2009 is the  fourth worst nesting season recorded.
A 40 percent decline in 2009 of Loggerhead sea turtles nests. Florida is home to 90 percent of the Loggerhead nests in the U.S. Loggerheads, which hatch from eggs the size of ping-pong balls on the beaches from Texas to North Carolina. They can typically grow shells three feet long and live to be 50 -60 years old. The loggerhead turtle will come back to the beach where they were born to lay their eggs.
Loggerheads are listed as "threatened" in 1978 under the Endangered Species Act.
