Illinois Association of Realtors Responds to CBS2's Story about Mortgage Fraud and Foreclosures - 05/28/07 03:06 PM
IAR and local boards respond to CBS2's story that blames mortgage brokers and REALTORS for rising foreclosures and mortgage fraud. The May 17 story by anchor Diann Burns quoted researcher David Rose of the National Training and Information Center who warns homebuyers: "The broker, the REALTOR is not your friend." The letter to CBS executives (pdf) emphasized that REALTORS educate consumers about predatory lending and serve the client's best interests in buying or selling a home.

A Memorial Day Remembrance program will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the St. Paul Cemetery on Lake Street. The gathering will honor all veterans with flags, taps and a gun salute. Patriotic music will be performed by the Ensemble of the Spirit of Life chorus.
                           
                          
The St Paul Cemetary contains graves from all North America wars going back to the Civel War. The local Boy Scout Troop will place flowers on the soldier's grave sites.

Illinois Median Price Slightly Higher in the First Quarter of 2007; Sales Down 14.2 Percent from a Year Ago
Home prices in Illinois held steady as weather in the first quarter of 2007 dampened sales activity. Total home sales (which include single-family homes and condominiums) totaled 29,390, down 14.2 percent from 34,235 home sales in the first quarter of 2006. The first quarter median home sale price was $197,000, up 0.5 percent from $196,000 a year earlier. A typical cost segregation study is an analysis that reclassifies components of a building from 27.5, 31.5 and 39-year depreciation to five, seven and 15-year depreciation. The benefit comes from accelerating the depreciation tax deductions, which are more valuable today than 39 years from now.

IAR provided testimony at the House Committee of the Whole hearing on May 9 unveiling a new study that shows the GRT would take a huge bite out of construction employment in Illinois, as slower growth in the state’s economy due to the new levy would cause a projected permanent loss of 13,968 jobs in the sector.
