jeff wu: Be Fit McLean Outdoor Adventure Expo - 04/11/13 12:05 AM
The Be Fit McLean Outdoor Adventure Expo, formerly held in February, is coming to the Tysons Corner area in April this year to its new location at the Old Firehouse Teen Center in McLean. Now in the third successful year, the expo is one of the best events for the sports enthusiast because they get to see and try new things as well as see some great entertainment. In addition, there will be booths with vendors and, of course, food, but the “gear swap” is probably the best part of the whole event. If you’re new to the Tysons Corner (0 comments)

The Tysons Cornerarea has been looking forward to this event since last year when we first heard that it might come to our area. People will gather by the thousands from all over Northern Virginia (2 comments)

jeff wu: Spring Into Tysons - 03/21/13 12:57 AM
At the end of this month, the Cherry Blossom Festival will be held in DC, when the trees should be coming into full bloom and the Tysons Corner area will be filled with tourists seeing the sights. The festival is a huge event in celebration of the special trees that were a gift from Japan over 100 years ago; so every year around the last two weeks of the month of March, it’s all about the cherry blossoms. There is a horticultural wonder right here in the Tysons Cornerarea. The Meadowlark Botanical Gardens in Vienna offers a 95-acre campus filled with (0 comments)
jeff wu: Pets Need Seniors - 03/14/13 12:41 AM
Pets are special; they add so much to the quality of life, and clients always make sure to include accommodations for their pets when searching for a home in the Tysons Corner area. Scientists have studied the complex way animals impact our lives and improve our physical and emotional health. They have found the benefits to be measurably significant, not only for children, but also for the senior population. Elderly pet owners live longer, cope better with stress, have lower blood pressure, are healthier overall, and have more joy in their lives than non-pet owners. Not everyone can have a pet, (2 comments)
Not far from Tysons Corner, a high school student in McLean did something out of the ordinary and very impressive to help the smallest victims of super-storm Sandy. Acts of kindness are always heartwarming, but even more so when performed by a teenager. For his Eagle Scout project, 14 year old Antonio Vasques organized a book collection drive. So many students Antonio's age are into video games, watching T.V., and hanging out with friends, but Antonio took the initiative to do something to make a difference because his heart was touched by the victims and he just wanted to help. jeff wu: Gymnastics and Crew - 02/27/13 09:50 PM
Recently crew and men's gymnastics were removed from the high school sports list by the Virginia High School League. After concerns were raised by area parents in McLean and the Tysons Corner area, the decision was halted for re-examination. Tysons Corner and McLean area parents are continually impressed by the positive impact Crew has had on participants in terms of discipline, self-motivation, comradeship and endurance. Not all students are suited to other kinds of team sports like football or basketball due to their abilities or physical build. Rowing depends largely on upper body strength and accommodates people of various sizes. The (0 comments)
jeff wu: Tebow Bill - 02/20/13 08:46 PM
Since I love sports, anything involving sports in the Tysons Corner area gets my attention. The Tebow Bill has caused a lot of controversy, and was passed the House of Delegates and was then narrowly denied by the Senate Health and Education Committee. Sponsored by Del. Robert Bell (R-Dist.58) House Bill 1442 would have allowed Virginia students who are home-schooled to be eligible to participate in public school sports and various other extracurricular activities. It was given the name “Tebow Bill” in honor of NFL quarterback Tim Tebow, who was a home-schooled student who played for his local high school in (4 comments)
jeff wu: Tysons Corner Police - 02/14/13 12:32 AM
No community is immune to crime, and the best way to deal with it is to be as well-prepared as possible. Tysons Corner has always done a fantastic job of fighting crime and keeping citizens safe. The Tysons Corner area is already a vibrant epicenter, and the four Silver Line Metro stations are the newest mini urban centers which have been forecast for completion by developers in 2014. Along with new hotels, condos, the numerous office and retail spaces, community centers and complete outdoor spaces with covered walks and nearby athletic fields, there will be a tremendous amount of new spaces (6 comments)
jeff wu: Legislation On Tysons Tax - 02/06/13 09:40 PM
The planning and financial management of the redevelopment plans for Tysons Corner are always in the news. Meetings occur, plans are adjusted, protests continue, and reports are presented, but this is usually the case for such a massive undertaking. In order to help fund transportation related projects, the county planned to levy new taxes on Tysons Corner for which a new tax district was created. The taxes have been the subject of an ongoing battle for some time and would apply not only to commercial property, but unfortunately for many Tysons Corner residents, they also apply to the residential properties. jeff wu: The Future of Our Metro - 01/30/13 11:43 PM
Momentum is the name of a plan created by the management of Metro to define the possible future plans for expansion, continual refurbishing, repair, and improvement. The entire system has to be managed in such a way that it remains competitive and can handle the expected population growth in the Tysons Corner area and National Capital Region. Metro used the feedback collected from thousands of residents in the Tysons Corner area and Capitol Region through surveys, emails, meetings, and forums to identify issues and form solutions. Many of the responses indicated how important the Metro system was as a deciding factor (3 comments)
jeff wu: 2013 Inauguration - 01/24/13 02:31 AM
Every four years I am reminded of how amazing it is to live in Tysons Corner, so close to the D.C. area. Tysons Corner's close proximity to Washington D.C. gives us access not only to some pretty amazing places, but also to all the great historical events. The 2013 inauguration was another historic first, and we were close enough to participate in the preparations as well as to be part of the celebrations. Of course, the traffic increased, the Metro schedules changed, some places were closed, the security was tight, and there were plenty of inconveniences, but it is amazing to (3 comments)

Parents in the Tysons Corner area, as well as all over the country, have been struggling to find ways to make our schools a safe place, and on the heels of the Sandy Hook school shooting-- these discussions have become emotionally charged debates. The Fairfax Teacher’s Union has taken a reasonable approach by launching a survey on school safety, specifically for the teachers. The union wants members to provide their opinion on what a safe school looks like and if guns should play a part in preventing another tragedy. Personalities and politicians in Tysons Corner and beyond have broadcast their (0 comments)

jeff wu: Music In McLean - 12/26/12 09:57 PM
November and December are such busy months and not just in the Tysons Corner area. Usually toward the end of December, there is a bit of a let-down. Now that the holiday festivities are over and the children are still home from school-- it is the perfect time to take in a local concert. The Tysons Corner area boasts some of the best musical events in Virginia. On Saturday, December 29, a special performance will be held at the Lewinsville Presbyterian Church , which is one of McLean's oldest, dating back to before the Civil War, when it was just a (0 comments)
jeff wu: Tysons Corner Area Shows Support - 12/19/12 10:16 PM
After the unbelievably horrible tragedy that occurred in Newtown, Connecticut when a young man killed 20 small children and 6 adults at the Sandy Hook elementary school in addition to his own mother and himself, it is difficult not to think about what the families of the victims are going through. There are so many expressions of love and compassion pouring in from people from all over the United States. As a father, I can’t imagine how the parents are able to function, but I’m so touched by things that people right here in the Tysons Corner area are doing to (2 comments)
The McLean Little League Board of Directors will be forming a new Little League baseball division for the spring of 2013, and it isn’t too soon to start planning. If you live in the McLean or Tysons Corner area, you’ll be interested to learn about a separate division of Little League that was established in 1989 and was appropriately named “The Challenger Division.” This division allows girls and boys who are physically and mentally challenged to participate in baseball. It is a wonderful program for kids from ages 4 all the way through high school. More than 30,000 (2 comments)
jeff wu: Safe and Prepared in Tysons Corner - 12/06/12 12:41 AM
Before we get too deeply involved in holiday preparations and events in and around Tysons Corner, it might be wise to re-think our plans to stay safe and be prepared. The governor recently encouraged all Virginia residents to be prepared for the possibility of major winter storms by proclaiming December 2nd through the 8th as Winter Preparedness Week. The governor’s office also provided a number of excellent safety tips, many of which we just don’t think about around the holidays, such as reminding us to have our fireplaces cleaned and inspected. The creosote buildup is highly flammable and must be professionally (2 comments)
