We have a new addition to our area….can you guess what it might be?? Let me give you a hint:
A place that everyone including your dog will enjoy!
Can you believe we finely have our own PARK!?!?!?! Yes, here in Denver, NC (Lake Norman). There are plenty of parks around Lake Norman but this is the very first for us. Oh, how I would have loved it to be here when my son was little.
The Grand Opening to Beatty’s Ford Park was Saturday, May 9, 2009. I didn’t go but I did get by there a few weeks ago to get some photos of the area.
The park is located at almost the end of Unity Church Road right next to the Beatty’s Ford landing.
The park will include a splash zone, playground, picnic area, volleyball, horseshoes, and walking trail.
What a nice setting for all the birthday parties to come!
A BIG THANK YOU to the Major Donors:
NC PARTF Grant, Duke Energy, Timkin Foundation, BFI/Allied Waste, Bob Hecht/Century 21, East Lincoln Goodfellows, Judy Browne Memorial Fund, Boat USA, & Wal-Mart.

McDonald’s Why are You Doing This? Open Letter to Mickey D’s…. are YOU Listening??
To Whom It May Concern:
I have noticed the changes at my local McDonald’s aka Mickey D’s, Golden Arches, American Success Story. The $1.00 menu is almost useless now since the last changes you have made. Where are the sandwiches and chicken nuggets? You just can’t make a meal on apples, yogurt, drinks, ice cream cones, pies, and fries.
Why would you tinker with a menu that has already been proven to work to your advantage? Is it because you heard the interview with Hardees’ CEO saying that they are doing well and they don’t see a need for a $1.00 menu??
Your first quarter earnings this year were up by 3.5%; sounds pretty good considering the industry as a whole, not to forget the economy. While this news was coming out you boasted your success do to your $1.00 menu.
Wonder what your second quarter will look like since most items taken off the $1.00 menu have seen a 27% or more increase? Better yet…How did you keep the media out of this one?
I am just an occasional customer now who is looking for answers.
P.S.: Just wanted to let you know that even though my all time favorite…. the yogurt parfait is still holding on to a space on the $1.00 menu you have decreased the size.
P.P.S.: I understand there are differences in stores throughout the system and most stores have a certain leeway on how to run their own store(s). The example here is my local McDonald’s in Denver, NC.

Back in March I blogged about the 2nd Annual Ride for Sally's Y. The event was held this weekend and I am happy to report it was a HUGE success!! There were over 220 participants and 30+ volunteers at the event. The weather was perfect for such an event and the riders/walkers had a wonderful time, and I guess you're wondering how I know this....well I have the surveys in hand!
Early on it was decided that the primary purpose for the event was to raise community awareness over monetary reasons.I am pleased to report it did both! Participants more than doubled from last years and the projected net is $7,000.
I am so proud of my friend Tina Duvall for being a huge participant in the planning of this event and keeping everyone straight with all the e-mails, checklists, and tying up the loose ends.
I know with out a doubt that the planning of the 3rd Annual Ride for Sally's Y is just around the corner and will be even better.
See you around Denver!
