a great circle of solid online pals, and am having a blast on our AR Baseball Junkies fantasy baseball league...but I joined primarily to get a better understanding of the challenges, and thought processes of smart agents, so I could better focus/polish my written voice and grow my business.
In recent months time constraints have left me less time to comment and interact, but I cruise through and read when I can.
At the end of May I happened across Anna 'Banana' Kruchten's post on the Contest Group, the challenge was to write a … (44 comments)

Columbus Weathered the Storm - 12:19 PM

Columbus was hit by a storm a week ago Friday.  The storm came through about 5:00 P.M. on Friday June 29, 2012.  We've had a little bit of stormy weather since.  The storm last Friday was a Derecho.
The photo above was taken in Delaware County in the Lewis Center area along Route 23 (Columbus Pike) just after 5:00 on June 29, 2012.

Much of central Ohio lost power due to the storm at the end of June.  Most of central Ohio NOW has power back or will by the end of this weekend according to AEP.

A professional Internet presence is key to attracting potential customers.
