canmore: Canmore Market Synopsis from Bob Aishford - 06/08/09 04:39 AM

Median price is deemed to be a more accurate market indicator than average price because of steep price fluctuations that sometime exist within market segments and thus can distort calculated averages.
Great opportunities are available for those who are ready to purchase.
Again we see some positive movement Just the number of sales is a very small positive sign. In total we had 15 for March of this year, 18 for April and 24 for May. Last year we had a total of 25 sales for the month of May. We are starting to see a … (1 comments)

canmore: The Graduate - 06/08/09 04:29 AM

When I noticed the "Big Head" statue in Canmore had been very tastefully decorated by the graduating class of Canmore Collegiate several thoughts went through my "head."
Where were you in 1967 when oft-remembered songs from the famed duo of Simon and Garfield emerged from the award winning movie The Graduate? Who can forget the guitar chords from such classics as Bridge over Troubled Water, The Boxer, Cecilia and of course Mrs Robinson!
Sounds of Silence
I can still remember the innocence of Ben Braddock (Dustin Hoffman) and Mrs Robinson (Anne Bancroft) as Ben said "Mrs. Robinson, you're trying … (2 comments)

February continues with New Year momentum
Over the past 3 months the number of sales each month has increased. Not large numbers by any means, but a total of 14 sales in February is better than 10 in January.
We see a large increase in the median sale price in both the single family sales data and the … (1 comments)

canmore: LET'S MOVE FORWARD - 03/16/09 04:06 AM

Now that we are well into the 2009 year, there really should not be any surprises. What I mean is the economy is what it is, "markets" are what they are and it's up to all of us to move forward.
You will see from my March Market Update Chart that the number of sales this past month in Canmore is up for the third consecutive month. This is good. You will also notice that our banking system has lowered their prime lending rate by ½% earlier this week - with the new prime being 2.5. This in turn means lower mortgage … (1 comments)

canmore: Expect More Out Of Life In Canmore - 06/20/08 03:27 AM
As I put together the final pieces for this month's newsletter, I do so with a heavy and saddened heart. I have just returned from the funeral of an acquaintance, business and a former Canmore Rotarian, Bob Schott. Bob passed away last week at the young age of 56. Cancer took another victim. Bob was the co-founder of the Rocky Mountain Outlook newspaper.
Walking back to my office I chatted with other people in attendance at Bob's memorial service. While we agreed that 56 was such a young age to pass away, we also agreed that life is exactly what you make … (1 comments)

canmore: Canmore is smartest town in Alberta: StatsCan - 05/13/08 09:04 AM
Here is a little article I found in the local paper.

By Justin Brisbane Canmore Leader
If one were to associate university education with intelligence, then Canmore has
just earned a new moniker: the smartest town in Alberta.
Statistics Canada released its data from the 2006 census and revealed that
Canmore has more university graduates per capita than any other part of Alberta.
According to the census data, 30 per cent of Canmore residents have a
university degree, which is well above the provincial average. Only 13 per cent of
Albertans have university degrees
More women in Canmore have university … (1 comments)

canmore: Canmore Market Synopsis from Bob Aishford - 05/13/08 08:55 AM

This past month saw the median single family house prices almost remain the same as March, but
down over 8% from the same time last year. Non single family house prices have slipped a little
since last year and down 5.5% from last month. The number of sales in each category has
remained almost the same as last year, but down from 2007.
As I have said in past newsletters, Canmore real estate will continue to be a good investment. We
are only experiencing a slight adjustment, something we have not seen over the past several
years. If you are … (1 comments)

canmore: Inpirational Eagle Story - 04/18/08 08:57 AM
Eagle Story Freedom and Jeff
Freedom and I have been together 10 years this summer. She came in as a baby in 1998 with two broken wings. Her left wing doesn't open all the way even after surgery, it was broken in 4 places. She's my baby.  When Freedom came in she could not stand. She was emaciated and covered in lice. We made the decision to give her a chance at life, so I took her to the vets office. From then on, I was always around her. We had her in a huge dog carrier with the top off, and … (1 comments)

canmore: Canmore Market Synopsis From Bob Aishford - 03/19/08 06:01 AM
The data above shows a very interesting past month for real estate sales in Canmore. Actually this is the first time I can remember where we see negative percentages all over the chart.
While activity is picking up this past week, as a whole the month of February had a total of 31 fewer sales than the same month a year ago. Single family sales are down from 11 sales to 5 and non single family dropped dramatically from 40 sales a year ago to just 15 this February.
In the single family market we also see that the higher priced homes were … (1 comments)
