Ten Things I Love About Winter in Mecosta County Michigan:

1) Watching the Snow Snakes winding across the road in front of me;

2) Seeing the mini tornado Snow Devils dancing in the windy fields;

3) Glimpsing a rainbow of color as a wall of fluffy snow flies off from the top of a hill;

4) Being in awe of the spectacular hoar frost crystals glistening on the trees in the morning sun;

5) Crispy snow crunching underfoot amidst the diamonds scattered about my feet;

6) Catching sight of a Bald Eagle against the snow or watching a herd of Deer kicking up clouds of snow as they run through the field;

7) Beautiful orange, pink and purple cotton candy sunrises and sunsets;

8) Rainbow halos around the moon;

9) The blackest, starriest skies;

10) And especially... I am fascinated with the different varieties and shapes of bare-naked trees in the winter - especially when they are outlined with a layer of snow!

In an attempt to bring back a wonder-ful old Big Rapids tradition, the Ferris State University Student Government is joining mittens with the Festival of the Arts and holding a snow sculpture competition!

Creations may be built on the North Quad of the Ferris campus or at Hemlock Park. The building may begin on February 21 and judging will take place on Sunday, February 24.

The graph below shows the time period of the past one year, through October 31, 2012 for the West Central Michigan area. This four county area is made up of Lake, Newaygo, Osceola and Mecosta counties, and is the area our West Central Association of Realtors® covers.

I am pleased to see that overall homes sold in the four counties is up 14% for the past year, despite having fewer homes listed for sale. This is welcome news and is a good sign that the market is picking up speed!

This is a very optimistic sign of improvement for our area, and hopefully the trend will continue to improve into 2013! Election Day Eve - Are you excited for the future? I really cannot put my finger on why I feel so much excitement for tomorrow... More than for any previous election! It seems that we are going to be seeing a number of things contested by the apparent losing side tomorrow, given the power outages and destruction of Sandy; voting from military trucks; New Jersey residents being allowed to vote by email and fax; and early voting potential fraud. Should be interesting to watch it unfold! I am optimistically hopeful that whoever comes out the winner, they clearly have gotten the message that our country is in deep doo-doo and needs to recover now, not later! Americans need to be solidly confident about home ownership in the United States, and returned to the peace of mind that their home is a great investment! Are you excited about the election Tuesday?

If you have never attended this exhibit, you are in for a treat, as every tree is different and some have unusual themes for Christmas Trees! It is a wonderful fundraiser for the hospital. Get back to me if you can ship to Michigan and also if you accept the payment type I indicated. Kindly return this email with your price list of your products.. I await your quick response. St. Peter's Lutheran School is excited to present Life is Sweet: Fashion 2012! Join us for the Fashion Show, showcasing fashions from Fairman's Apparel, Maurices, JCPenney, and Roger's Jewelry, and enjoy a luncheon, raffle, silent auction, and Grand Prize drawings.

The Fashion Show is hosted by Juleit Dragos of WZZM-TV13 and takes place at the Holiday Inn Conference Center in Big Rapids.

We will celebrate all the sweet things in life as we enjoy a fashion show full of fashions from local businesses. Your entry ticket includes the fashion show, luncheon and entry into grand prize drawings.

The silent auction provides you with an opportunity to purchase holiday gifts or treats for yourself, all while benefiting our day school. We are also holding a raffle for $500 cash prize.

If you’d like to donate to the silent auction, contact Susan Jones 796-0791 or bring them to the office during the week.

The Corn Maze operates on Saturdays and Sundays in September beginning the 22nd and through the month of October.

CORN MAZE: Saturdays: Noon to 5:30 pm, Sundays 2 PM to 5 PM.

The Haunted Maze begins Friday, October 5th, and also runs through the Month of October on Friday and

Saturday nights. You can schedule your own private parties too!

HAUNTED MAZE: October Friday and Saturday nights 8 PM to 10:30 PM
