Better Hurry....Sandia Area Ski Area Closes Monday Feb 18th!

If you're planning on taking on the slopes at the Sandia Ski Area you better hurry they are officially closing the ski area due to the lack of snow.  This early closing does not come as a surprise due to the very low snowfall for the area and for the entire state.  
This is not good news for skiers, resort operators and business owners of supporting retail shops.  The lack of snowfall will certainly add to an already serious drought condition here in NM and the entire Southwest.

One of the many things I love about living in Albuquerque and the Southwest in general is the amazing Sunsets.  This photo titled Tapestry of a Sunset was taken just yesterday evening with my iPhone at our neighborhood park.  The day had been unusually overcast and gray but the evening allowed this handy work of God. Tapestry of a Sunset, simple yet beautiful.

One of the many attractions to Albuquerque is the Sandia Peak Tramway.  Starting at the base of the Sandia Mountain Range and ascending over 4000 feet to the summit being 10,378’ The ride takes just over 15 minutes and at the midway section the cable cars are approximately 1,000 feet above the ground or as they say 8 seconds to death.  The cable cars themselves hold about 50 people each and weigh over 10,000 lbs when loaded.  The flight takes you up and through some incredibly rugged landscape of huge granite boulders, sheer cliffs and formations beyond compare.  At the top … (36 comments)

The photo below was taken from high atop the Sandia Mountain Range in central New Mexico. The peak of the range is approximately 10,368 feet.  It is not the highest peak in New Mexico that is reserved for Wheeler peak to the north at 13,167’.  However the views from the top of the Sandia Mountain are impressive. I'm so Thankful for amazing views from high atop New Mexico

There's no place like home and We’re Back!  After 16 days and 2800 road miles we have returned home to, Albuquerque, New Mexico. As they say it is great to get away and take a vacation but in reality there's no place like home.

The smoke from the massive New Mexico wildfires brought beautiful sunsets and moon-rises.  Saturday, May 26th 2012 I shot this photo of the New Mexico Wildfire Moon as it rose over the West Mesa.  You can easily see the beautiful red/smokey hue just as I did.  The smoke was thick and I only wanted to be outdoors just long enough to get a couple of photos of this New Mexicio Moon painted with the smoke of the New Mexico Wildfires.

Our morning walk greeted us today with this gorgeous High Desert Cacti in Bloom.  This is a Scarlet “Claret-cup” Hedgehog Cactus.  Now you would not want to trip over or fall into this thorn bearing beauty but she was sure enjoying the morning sun.  Here in Albuquerque we enjoy many variety of High Desert Cacti in Bloom.  Hummingbirds and Bees really enjoy these nectar rich blossoms.

This Large Mountain Lion was spotted and shot near Ruidoso New Mexico
A friend of mine recently sent this photo of a Mountain Lion that was spotted in the mountain resort community of Ruidoso New Mexico.  Reports were that the animal was seen in a residential areas and near a local school.  Apparently the Mountain Lion has little fear of humans which prompted New Mexico Game and Fish to locate and kill the animal.  Opinions were mixed about the demise of this gorgeous, healthy and fearless lion.
