Last night, we went to see the talented performance of the Rock Pop Contemporary Mainstream and Christian artist Michael W. Smith.  This guy is a Grammy and Dove award winner, has several number 1 hits in a repertoire of over 190 songs and authored around a dozen books.  This night's lead in singer was Hoku nominee Tiffany Thurston who grew up in Kailua Hawaii.  She did a powerful performance to start the night.  

By the way, the MC was the famous star of 95.5 Radio, Dawn O'Brien.  When Michale came on stage, it was only him and his backup keyboard player, who has been with him for the past 17 years.  There were so many songs that the audience sang along with him.  Here's a video of Friends

He got his big start when he himself was an opening act keyboardist for AMY GRANT when she began.  both he and Amy, I think, are living in the Nashville Tennessee area.  Michael W. Smith attends Church at the New River Fellowship in Franklin Tennessee.  His wife Debbie and their 5 children live on a farm.  As with all popular artists, he had ups and downs in his life, including a bout with drug abuse, when he got his act cleaned up at the end of 1979.  He has had songs on the Billboard Charts, has written hit songs for Sandi Patti, Bill Gaither, Amy Grant and Kathy Troccoli and listed as one of the top keyboardists in rock.  This night was a couple of thousand but he has performed in front of tens of thousands.
