real estate: Protect Home Values in Your Neighborhood - 04/01/12 12:48 PM
My neighbor’s house went on the market last week. What’s the first thing I did? Mow my yard.
Home buyers want to purchase a house in a neighborhood where there’s great curb appeal all around. In fact, the look of the neighboring houses may be more important than the house they actually buy. Why? They know they can control (improve) the look of the house they buy; for the rest of the neighborhood, however, what you see is what you get.
If you’re worried about the home values in your neighborhood, do your part to attract home buyers who appreciate a … (2 comments)

real estate: You're Not Worth My Gas Money - 04/21/11 10:13 AM
Last week a woman called me, desperate for help. We’ll call her Natalie. She had gotten my contact information from her sister, who had gotten it from a friend who is also a friend of mine. (Thank you!) Natalie was in town for one week and needed to find a place for her family to live.
Finding a place to live is very stressful, especially when you’re in a new town and you only have a week to do it. I believe our job as real estate agents is to ease the stress. We do this by providing solutions. When I … (2 comments)

real estate: How Well Do You Know Your REALTOR®? - 01/19/11 03:36 AM
How well do you know your REALTOR®? Does it matter?
Lately when I meet new clients I don’t spend much time talking about myself; they already know where I’m from, what I like to do, and how long I’ve been practicing real estate. Last summer I was showing houses to a couple I had just met. We were walking up to the front door of the second house when out of the blue he said, “So what made you join the Army?”
As you can imagine, there was more than a slight hesitation as my mind raced to figure out how … (3 comments)

real estate: New Video Series: Home Buyer Basics - 12/31/10 05:10 AM
There are a handful of questions that come up consistently when I’m counseling home buyers. The process of buying a house can be very overwhelming. Terms like earnest money and down payment get confused with each other, and the time line can sometimes seem impossible.
I’ve taken a few of the common questions I get from home buyers and started a new video series, called Home Buyer Basics.
This video series will be a great resource for anyone thinking of buying a house. The idea is that one specific question about the home buying process will be answered with each short, … (4 comments)

real estate: Has Crowfield Hit Bottom? - 09/15/09 08:05 AM
Lately the news media has indicated we may be at or near the bottom of the housing market crisis nationally. Since all real estate is local, why don't we take a look at what's happening in Crowfield Plantation, Goose Creek, SC, as we head into the fall of 2009.
OVERVIEW Most agree that the height of the market was at the end of 2005 (I bought my first house in December 0f 2005, how's that for timing?). We saw a leveling off in 2006, and 2007 marked the beginning of what we now know as a spike in inventory and drop … (2 comments)

real estate: Today’s Real Estate: Longer Contracts, More Work. Better Hire a Pro. - 06/04/09 12:24 AM
Used to be – and I say that with all my two years of real estate experience – use to be that once a buyer and seller agreed on price and terms, closing would follow about 30 days later. However, now that short sales, foreclosures, government assistance programs, and bad credit have become more the norm than the exception, closing dates are getting pushed further and further out. In my own business, for example, three closings scheduled for early June have all been postponed to later in the month.
One of my client couples, more than qualified to purchase the home … (0 comments)

In this buyer's market, buyers are looking for the best deal they can find. Makes sense.
