seattle condos: A Seattle Concept For Eco Friendly Senior Living - 10/11/11 11:52 AM
As he declares that changing our vision of housing needs to start with seniors, Gordon Walker, renowned Seattle architect is leading the way.
Walker, in his seventies, has created his concept of a retirement home for himself and his wife, in the trees on Orcas Island. Modular to a degree, and assembled on site, this contemporary example of "simply what we need" looms into the surroundings with a modern edge and designer feel.
The link below will lead you to an article in today's Seattle Times, where you can catch a glimpse of something new, that just might be worth embracing.

Come with us now, into the woods, and feel Mother Nature. Her shimmering droplets of rain on our faces. Leaves cascade down ever so gently as trees stand tall and proud, even as their very roots are exposed for all to see.

Come with us now, as we cross over into a special place, that belongs to anyone with the desire to be here. Feel the serenity, smell the forest thick in the air, and know we are one.

seattle condos: The Spunky Puffin - 10/05/11 06:39 AM
A Visit to Seattle Aquarium

I visit the Seattle Aquarium on a regular basis. Today I did my best to capture the Spunky Puffin. A diving bird with a propensity to swim fast and dive hard! These low flying seabirds are fun to watch and have a playful nature with each other.

Seattle Aquarium is a great way for people of all ages to enjoy marine life, as they learn about our environment in a fun and positive way!

seattle condos: Seattle Puget Sound Clean Up Crew In Action - 10/03/11 05:59 AM
Operating their cranes like a quarter dropping arcade addicts, these Puget Sound creosote cleanup committees have their work cut out for them.

The toxic wood preservative used on treated pilings, containing more than 300 chemicals, leaches contaminates into the sound and beaches for the duration of a treated logs life. And that can be a very long time!

Retrieving the treated wood assists all marine life including salmon, herring, Orca whales, Harbor seals, and many species of birds, who have been documented to suffer from effects of creosote. To date, thousands of tons of derelict pilings and beach … (12 comments)

seattle condos: Seattle Garden Of Remembrance - 09/24/11 06:25 PM
Walk with me now, through the Garden of Remembrance. It isn't far, just off 2nd Avenue and University. It will be worth the walk to  Benaroya Hall, where the Seattle Symphony astounds us with timeless, captivating music.

We can walk with Seattle sons who served in World War II, share a moment with our brothers who went to Korea from this place they so loved, spend a little time with those who left this earth in Viet Nam, Grenada, the Gulf War, Philippines, Afghanistan, or Iraq.

Knowing our Seattle neighborhoods pays off in many ways. The best happy hours at our favorite oyster bars, when to get flowers at the market, which streets to serpentine past in order to avoid bus rider traffic.

Weekends in downtown Seattle open the business district to urban dwellers seeking secluded courtyards, flower beds and art installations in utter serenity.  Gone are the brief case clad business attired, bustling crowds making their way in a timely fashion to the building entrance where they will begin and end their work day. Oh sure, some fountains and water features may be on conservation … (6 comments)

seattle condos: Seattle's Rainier Tower For Architectural Delight - 09/20/11 06:35 AM
Rainier Tower Fifth and University Seattle

Created by renowned architect Minoru Yamasaki, who also designed the New York World Trade Center buildings that were destroyed on September 11th, 2001, this colossal structure has the unique distinction of balancing atop an eleven story pedestal.

Built in 1977, this relatively modern structure gives one the feel of an upside-down pyramid reaching to the clouds as you gaze thirty one stories above it's base at the peculiar lines of this skyscraper.

Although the shape of this structure would leave some to wonder if it is indeed sturdy, the pedestrian friendly design … (9 comments)

seattle condos: Seattle Art At 7th And Union - 09/19/11 06:48 AM
Seventh and Union

It won't be hard to find local artist Ginny Ruffner's  Flower Pot  as you stroll the area of 7th Avenue and Union. The twenty seven foot work of art has computer controlled moving parts, including the red watering can that pours water into the pot, a spinning daisy and bluebells that open and close.

Driving or walking this section of Seattle is a fun experience with this 2011 Alice in Wonderland like installation joining other artistic creations incorporated into our urban landscape.

seattle condos: Gallery Mack Seattle - 09/13/11 05:09 PM
Seattle Art Galleries are abundant. We have a thriving art community that could easily create a career move for me, just keeping up with the latest exhibits about town.
Gallery Mack is easy to spot with the artistic Whirly gig spinning in the breeze above this Western and Lenora location. Once inside, there is an eclectic meld of artistic offerings, from Chairs of wood, to bronze statues, oil on canvas, glass and metal. Today, I would like to share a few of the glass pieces that struck my fancy as I perused this well known gallery...

seattle condos: Seattle Dinner Theater Like No Other - 09/13/11 06:09 AM
TEATRO ZINZANNI
"Love Chaos & Dinner"

Part circus, part dinner theater, including contortionist, comedy and cabaret. A dinner experience like no other, directed by living landmark Tommy Tune. Teatro Zinzanni is bountiful with bodacious and bawdy entertainment, taking place nightly, near Seattle Center.

What better way to spend a Seattle evening, than to take in Teatro Zinzanni? Seated in an antique Belgium cabaret tent at dinner tables or in booths, with service of a five course gourmet meal presented by vaudevillian style acrobats, dancers,  and comedians. I best not forget the word magician in my description of the performers … (12 comments)

seattle condos: Bronze, Silver or Gold - 09/12/11 04:51 AM
Seattle's Pike Place Market, is always an adventure on the weekends. The hustle and bustle, with fish flying, ice frantically being shoveled, produce trucks delivering seasonal bounty, and floral arrangements being bundled together with artistic flair.

Today, I have noticed a trio of street performers not singing, playing instruments or even juggling. Rather, contributing to the carnival vibe of Pike Place Market by becoming  living art. Statue people, if you will, devoted to enhancing our overall experience with their very presence among us.
