The RealEstate.com team, in conjunction with ActiveRain, wants to create a better real estate index. The indices currently thrown around by news publications and real estate professionals, like the Case-Shiller index and the U.S. Census Bureau’s Building Permits Survey, are too broad and retrospective to represent the current health of national and local real estate markets.

To overcome these indices’ shortcomings, the RealEstate.com team is in the process of creating the “Real Estate Confidence Index.” This index will be used to measure the confidence of those who know local real estate markets the best - the real estate professionals that work within them, you.

TAKE THE FIRST REAL ESTATE CONFIDENCE INDEX SURVEY


This quarterly index will be created using real estate professionals’ responses to short (five minute) online surveys. The surveys are primarily meant to assess professionals' confidence in four categories of their local real estate markets on a scale of “very confident” to “not at all confident.” Here is a screenshot of this question:

An additional question will ask real estate professionals to share one or two sentences about trends in their local real estate markets that quarter.

The Real Estate Confidence Index’s home will be on RealEstate.com, in the same section as its blog. The results of the Real Estate Confidence Index surveys - and the index itself - will be freely distributed to any agent, publication or blog that wants them. Survey respondents also have the option to provide their email address so they can receive the survey results as soon as they are tabulated.

Everyone willing to spend five minutes of your time to fill out this confidence index survey will be given 500 ActiveRain points. PLEASE make sure you put your user name in at the end of the survey CORRECT. Points will be awarded at the close of the survey, in the middle of May.
