What would an extra $2.88 a day, $14.40 a week, or $748.80 a year mean to you?  Thirty-six cents an hour may seem like small change, but for nearly two hundred thousand minimum wage workers, it will mean increased earnings starting January 1st.
According to the state's Department of Economic Opportunity, Florida's minimum wage is going up 36 cents an hour to $7.67 to reflect for higher cost of living expenses.   The same thirty-six cent increase will apply to minimum-wage tipped employees, whose rates will go from $4.29 to $4.65 an hour. While the current federal minimum wage is $7.25 an … (0 comments)

am 1470 wwnn: Foreclosure Fraud Case Settled at the Florida Supreme Court - 07/29/11 05:04 AM
In a matter of “great public importance” that has gone largely ignored this week, the high-profile foreclosure fraud case of Roman Pino versus The Bank of New York has been settled.  According to the Florida Supreme Court, the matter was dismissed upon Pino’s “Notice –Dismiss (Voluntary Stipulation)” on July 25th.
The opportunity for a precedent setting opinion for attorney Thomas Ice, of Ice Legal, whose boutique litigation firm specializes in uncovering forged and fraudulent foreclosure documents, must mean outright success for Pino.
Although details of the settlement were not provided in the brief stipulation before the high court, one can … (1 comments)

“Paint it Broward” is an initiative of Broward County’s Waste and Recycling Services allowing residents throughout the county to receive up to twenty gallons of high-quality recycled latex exterior paint yearly for residential projects.
Latex paint collected through the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Program is transported to a paint manufacturer where it is recycled into high-quality … (0 comments)

am 1470 wwnn: Few apply for foreclosure assistance money - 04/29/11 11:38 PM
The opportunity to receive up to $12,000 in financial assistance to avoid foreclosure has not been much of a success in Florida.
Florida is one of five states hit hardest by the foreclosure epidemic. Notwithstanding attorney general investigations into alleged foreclosure mills, the demise of attorney David J. Stern and the temporary slowdown of foreclosure filings, there are still thousands of Floridians in danger of losing their home.
Designed to assist approximately 40,000 homeowners, only 9,439 applications were submitted in the first week of the state's Florida Hardest-Hit Fund $1 billion mortgage-assistance program. This is a comparatively low turnout compared with … (1 comments)

am 1470 wwnn: The Evolving Nation of Facebook - 04/03/11 01:32 AM
With over 600 million members and hundreds joining every hour, if Facebook were a nation, they would be the world's third largest behind only China and India.  At seven years old, Facebook continues to develop an existence within society.
With that said, "change" is once again occurring at the social media utility as Facebook has released a cleaver and convenient way for users to convert non-personal profiles into business pages all without losing the social presence previously established.  A key difference between the two features is the fact that users can "like" a page while they must "friend" a profile.  Facebook … (1 comments)

In an ever worsening economy your good name and reputation within the community is becoming more important.  Creditors have tightened their guidelines effectively barring millions of Americans from borrowing money.  Even those with excellent credit are experiencing reduced credit limits and closed equity lines.  Mortgage lenders, auto finance companies, credit card issuers and banks have all raised the bar.  Borrowers with low credit scores can expect to be denied or to pay significantly higher interest rates than those with excellent credit.  Long gone are the days of obtaining credit, goods, benefits, services and/or employment with a 620 credit score.  In more … (0 comments)

am 1470 wwnn: Real ID, Fake ID, Pass ID - What's Up in the Air With a National Identification Card - 08/24/09 12:55 PM
Opponents of the REAL ID Act of 2005 were given a bit of hope earlier this year when Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano stated that she wanted to repeal the Act, a law which has been perceived by many as the federal government's failed plan to impose a national identification card through state driver's licenses and identification cards. What has taken place since early February is a cosmetic makeover called "The PASS ID Act," an act that has revived the push for a national identification card.
As currently worded, the PASS ID Act (S. 1261) seeks to make many of the … (0 comments)

A tale of April Fool's at AM 1470 WWNN didn't go over well with morning drive hosts Steve Kane and Brian Craig of the "Steve Kane Show" in south Florida.  From the radio waves to the telephone lines, an April Fool's prank played by fellow host Bill Lewis of the "Credit Restoration Consultants Hour" didn't sit well with Steve and Brian.  In a joke that spanned almost a week, it was only on April 2nd that fellow hosts and listeners alike learned that Bill Lewis had not left the station and his long standing show on financial issues.
Although not a … (0 comments)
