Future of FSBO Business in Canada Jeopardized by Competition Bureau… - 04/16/10 01:16 PM
The successful fee-for-service models offered to the public by many FSBO (for-sale-by-owner) companies are now in jeopardy as a result of what the Competition Bureau is proposing.
Here is a recent excerpt from the Financial Post:
"We are not quite sure what the commissioner is trying to achieve," said Stephen Skelly, vice-president of operations with Ottawa-based National FSBO. "There is a discussion of a fee-for-service operation and that's the kind of thing FSBO businesses already provide."

Latest Allegations Against Canadian Real Estate Association... - 04/10/10 06:17 PM
April 9, 2010 - 19:41  TORONTO - The federal competition watchdog accused Canada's real estate industry Friday of threatening to ban brokers who attempt to offer a range of services from using its popular Multiple Listing Service.
The Competition Bureau's allegations came in its latest reply as part of its ongoing case against the Canadian Real Estate Association, the group that represents some 98,000 Canadian real estate brokers.
"In cases where small-scale entry by alternative business models has occurred, CREA and its members have disciplined such entrants, exploiting the barriers CREA has erected through its rule-making and rule-enforcing powers," it said.

Canada's last known Veteran of the First World War, John "Jack" Babcock, passed away on February 18, 2010, and Minister of Veterans Affairs, The Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, said, "As the Prime Minister noted, the passing of Mr. Babcock marks the end of an era." Minister Blackburn went on to say, "We as a country feel a tremendous sense of loss with the passing of our last known First World War Veteran, but we are committed to remembering the sacrifices of all those who served in the Great War."

The peaceful society we in Canada enjoy today is only a dream to the many people in the world who live in countries torn apart by violence. This peace is possible only because it has been protected by the efforts and sacrifices of generations of Canadians over the years who have put their lives on the line.
Following the February 18, 2010, passing of John "Jack" Babcock, Canada's last known First World War Veteran, the Government of Canada unveiled plans to mark one of the most important chapters in Canadian history.
