&lt;p&gt;Everglades restoration is really on Track now.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;A $1.75 billion deal to give taxpayers control over 187,000 acres south of Lake Okeechobee would dramatically cut the cost and time it takes to restore the Everglades, per environmentalists.&#8232;&#8232;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;(PressMethod) - Per an article in Florida Trend, United States Sugar Corp. has tentatively signed off on a plan to end its operations in the next six years and give the South Florida Water Management District control of its land and other assets, including its sugar mill and rail lines. &#8232;&#8232;The land can hold and cleanse as much as 325 billion gallons of water, which would be used to restore the Everglades and aid South Florida's water supply, according to the non-profit Everglades Foundation. &#8232;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; &quot;We really consider this plan a once-in-a-generation opportunity,&quot; said foundation Chief Executive Officer Kurt Fordham said in a telephone news conference. &quot;This is something the environmental community has been clamoring for for years &#8232;&#8232;Big Pine Key &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Florida June 27th, 2008. &lt;p&gt;Fl Keys Banks are expanding.&lt;br /&gt;Major Fl keys banks want people to know they are very stable and growing.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;(PressMethod) - Fl Keys Banks are doing just fine. &lt;br /&gt;Among the banks reporting, were TIB bank, ,which has nine branches in the Florida Keys. Per, Michael Carrigan, president and CEO of TIB Bank, &quot;We're very well capitalized, very well reserved&quot; &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Also, First State Bank of the Florida Keys. Karen Sharp, the bank's president and CEO, says they've continued to have positive earnings and to build capital. She says the bank is performing &quot;above its peer group&quot; of banks of similar size. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Last but not least, Marine Bank, which has nine branches in the Florida Keys. The parent company just reported second quarter earnings of $5.7 million, as compared to $5.1 million for the second quarter of 2007. Most of the major government and private building projects                 are done by outside firms. All of these issues help protect your liability in cases of fire/break                 in.&lt;br /&gt; &amp;bull; When the home complies with all of the above and we have                 the signed contract, then it can go into the rental pool.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;What makes a good Vacation Rental&lt;br /&gt; &amp;bull; A clean, well-maintained home on a canal or open water.&lt;br /&gt; &amp;bull; Typically one of the bedrooms should have a set of twin                 beds if the renters are bringing children.&lt;br /&gt; &amp;bull; Good linens and towels and a backup set. This is especially                 important for monthly renters.&lt;br /&gt; &amp;bull; The washer, dryer and refrigerator should be newer if                 possible.&lt;br /&gt; &amp;bull; A good Television hooked up to cable (about $35.00 per                 month) and a CD or tape stereo system.&lt;br /&gt; &amp;bull; The kitchen must be completely outfitted. A microwave                 is also very important for renters.&lt;br /&gt; &amp;bull; Patio and/or Lawn-Deck furniture. The county now factors the acreage after 20 percent of the land has been taken out of the calculation for setbacks and buffers.&lt;br /&gt;The school district previously estimated it needs 100 new employees a year to replace those who leave the county because of its high cost of living and their inability to purchase homes. But there are quite a         few different developments, mostly of single family houses, and some         are pricier than others.&lt;/p&gt;       &lt;p&gt;Water depth affects prices, and some areas have about 15 inches and         some have 3-4 feet. Obviously this means you can have a certain kind         of boat in some areas that won&amp;rsquo;t work in other areas. It depends         what you&amp;rsquo;re looking for. The shallower areas have more direct and         private access to a lot of the wilder and more pristine parts of the         Island and adjacent backcountry. They may also (but not reliably) be         less expensive.&lt;/p&gt;       &lt;p&gt;Until now, on the drive down the Keys from Miami, the housing areas         were arrayed on either side of the road, gulfside/bayside or oceanside.         Here it&amp;rsquo;s different. The 2-lane, 45 mph Overseas Highway (what         a misnomer!) runs across the southern edge of Big Pine, through the restaurant         and business area; most of the residential areas are situated several         minutes drive to the north. The island&amp;rsquo;s fishhook appearance and bay are such distinctive         features that they can be seen easily in satellite pictures.&lt;/p&gt;       &lt;p&gt;Cudjoe Key provides a wide variety of housing ranging from ocean front         executive homes to both Keys standard canal homes and some extraordinary         ones, to the upscale gated mobile home park, Venture Out, on Cudjoe&amp;#39;s         eastern shore. All waterfront properties on the island, including Venture         Out, have become expensive.&lt;/p&gt;       &lt;p&gt;Nearly all the homes are on the Atlantic side of the Overseas Highway.         Boating access on Cudjoe is excelent , almost no matter where you reside.         Boating drafts generally range from 2-4 feet, but some canals on the         fishhook are narrow and have shallow entrances to Cudjoe Bay. Eastside         canals are also narrow and open onto shallow water. Lower Florida Keys Sewer system up for a vote&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Florida Keys Aqueduct Authority are looking at the feasibility of one system serving Lower Sugarloaf to Big Pine.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;March 21, 2008, Lower Florida keys-Nearly a decade ago, Monroe County officials toyed with the idea of one central sewer system serving all of the Keys. Though some systems have been installed and others are in various stages of construction, it&amp;#39;s not too late to take a look at a central system for the Lower Keys, officials say.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;At Wednesday&amp;#39;s County Commission meeting in Marathon, County Engineer David Koppel said the county and Florida Keys Aqueduct Authority are looking at the feasibility of one system serving Lower Sugarloaf to Big Pine.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;ldquo;Staff felt we could save a lot of money by consolidating the systems,&amp;rdquo; he said. &amp;ldquo;The Aqueduct has concluded we can save initially $11 million in capital costs by doing so.&amp;rdquo;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;All told, he said the move would save taxpayers and estimated $26 million in capital costs and yearly service fees.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;ldquo;This is something that&amp;#39;s long overdue,&amp;rdquo; Mayor Sonny McCoy said.&lt;br /&gt;The Aqueduct Authority is the lead agency for the construction and operation of sewers in unincorporated Monroe County except in Key Largo, which has its own elected sewer district.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Big Pine Key Florida March 26th, 2008 &amp;ndash; Per Florida Keys and Summerland Key REALTOR, Abby Oglesbee: The fact the planning commission is looking at setting up a sewer system for the Lower Keys is really great.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;When asked if a central sewer system for the Lower keys would have a direct effect on Real Estate, Abby remarked: It would make a tremendous difference-Right now homes are limited in sq footage- based on the size of the homes septic tank&amp;mdash;with a sewer system-that doesn&amp;rsquo;t come into play.
