Wishing you a safe and healthy holiday season!
Heating fire season - Check those air filters if you have not done so after the fires. They probably are extremely dirty, maybe even full of ashes, depending on where you live.
Holiday lights fire season - Holiday lights, the overuse of extension cords, improper use of extension cords, and using interior-rated lights and cords outside are major causes of fires during the holiday season.
Candle fire season - Almost everyone likes the flickering lights and smell of candles, but candles are another major cause of fires during the holiday season.
Christmas tree fire season - Ah, who can't resist the smell of a real old fashioned pine tree serving as the centerpiece of our holidays. Unfortunately, tree lights and the overuse of extension cords for those tree lights, along with a tree that is drying out, creates an extreme fire hazard.
These types of fires during this time of year regularly turn what should be a joyous time into a time of despair and possibly even mourning. Please be careful and follow the manufacturer's instructions on lights and extension cords, and keep open flames away from combustible materials.
Carbon monoxide and smoke alarms - You remembered to reset your clocks last month. Did you remember to change the batteries in your carbon monoxide and smoke alarms? Anytime one burns something, there is a small amount of carbon monoxide that results. Please change those batteries now if you didn't do it last month to help you make it through this holiday fire season.
Happy Holidays!
