selling a home: Outstanding McLean Teen - 03/06/13 03:57 PM

Not far from Tysons Corner, a high school student in McLean did something out of the ordinary and very impressive to help the smallest victims of super-storm Sandy. Acts of kindness are always heartwarming, but even more so when performed by a teenager. For his Eagle Scout project, 14 year old Antonio Vasques organized a book collection drive. So many students Antonio's age are into video games, watching T.V., and hanging out with friends, but Antonio took the initiative to do something to make a difference because his heart was touched by the victims and he just wanted to help. … (0 comments)

Recently crew and men's gymnastics were removed from the high school sports list by the Virginia High School League. After concerns were raised by area parents in McLean and the Tysons Corner area, the decision was halted for re-examination.
Tysons Corner and McLean area parents are continually impressed by the positive impact Crew has had on participants in terms of discipline, self-motivation, comradeship and endurance. Not all students are suited to other kinds of team sports like football or basketball due to their abilities or physical build.
Rowing depends largely on upper body strength and accommodates people of various sizes. The … (0 comments)

Since I love sports, anything involving sports in the Tysons Corner area gets my attention. The Tebow Bill has caused a lot of controversy, and was passed the House of Delegates and was then narrowly denied by the Senate Health and Education Committee.
Sponsored by Del. Robert Bell (R-Dist.58) House Bill 1442 would have allowed Virginia students who are home-schooled to be eligible to participate in public school sports and various other extracurricular activities. It was given the name “Tebow Bill” in honor of NFL quarterback Tim Tebow, who was a home-schooled student who played for his local high school in … (4 comments)

The planning and financial management of the redevelopment plans for Tysons Corner are always in the news. Meetings occur, plans are adjusted, protests continue, and reports are presented, but this is usually the case for such a massive undertaking.
In order to help fund transportation related projects, the county planned to levy new taxes on Tysons Corner for which a new tax district was created. Every four years I am reminded of how amazing it is to live in Tysons Corner, so close to the D.C. area. Tysons Corner's close proximity to Washington D.C. gives us access not only to some pretty amazing places, but also to all the great historical events.
The 2013 inauguration was another historic first, and we were close enough to participate in the preparations as well as to be part of the celebrations. Of course, the traffic increased, the Metro schedules changed, some places were closed, the security was tight, and there were plenty of inconveniences, but it is amazing to … (3 comments)

Before we get too deeply involved in holiday preparations and events in and around Tysons Corner, it might be wise to re-think our plans to stay safe and be prepared.
