The City of Seattle desires an effective means to address problem rental housing units and improve rental housing conditions for Seattle residents. While the City recognizes that the great majority of housing units in the city meet basic standards of habitability, we know that there are some units that clearly do not. Perhaps the most important byproduct to come out of the 2012 legislative session concerning landlords is SB 6315. The new law concerns tenant screening and is intended to provide applicants with more information up front when deciding whether or not to submit an application for tenancy and pay a tenant screening fee.
