Palm Pre - First Impressions - 08/31/09 11:23 PM
Today we exchanged our Blackberry 8330's for the new Palm Pre.  I had asked to be released from my 2-year contract with Sprint and they offered up the Palm Pre.  I jumped at the opportunity.  The exchange cost me $40.00.  They did charge me a restocking fee,  but they credited me the purchase price I had paid a month ago.  So the net was an additional $40.00.  Not bad.  The salesperson helped me transfer both contact data bases over to the new Pres.    I picked up my phone at 3:00 PM and had to go back for a replacement at 6:00 … (8 comments)

Blackberry 8330 - Sprint - Update Part III - 08/30/09 09:41 PM
An update on my Blackberry 8330.  The bloom is off the rose.   I've had the phone about 3 weeks, and these are my observations.  It does not have Wifi,  something I miss.  I'm on roam way more than I want because of my service area,  but at least  I have better cell coverage.   I've bought several batteries, but I still need to change them at least once a day.   The phone gets the hour glass more often when I switch applications.  My friends tell me I sound better on this phone but I still come in garbled from time to time.   … (2 comments)

Tech Savvy Agent on Facebook - Check it out - 08/28/09 05:04 PM
I found a group of agents who have a facebook page called Tech Savvy Agent.  They have over 700 fans and seem to know their stuff.  You can follow them on twitter, too.   They seem to know about all the new applications for iphones.  I have found a wealth of information there and thought I would share the link.  They do not disclose their location or how many of them there are.  Very interesting.

Today is my brother Glenn's 46th birthday, only he is not here to celebrate it! - 08/26/09 06:02 AM
Glenn Alan Montenero was my "baby brother.'  He was born between my sophomore and junior year in high school on the sunny afternoon of August 26, 1963.  Oh my God!  I couldn't believe my parents were actually still having sex.   All that embarrassment changed the instant he was born and I got my first glimpse.   Here was this cute little person with bright shiny brown eyes.   My brother!  How  I loved him.   My parents named him Glenn Alan, but I soon called him "Pookie."  I called him that as a baby, as a child and, much to his chagrin, as an adult.  He told me … (49 comments)

Recognizegood.com for the Good Samaritans in our lives! - 08/21/09 12:31 AM
The Samaritan Counseling Center in Austin has started this really neat idea.  They have created a social media site where others can go and recognize ordinary and special people who do acts of kindness for others in an unselfish way.  Maybe it is a store clerk, or someone who stopped and helped you fix your flat tire.  You have a way to recognize them and let them know you appreciate what they do.   There are some great stories and videos on the site.  If you submit someone for recogniition on the site they will make a small charitable donation in their honor.

SHORT SALE FIASCO - Who is helping Who? If you don't know what to do, don't do it!! - 08/19/09 09:47 PM
SHORT SALE - Who is helping who?   After checking the expired listings today I found one less than a mile from my house in an adjacent neighborhood.  I decided to stop on my way home.   I was there within  24 hours of the listing expiration.  This  listing had been on the market for 179 days at the original list price without a price reduction.  The comments listed it as a "short sale possibility"   I spoke to the homeowner and listened carefully as he told me what had happened to him in the past year.   Had he had any showings?  Not a … (11 comments)

Bob Dylan was looking at houses in New Jersey - - 08/19/09 03:10 PM
I came across this story the other day and thought I would share it with you.  I hadn't realized that Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson and John Mellancamp were on tour right now.  They were in Round Rock and I missed it.  The story is very funny.  He was walking around a home that was for sale on the Jersey Shore.   Other stories that have been quoted about this state that he likes to check out the locations where other artists have written songs.  Supposedly Bruce Springsteen wrote "Born to Run" in this neighborhood.  He's a looky-loo.    Read the story and wonder … (4 comments)

Leave the Selling to the Agent - Part #4 on Showcasing your Cedar Park, Texas Home - 08/19/09 12:12 AM
LEAVE THE SELLING TO THE AGENT!!!
You are paying me to do a job,  now let me do it.  We want the buyer to visualize their couch in your living room.  They may also want to change the colors in your house.  Why?  Because their taste may be different than yours.    It's called "taking ownership"   It's a buying "sign."  I rejoice when I hear it because someone is probably going to buy a house.  But when they see you (the homeowner)  they are more reserved and less likely to exhibit those signs.  They are more comfortable in my presence than in yours, so:

Austin Light Rail - Delayed Again - Fare Increases proposed - 08/16/09 10:50 PM
Austin Light Rail - Delayed Again.  Fare increases proposed and the trains aren't running yet.  I drove by the Main Terminal for Cap Metro today and tried to take a picture of the cars just sitting there. I was turned away by a security guard who would not allow me to take a picture.    For months they have been testing the MetroRail cars up by our house in Leander  but strangely enough we haven't seen them in weeks.  They are all now sitting at the main station and the "trial" runs have stopped.  Almost every morning there would be 3 cars … (0 comments)

ROCKMELT.COM STEALTH FACEBOOK BROWSER - 08/16/09 12:59 AM
Has anyone gotten an invite from Rockmelt.com  ?    Looks like it is a browser put out by Mark Andreesson, formerly of Netscape fame.  I found this screenshot on the web.  It supposed to be a browser that connects with your facebook profile.  The product is supposed to be in stealth beta right now. I want it now!!!

Blackberry 8330 - My new baby - Update - 08/15/09 08:20 PM
I've had it four days now and there are some minor irritations.  It's a frigging battery hog.  I don't get a full day out of the battery.  I don't like that.  The problem may be that because we live in Leander we may be roaming without knowing it.  Nextel does not roam. You either have service or you don't.  Most of the time we didn't have it.   On the Sprint Network we roam.  We have serivce.    The screen does seem brighter than the 8350i.  I had trouble moving all my email addresses over to the new blackberry.  Somebody had my address on the Sprint … (0 comments)

Showcasing Your Cedar Park, Texas Home - #2 in the Series - Curb Appeal - 08/15/09 06:56 PM
Is your Cedar Park, Texas  Home ready to sell?  You have only one chance to make a first impression and first impressions are lasting impressions.  You do not need to put a lot of money into your home.  When I show homes I am often surprised at some of the innovative ideas I have seen that increase the appeal of a home.  Many of these ideas require little more than elbow grease.

When a potential buyer comes to your Cedar Park home,  the exterior is the first image and the last image the buyer will take with them of your … (2 comments)

KnowYourMojo.com - 08/15/09 01:11 PM
Yahoo has a new website called knowyourmojo.com that is supposed to scientifically decide what kind of twitter profle you actually are based on your tweets.  Hmmm wonder what they are going to do with this information.  Anyway it seemed to be fun and harmless.  I tried it and I'm a matchmaker based on my tweets.  I don't know where they came up with that.  It might make me more cautious on my twitter posts.  tell me what you think of it.

Blackberry 8330 from Sprint the Phone for me - 08/14/09 01:32 PM
I previously wrote a post on the Blackberry 8350i  and the problems I was having.
http://activerain.com/blogsview/1186862/nextel-rim-blackberry-8350i-not-the-phone-for-me-
I politely complained and complained to Sprint / Nextel about my problems with the phone.  A realtor cannot live with continual dropped calls.  Just as I was about to switch to a NEW carrier,  some dear person at Sprint /Nextel connected me with the "retention" department.   So earlier this they agreed for a "price" to send me two new phones on the Sprint Network.  I got a red Blackberry 8330, of course in KW colors, and my husband took the titanium 8330.   It has taken … (1 comments)

Taco Real - Cedar Park, Texas - 08/10/09 08:36 PM
Taco Real  in Cedar Park, Texas opened a few months ago in the old Willie-O's Hamburger place in 1890 Ranch along Rt. 1431.  It is close to the Cinemark Theatre if you want to grab something before catching a flick.  They post their menu in the front window so you can get a feel for what you will pay inside. The menu is appealing and they carry a full menu including breakfast in the morning.  Taco Real opens at 7:00 AM.  Inside the menu is above where you place your order which is what you seek here.  What did we think … (1 comments)

IFIXIT.COM and my Ipod Video - 08/10/09 04:10 PM
IFIXIT.COM and my Ipod Video.  One of my favorite gizmos is my Ipod Video.  I was an early adopter and bought myself a white one and my hubby the black one.  Mine is loaded with Michael Buble and Lost episodes and is lovingly encased in a Vaja Case.  But darn it,  the thing quit holding a charge so I knew it was time for the dreaded battery change.  So I googled it and found this really neat website  I thought I would share with everyone.  Ifixit.com  IBelow is a snapshot of the website.
They sell lots of MAC parts and … (2 comments)

Animoto.com on Active Rain - How to do it - 08/08/09 03:55 PM
Animoto.com on Active Rain - How to do it.  Well, I've been a real fan of animoto.com for almost 2 years and have an all-access pass which costs $30.00 per year.  They do have some more expensive options now for Realtors but I'm not biting.   I don't care if the video says animoto.com at the end.  My information is embedded in the video.  But I still love Animoto.com. They make creating a video super easy. All you do is select your pictures, drop in your graphics, choose some music and their engine does the rest. For the last couple of days … (6 comments)

Nextel RIM Blackberry 8350i - Not the phone for me! - 08/07/09 09:39 PM
Nextel RIM Blackberry 8350i - Not the phone for me.  I am a longtime Blackberry user.  We had the 6510 and then the 7520 Blackberries and waited anxiously for a new Nextel Blackberry because I thought I couldn't live without push-to-talk.  I waited 4 years.    Since our move to Texas 2 years ago we have had some problems with coverage in our area but after checking the Sprint / Nextel coverage maps on their website we thougth we were making the right decision to go with the 8350i because the coverage map showed that Nextel had a stronger signal than … (3 comments)

Gracy Title is opening a new office in Cedar Park Texas - 08/07/09 05:31 PM
Gracy Title is opening a new office in Cedar Park, Texas.  I've been blogging about local businesses and I thougth I would get off of restaurants and on to something different.  Our new office is now open in Cedar Park  and right now we have Gracy Title using one of our offices temporarily at our location in 1890 Ranch Shopping Center in Cedar Park.  They will be opening in there new permanent office just 1 door down from ours.
Why am I blogging about them.  Well,  when I have closings here in Texas I want to make sure that things … (2 comments)

Smokey Mo's BBQ - Cedar Park, Texas - 08/05/09 08:28 PM
Smokey Mo's BBQ has 5 locations in the Austin Area.  This one is the newest and by far the best one they now have open.  It is located at 1550 Cypress Creek Road, #101 in Cedar Park, Texas across from Austin Community College.  We've tried two of their other locations, the one in Liberty Hill and the one at the corner of Rt 183 and 1431.  This one is a little out of the way for us but is now our favorite one to chow down.  Smokey Mo's has found their niche as far as BBQ is concerned.  You mosey into the store and stand in … (5 comments)

Rules for Living in Austin - (Humorous) - 08/03/09 10:52 PM
RULES FOR LIVING IN AUSTIN
I found this on the internet a couple of years ago before we moved to Austin.  It is not my content but I thought it was worth sharing.
•1.      First you must understand that Austin is not Texas, but Austin is in the heart of Texas. The rest of Texas is defined by two zones-the vaguely scary, inbred country regions, and the extremely scary, urban, conservative mega-cities. In Austin, we respect both zones (they are, after all, in the great state of Texas), but we really don't have much in common with them.
You may hear … (3 comments)

Why move to Texas - Beautiful Sunsets and more - 08/03/09 08:52 PM
We moved to Texas almost 2 years ago and I am still often asked why?  There were lots of reasons!  First of all there are 4 seasons in Texas and they are Summer, Feels like Summer, Almost Summer and Christmas.  it never really gets cold here.  The weather around the Austin area is hot in the summer.  We've had the hottest July on record this year.  I haven't noticed the humidity.  We live on the edge of Texas Hill Country so there are lots of things to do.  I'm only 3 hours from the beach.  I can visit a winery within a half … (5 comments)

Vumber - Virtual Phone Number -if you work in more than one location - 08/03/09 07:06 PM
Vumber - Virtual Phone Number - if you work in more than one location. Two years ago we moved from Illinois to Texas and for a long time both my husband and I carried around 2 cell phones which meant 2 chargers, 2 phone numbers and lots of head aches.  It got old after awhile.  I'm here to tell you it didn't have to be that way.   There is a service available at vumber.com that allows you to have disposable as well as virtual phone numbers.  So if you need a number from Southern California you can get one from there … (0 comments)

Southern's Pizza and Sports Pub - Leander, Texas - 08/03/09 05:42 PM
Southern's Pizza and Sports Pub - Leander, Texas is located at the corner of Crystal Falls Parkway and Route 183 in the same strip mall as the new Starbucks but at the other end of the buiding.  We went in here on a lark because there aren't a lot of pizza restaurants in Leander.  We do have the chain pizza stores but very few family-owned ones.  This one is new and we have ventured in on 3 occasions now.  It has become one of our favorite places to chow down.    The pizza is yummy and the dough is made fresh on-site daily.  They use high quality cheese … (1 comments)

I will never shop at Randalls again! - 08/02/09 01:22 AM
We were gone for a few days and I had a collection of daily newspapers to read.  I came across an article about the Randall's grocery store in Round Rock.  One of their customers, a 53-year old woman had her pursed snatched in the store in broad daylight.  A store employee gave chase in an attempt to catch the thief.  The store employee was a veteran, a red-blooded American male.  A hero!!!  Someone who served our country.  He did the right thing and what did Randall's do?  They fired him.  So what does that teach us?  Well for starters, if you … (7 comments)

Nothing Bundt Cakes - Cedar Park, Texas - 08/01/09 01:20 PM

Nothing Bundt Cakes - Cedar Park, Texas  is a cool little new business in the 1890 Ranch Shopping Center.  The name is just what it describes.  Aside from some baby gifts, t-shirts and little pastel  knick knacks, this store sells nothing but Bundt cakes.  I was lucky enough to get  free samples today and sampled the white chocolate cake that just about melted in my mouth.  The marquee reads that it is "So yummy, you'll wish it didn't have a hole."   The store has combined the wrmth of nostalgia with a fresh, modern approach.  The staff assured me that their … (1 comments)
